Nuptial flights are when Alates in a colony fly out to mate. Males die when they mate with a female, then the female finds a place to nest potentially founding a new ant colony.

Context: an annoying fly was buzzing around my house so I caught it, put it in the fridge -for 2 hours- then removed its wings and put it in the out world. Then the funnel ants hunted it down and dragged it into the nest alive.
