    My CR 2020 had this problem several times. The cause was these two transitors becoming so hot that they caused cold soldering connections again and again. Moving them away to the metal back plate of the receiver (serving as a heat sink) fixed the problem permanently.

      Hi, thanks for watching and writing. Installing the new LED's are pretty easy. Rebuilding the various boards isn't too bad, just take your time. Lots of pictures, videos, and notes will help you later on when re-installing everything. Also, test the unit after each board so you know if you mess up something. If you do 2 or 3 boards then test, finding the problems is a lot harder. Hope this helps.

    I have the record pi and the app is excellent for auto timed shut down especially if you need to do it overnight. Took some tries to figure it out since it's a generic home IOT Chinese app. It's hit or miss on fixing warp records. Newer records appear to be fixable but older records that are thicker may or may not. I tried fixing a CCR 1969 Green River pressing with a edge warp. Baked it originally for 2-1/2 hours at 125 - no change. Baked it for 6 hours at 125 still skips the needle. Baked again for 6 hours at a higher temp of 135 and slight fix but needle still registers the bump. I do an ultrasonic clean before I put the warp record into the PI.

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 Місяць тому

      Thank you for writing in. It's been hit and miss for me too. I feel that if there was an outer clamping mechanism I think it would work better. The center clamping isn't enough to apply force to the outer edge. If you get a really hard to find record and this makes it at least playable, I guess that it is worth it. Good luck as you try to fix more records.

    Hi, late to the game, but I am a learner. I understand that one can feed a sine wave signal and adjust the quiescent current level to an ideal point as one watches the level of signal on an oscilloscope (to make sure biasing does not cause clipping/distortion, i.e., overdriven). Questions: (1) Where on the amp board and how does one feed the test signal (say a 1 KHz sine wave from a signal generator), and (2) Where does one connect the oscilloscope's probe(s?) to acquire the signal for the oscilloscope to display? Thanks!

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for writing and watching my video. I am trying to understand what you want to measure. Quiescent current is the amount of current the circuit is drawing while not doing anything, basically idle, if I remember correctly. This is what I was doing here for setting the bias and the offset to the mfg recommended settings. I feed the 1kz signal through the aux input which does go through the tone board and preamp but I set everything to neutral so there is no gains or losses. I guess I could look at a drawing to figure out where it feeds to the amplifier board if this is what you are asking. Let me know if you need some other info and I will try to help. Enjoy the hobby.

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 2 місяці тому

      Congrats on getting the R86 jukebox. Now I need to think some on this issue you are having. The loud squeal can be the amp or the turntable. I would, while the box is off, remove the phono input for the mech to the amp and then turn on to see what happens. You can hopefully split the issue in half and then work your way through. Those amps have a light light bulb on the input of the preamp and when they go bad they will make the box scream loud. There can be lots of other issues too but start there and let's see where it goes. Good luck.

    Dude, if your record is warped it is not in VG+ condition. If a record is warped like that,, it is either a freebie or a 1 dollar bin record that most people who are serious about record collecting would use for display in a frame on the wall. Also, If it is noisy to the point that it distracts from the listening pleasure (and cleaning it doesn't remedy it) and in addition it is warped, you were sold a record in poor condition, not NM, not even VG. I sell records all the time and that one would have gone in the trash bin if I were evaluating it.

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 6 місяців тому

      Hi, thanks for writing in. I did send it back but if you read the guide lines that Discogs has setup, a record with a slight warp, that does affect play is VG+. I didn't make the guide lines up, I was just stating what they are. I am like you, I don't sell warped records at all. Thanks again and I really appreciate everyone's point of view and to hear from you all. Very Good Plus (VG+) Vinyl Generally worth 50% of the Near Mint value. A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Defects should be more of a cosmetic nature, not affecting the actual playback as a whole. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK". The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. Spindle marks may be present. Picture sleeves and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, slightly turned-up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut corner. In general, if not for a couple of minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint.

    We had one alittle older, field was made out of Masonite. Players came in two different color plastics, you had to paint the teams you wanted. Then one manufacturer, probably Tudor sold the different teams painted and we sent away for those. Made up our rules (stop plays make adjustments [bend botton plastic "straps"] to make runners or defense turn the way we wanted), with the quarterbacks passing and running plays and kicking. Would hold the handle on the back of quarterbacks and kickers. Cut points on the little plastic "straps" on the bottom of runners to make them go faster. Got strips of felt to make new "footballs" with. All in all, we had our own NFL football league. Before video games............then came PONG!😆

    When is the lcd supposed to be lit up?

