    Nice video! I am a bit confused -- I have looked at several videos showing 400Amp Generac ATS installs... The confusion is this -- Most of what I see is that there are installs that SHOW 4 "Hots" coming into the ATS and taken up to the TOP of the Transfer Switch -- My confusion is WHY would there be 4 Hots coming from a Meter and not just 2 Hots if the Meter is supplied with 400/320 Continuous from the Transformer through the meter? Question -- Are FOUR Hots needed from the meter every time? (I am only concerned with SINGLE PHASE 400/320A 120/240V system here) Can you explain this for me?

    I flipped the switch and Generator kicked in after 10 seconds, (everything worked great) But after I turned the switch back on, Generator never shuts itself, I had to kill it manually. Any ideas?

    My inherited Generac stopped testing itself on Saturdays a few years ago. The maintenance guys (who I had change the oil each year) insisted it was OK. But, of course, when I turn off the main...Nothing happens! It starts manually, but does not transfer Question: if I start it manually, and then throw the main switch in the panel, should it switch to generator current?? My "current" situation IS: I have a brownout condition caused by water in the main conduit/meter. I had an electrician diagnose this yesterday. The fridge compressor makes a dying noise when starting (I've unplugged it) some overhead lights are brown, and like, TWO watts, while the one in the study is like an arc lamp!! The HVAC transformer got blown again, along with other things.

    Thanks for the video. Gave me just enough confidence to "throw the switch". Is the ONLY function of flipping the switch limited to just turning off the utility power? And once that is done the ATS takes over? The reason I ask is that. I am constantly getting ATS Communication Failure WARNING messages. Sometimes the warnings last a few minutes or sometimes a few hours before I get a "warning cleared" message. This will usually happen between 1 time and 5 times a day. My Kohler installer put in a new control board, but I continue to get the Warnings.... but NOT getting the "Cleared" messages anymore since the new board was installed. I did as you did in the video and everything worked. (Normally my gen would not automatically go on or off when there was an ATS Warning message showing. So now I am wondering if the ATS is actually working now with the new board and maybe the "warning" messages are somehow just "false alarms". So if the ONLY function of flipping the switch in the video is to turn off the utility power, then maybe my ATS is working regardless of still having an ATS COMMNICATION Warning.

    I hate triacs because they don't click like a relay. The best is hearing the clunk of a contactor --reminds me of a 155mm artillery shell loading into the breech just before I decimated a fishing village and a herd of water buffalo in the Mekong Delta. You failed to take the mystery out of transfer switches. There is no schematic, no wiring diagram, no load calculations for AWG selection, no overcurrent protection mentioned, no demonstration of a black out or brown out and the generator starting up, and no mention of a UPS for some circuits until the generator comes up to speed. Could you please show your system actually operating and put the microphone right up to that Schneider Electric big ass relay to prove the French aren't totally useless. We should be able to hear clunks and see the indications which Line is being used.

    Good morning, friend, install a power plant to a swich transfer series H 300 series to feed 57 houses and I would like to know how do I control the power input by means of a frequency or a wifi antenna. Taking into account that I will install a circuit in each house with contactors and relay to control. But I need to do it via frequency or wifi, since wiring is very expensive. If you can help me I appreciate it.

    • @MrTheHillfolk
      @MrTheHillfolk 2 роки тому

      @@docalexander2853 depends , they could have used any size switch. It could be a 50 amp switch or maybe a 100. There should be a model tag that has the particulars. Used stuff can range in price but it's usually worth at least 1/2-2/3 of the original cost

    hi , i was just wounding if the arrangements of the phases were right. is it suppose to be black red blue for low voltage. ? and phases in the ATS is arranged black blue red. i don't know if the color code differs from a state to state.I loved your video as a great intro to ATSs, however it would be great if you teach me something i don't know about the code arrangement. Thank you

    • @wessleyrutherford8224
      @wessleyrutherford8224 9 років тому

      Site phasing is always dictated by the incoming commercial phasing. "Normally" Black Red Blue for a A-B-C rotation, but if the commercial coming in is not in an A-B-C configuration, you make the generator phasing match the incoming phasing, by changing any two of the three phase leads location. Which can sometimes give you what you see on the video.

  • @RJCONTROL
    @RJCONTROL 11 років тому

    The transfer switch does exactly that... It "transfers" between utility power and generator power based on need. It can be rated as Service Entrance so that it can be the primary disconnect on the incoming utility service. The generator itself, should always have an output breaker on the unit and sized appropriately to the system's rating.

  • @ChapelHillElectric
    @ChapelHillElectric 11 років тому

    Does the ATS serve as a disconnect for the utility power to the building? Do you need another disconnect mounted for the generator? Is their one built in to the generator itself?

    • @kcook8119
      @kcook8119 2 роки тому

      The generator will have a breaker and utility will have a breaker to isolate power from the ATS either way.
