What’s with the camera. Just stopped watching
really cool! which camera did you use?
GoPro 12 with Max lens mod 2.0
You gave us a different perspective on this one. I like it a lot. Hopefully the added weight on the port leading edge didn’t throw you off too much.
How much do you weigh, i’m 85kg and i love wingfoiling in winter when the lake is freezing, i’m looking for a similar foil and am considering 950 or 850
I’m 86kg. The AFS Silk 850 is great in waves over thigh high. Anything smaller and I’m on the 1050.
good exercise for your cardio! I have the same foil , now I have to put in the time and effort and stop finding excuses, you give me some hope
It’s a great foil to learn flat water paddle ups on 🤙
Wow the foil makes surfng look boring🎉🎉🎉🎉
Please can you show us the setup to mount the camera from the tail of the board? Is it a type of suction mount? And what how do you connect it? A video of the setup would be pretty cool 🙏🤙
You can see details here: instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3OTgxMjY0Njc4MjgwNTgy?story_media_id=3106866925498107639&igsh=MXU5c2t1ZHlyc2k3dQ==
Loving these dock start videos. Can I ask about the platform you're jumping from? Is it DIY or did you purchase?
It’s a work platform ladder from Home Depot I believe. It’s not mine.
Amazing....
We also do a lot of Tow Foiling on a WakeSurf Rope (very short). Before Take off we need to body drag out to the side of the PWC or else we get caught in the jet wash turbulence
I’m using an Armstrong tow rope. I end up shortening it during the session as the rope kept getting caught in waves. Still working on tuning this setup.
How did you step up on the board, too bad you cuted this part.
You can see me do it at the 4:10 mark
Where are you launching?
Sandbanks, Ontario
I’m guessing this isn’t the most fun camera setup for you but it does yield a pretty terrific video for us. It’s just like we are riding along with you except we don’t get wet. Thanks for sharing.
Ya, I really feel the extra weight off the back of board. Throws everything off a little. I really like this angle too.
super pumping... but what shim with the 202...?
Blue with the 50cm fuse
Is the mast length not including the Armstrong adapter? Which Armstrong Kit are you on.?What was your progression to be able to Jump-Pump-Glide? Any idea of your Heart Rate during that session? Thanks for posting!
Mast length only. With Armstrong fuse probably around 75cm. I’m on APF 1880/202. Got this foil early this year and try to pump a few times a week. No idea on heart rate or stats. Don’t measure anything and don’t really care.
It’s really hard to have a foil that is easy to dockstart and pump and be fast enough to surf the bump 😢 maybe one day.
Hi mate hello from Australia. I’m sure you been asked this many times but can’t find an answer on your numerous brilliant videos. What setup and equipment do you use / recommend from self filming whilst on the foil. Many thanks Mick
In this video I use GoPro Max with the following mount in the end of the strut: gopro.com/en/ca/shop/mounts-accessories/magnetic-swivel-clip/ATCLP-001.html
Wow thanks for posting.great angle how do you have it mounted so that it swivels? Can you name a product or is it homemade.thanks in advance
It’s a GoPro Max. Camera is mounted using this: gopro.com/en/ca/shop/mounts-accessories/magnetic-swivel-clip/ATCLP-001.html
Always enjoying watching your video 👍🏄🏼♂️
Glad to hear it
I believe you have said that is a 4m dLab wing. What was the wind speed that day? Sounded like it got stronger as the session progressed. Asking because I’m finding my wing size selection is dropping as experience grows with my Dragonfly. Used my 4.5 m wing for the first time in about a year yesterday and felt overpowered. No pump starts every time.
It’s a 3.5m. Wind was spotty around 10-20 kts and increased through the session. 1 of the reasons I like riding this board so much is it allows me to ride a smaller foil & wing.
I just tried a 1 degree mast plate shim with my 1675 in some small bumps and it made a big difference for me. Much easier! Have yet to try in the flats. Shim in the rear.
I’ll have to give that a try
@@foilthegreats the 1675 had so much lift and steep takeoff angle when reaching takeoff speed that the increased board angle made it difficult to manage while paddling. Now the board stays more level, but it tends to nose dive a bit when maxing out speed (noticed testing with wing).
I’m using a 55cm mast and 50cm fuse. Really makes big foils pretty manageable. I just have sloppy paddle skills.
@@foilthegreats yeah! I’m using a 795 mast and 50 fuse. DWP 97L board that’s like 18” wide ha!
I know I need a bigger board but refuse to buy 1 🤣
3 questions: how many kgs are you? and roughly where on the GL's are you? also does the wind blow all summer?
I’m 85kg. Sandbanks, Ontario. We get some light wind in the summer but not consistently.