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 7 місяців тому

      Hi, the LED on the CCC is for your +8 volts and it should light up right away. There are other LED's down on the Mech Control board for scanning and home. They would light at different times. You have a notch on the back of your big gear spinning the carousal and it lights once per revolution to tell the mech board that that is Home. Let me know exactly which LED you are asking about and I will try my best to help out.

      I have not looked into that one. I order the Impulse box set from VMP but that has not come yet. I will check out your recommendation.

    Sellers are often pretty clueless when it comes to grading, or they just lie and hope the buyer will not do anything about it.

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 7 місяців тому

      Hi, there are a lot like that but I have come across some that are very spot on. It takes a lot of time to really look at a record to grade it properly. I sell on Discogs myself and try so hard to be correct on my assessments as being a collector first, I know how disappointing it is to receive a record that was not like you thought it would be. Thanks for writing in and enjoy some music today.

    I’m looking to buy my first Marantz Receiver Can you advise - Recommend 2-3 options I have a Living Room nothing crazy

      Hey there, thanks for writing in. Wow, that is a tough question as we all have different ears. But, my recommendations would be this; 2270 = can't go wrong with this one. 2238 is my second choice as this is a sweet sounding receiver. My last choice is a little pricey but the 2325 is a great unit, might be to big for your spot but these are sweet. Question...what speakers are you looking to use? This can also make a big difference is what you get. Hope this helps and let me know if you need more info.

      @@bfpsa64 WHAT ABOUT THE 2016B OR 2230 ? I found it for good prices those 2 ?

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 7 місяців тому

      @@DanRockTV I have never has a 2216B but have done a few 2230. The 230 is another great low power receiver with good low end warmth. Again, a lot depends on what speakers you run. I have mostly Klipsch speakers of various models and they are very efficient speakers that need very little power to drive.

    Hi, friend, 2024 here, looking a 6400 and 7020 receiver. Would like the opinion about the KR-x400 line. I am mostly Sansui and Kenwood vintages fan. Have a Model Nine G, a KR-4600, KR-8010, KR-7050, and some KA, KT and KX separates, many Sansui models also, including receivers,cassetes, AU, TU, SC, and so on. For me Kens are brilliant equipment and still undervalued. Sansuis totally hyped, and prices rising so much. Thanks for sharing!

      Hi, thanks for writing in. I have a KR-9400 playing now in my daily setup as it needed some time playing. I still have my KR-6400 also playing out in the shop. I like this series s they are easy to work on, lights are easy to change out. The only issue with the Kenwood's are those power packs. Hard to find them if they go bad. They are fairly low priced I feel due to the Darlington packs. Let me know if you get the KR-6400 you are looking at. Enjoy the hobby and thanks for tuning in.

    Because the lamps are incandescent they will draw decent current. Would I be wrong in thinking that having the lights not be on help lower the over saturation point of the transformer? I'm a newbie even at my old age. I guess I would be thinking less power draw for the lamps, more power for the AMPS :)

    • @bfpsa64
      @bfpsa64 8 місяців тому

      Hey there, thanks for watching and writing in. I don't feel the lamps draw very much from the transformers as they are only 6 volts or so if I remember correctly. Look at the lamp circuit to be sure before doing anything. If you need some more advise please let me know and I will get on the computer out in the shop and look at the schematic again. Enjoy the music.

    Great video, my dad gave me the one he brought my late grandpa directly from country of origin, which I know is common. It's in near mint condition as it was used in a conditioned basement without a lot of sunlight on it. My dad borrowed it back for a moment to hear it again but I now have it again. I know the caps are all very old and should likely be replaced, and my Dad said the unit worked just fine but I know for a fact he likely ignored and crackling while moving knobs while stating his everything is fine opinion. I have not plugged it in, I plan on waiting for the right room to have an use for it. But that being said... I can't wait to hear it and clean the pots, recap. and hear it again. Of course I'll be careful and turn it on using a variac and dim bulb set but it might just have a place in my stereo room as an LP preamp (maybe even modify that section to be better) and my grandpa's amp can live on.

      Hi, thanks for writing in and sharing your awesome story on your Sansui. When you get time at least clean the controls and work the power supply. This is where all the power sources come from so make those are correct at the minimum. Take your time and it will bring you lots of enjoyment for a long time.
