I’m glad I found this discussion. Folks, I live at 3,000’ in the mountains of California. My challenges as a homeowner are related to extreme energy costs. We currently pay 37 cents per KWH for electricity. We installed solar and intend to install more. A smart electric panel is also in our future.Our big need is home battery storage. My thought for minimum home battery storage is that we need 10 kWh for the home, 10 for each occupied room, 20 for extreme weather, overnight heating and cooling (highs over 100, lows below freezing), and 10 per EV. For me, a 50 kWh home storage battery would take me off grid. Given that Pacific Gas and Electricity has the highest electricity costs in the lower 48, I intend to give the finger to PG&E execs by going off grid. We need a $10,000, 50 KWH battery!
