    • @p00piter
      @p00piter 2 місяці тому

      I wasn’t being condescending. I guess you could take it as a challenge tho. A positive one. I’m definitely not flexing. Sobriety is nothing to flex about. People that do have not gotten over their addictions. It still controls them. It controls their ego and they feel better than others for NOT doing something? Doesn’t really make sense. I’ve been sober for 7 years next month. Eventually you stop counting days, then weeks, then months. Idk if you’re going through a program, but right now you’re in the “pink bubble” where everything seems perfect and life feels great. You feel like you can accomplish the world. But don’t let your guard down. That will fade as you continue back into your normal reality. What I said there I meant as a to be continued statement. Keep doin what you’re doin bro. No hate man ❤️

    • @jamalsalemmusic
      @jamalsalemmusic 2 місяці тому

      @p00piter That's cool you're 7 years strong. I haven't decided how permanent this is, but for now it's the right choice for me. I can't add descriptions to UA-cam shorts; I personally experienced extreme withdrawal symptoms in that initial two-week period. Overcoming that gives confidence to overcome upcoming challenges. They pass. It's a personal choice. This video is a message for anybody seeking that change yet lacking example in their immediate social circle. I appreciate the warning; it's very wise. I'd also challenge the notion of "normal reality". Maybe that's a signal for someone to shift some aspect of "normal" to keep life fresh and not fall back into the old comfortable yet stagnating patterns, whether that's through a change of scenery, new social connections, new hobbies, new goals, etc. I appreciate the advice. Congrats on 7 years 🙏 That's a seriously inspiring effort. If I decide to continue and make it to 5 years, I will comment on this post and tag you. Life is so unpredictable though; the next breath isn't guaranteed, let alone our both being here in 5 years time. Take it as it comes. All the best, p00piter 🙏 Thanks for your wisdom and insight.

    Caption: I don't know. "Talent" is a tricky word. One wants to share their gifts, yet this can trigger envy and jealousy in others. Quite the conundrum! If you downplay your talents, the universe punishes you. But if you express them, the right people will hear you, yet the wrong people can feel threatened. How responsible are you for their emotions? This has been extremely challenging for me for a number of years. I don't wake up and think "I'm talented". I'm a person just like you. And if anything am painfully aware of my shortcomings and limitations, with a sense of low self-worth. That's why I develop those weaknesses into strengths. Throwing the "talent" word around implies zero effort on the individual's part. Before allowing envy and jealousy to shape your perception of someone; Consider asking yourself: "Am I willing to make the necessary sacrifices this person made in dedication and service of their talents?" If the answer is "yes", then what are you waiting for?! Get to work! If the answer is "no", then I recommend being grateful for the things in your life that "talented" people sacrifice. That's my two cents! Take or leave 🙏❤️‍🔥 I love you. #talent #artist #originalmusic #improvisation #drummerlife

    Idk where you’ve been but the standard masculinity tropes are not nearly as common as they used to be. Besides being masculine is already a diverse concept because different cultures have long since had different concepts of masculinity

    • @jamalsalemmusic
      @jamalsalemmusic 3 місяці тому

      @zerogoodcontent7293 That's interesting, thanks for sharing! I'm curious for the different concepts of masculinity from other cultures. I'm in Australia and my experience is there being one dominant form of masculinity. I didn't think of it as a big deal growing up but looking back I can definitely recognise an internal struggle of wanting to fit in, creating a sense of shame that I'd never be good enough, blah blah etc. So that knowledge would've been useful for my younger self 🙏❤️‍🔥 Thanks for your words.

    Beautiful. May I ask how can I get my phrasing like that?

    • @jamalsalemmusic
      @jamalsalemmusic 3 місяці тому

      Thank you very much! If you're interested I recommend booking in a lesson to unpack it all and identify what aspects would help you specifically and create a personalised plan of action, HOWEVER, in this comment space I'll point out that I'm feeling the drums much like a piece of clay or plasticine, and letting ideas flow out smoothly from the bodily feeling, rather than "thinking" of ideas and playing from the mind necessarily; I'm letting it flow naturally, almost therapeutically, the felt touch, and moulding the sound in-the-moment, developing and embellishing it. I can also suggest looking into "how to develop a melodic phrase". I use the "Happy Birthday" song as an example: Phrase 1: Simple melodic statement ("Happy Birthday to you") Phrase 2: Repeat phrase with slight melodic variation Phrase 3: Repeat the phrase but really develop it and take it somewhere new, climactic Phrase 4: Recap the original phrase, coming home, yet transformed I recommend really simple melodic phrases, repeating them, playing with their length (extending, shortening), and have a go starting the phrase at different points in the bar. Repetition is KEY. It establishes the phrase as an IDEA in the listener's mind, otherwise it risks coming across as an avalanche of noise with no discernible shapes or subtleties ("space" is important too). Thank you, I hope that helps! Feel free to ask any questions and reach out anytime. I may even film some lessons on this topic because phrasing is a lot of fun, creatively rewarding and would help a lot of musicians develop their playing to new levels of depth and expression. Thank you! 🙏❤️‍🔥