Thank you! Very helpful and concise.
switching legs ....... still work in progress
it looks like a teeth floss dance to me :)
Great video 👍🏄🏼♂️
Glad you enjoyed it
bumps are rather huge for lake conditions...
Well it is a Great Lake. Pumping day bumps are overhead.
What size wing do you ride in 10 knot conditions?
I use a AFS Silk 1050 with KT 7’ 100L and Unit 3.5m
How would the 850 be compared to the 1050 in these conditions with a slightly bigger wing?
If the waves are over waist high I would choose the 850.
Love to see it. Im quite grateful that you share your videos. Especially since you are on the great lakes. I’m hoping to get to lake superior this summer.
My pleasure!
My DW board arrives tomorrow. Dragonfly 121L. I still haven't decided what foil I'm going to run yet. I think it'll be AXIS Spitfire 1180.
The bigger the better to learn flat water paddle up.
@@foilthegreats I'm about 83kg. So, close to 40L over. The biggest board I've tried to paddle was a 6'6" 110L I borrowed from a friend. I couldn't stay up on it. This should make a big difference at 8'2" 121L. I mean, my surfing SUP is only 105L, but it's wide.
I’m 85kg and definitely feel a bigger board would be easier but not really willing to buy another. Using a huge foil like the 1880 helps get the board out of the water fast and the short mast and fuse helps too.
@@foilthegreats Sweet, I'm picking it up from the airport today and then bringing it home to put some XPEL PPF as rail tape. I haven't ordered the foil yet, but I do have a 700mm mast. My biggest foil is like 1300. Spitfire 1180 is 1550cm2, but high aspect, so it should be pretty efficient. We'll see, cause I normally wouldn't use a foil that big for winging. I don't even use the HPS980 (1300) I mentioned very much. I'm normally on a 1000, or 1100 at the biggest. So this new one better work for DW otherwise it won't get used. lol.
What is the trick to paddle in a straight line?
paddling.com/learn/j-stroke-for-sup
seem really intensive for the heart mine beating hard only watching 😝
It’s a workout for sure
Great video! What gear are you using and how much wind? I am on the fence about picking up a downwind board for winging light conditions but I usually go for a kite foil when wind is below 15 knots. If this video is light wind… looks fun!
AFS Silk 1050 with KT 7’ 100L and 3.5m unit. This is my light wind setup. This day was super gusty up and down. Perfect for this setup.
Hello from Germany , i testride a silk 1050 80 cm UHD with a Whitebird 6,6 (95 KG) only 1 hour ,and i was complet stoked from the setup. My question is , do you think i lose a lot from the feeling than i use the Cedrus wind evolution on the setup ? I want do it because i want ride the small Afs Silk and the bigger Cabrinha X Serie
I think it’s a good option if you need to ride other brands too. The AFS UHM mast is pretty amazing.
@@foilthegreats Thanks for your answer 🙂
That's a 100L Dragonfly right? I'm considering a 120L (121L?) for the same. But planning to run an Axis Art Pro 1201 with it.
Yes. 7’ 19” 100L. Great boards!
Southwick State park? Can't wait to get up to Ontario soon!
Sandbanks, Ontario
Thanks for sharing. I have the 1880/202 as well and find that it has so much lift. Are you shimming?
50F blue shim 60F red shim
Hello Marlon! I have the same board, and I noticed that you put the mast all the way forward. Why ? I ride mostly in the middle with my 840cm2 Sabfoil WR880 . Thanks !
I have the back of mast plate at 10. It’s just where I feel most comfortable on this setup. I also use a 1 degree mast shim fat part in front.
Hmmm.... why such a large board?
It’s a downwind foil board. I can use a smaller foil and wing than a traditional board.
Foil The Greats, This video is fantastic! I liked it a lot!
Glad you enjoyed it!
cool vid, as always and love to watch. What do you think about using a bigger, higher AR Foil to go first more upwind and than dw with more glide, your waves seem perfect for that?
I prefer surf foils over HA. I want to be able to turn super hard. If I wasn’t using a wing I’d consider using big HA foils.
Fantastic... so smooth. Thanks a million for sharing :)
My pleasure!
Is the Naish board the microchip or macrochip?
Microchip
Nice, your effort has been rewarded. What length mast were you on for the Paddle Ups?
APF 1880/202 50F/55M
Do you feel any flex?
Yes, little bit but I’m getting used to it.
Bravo It’s a Wonderful Life.
Tell me how this compares to the new armstrong ha 😅😅😅
I haven’t used new HA.
Hi! Was wondering if the new evolution wind fixed the ventilation issues? Had the original cedrus for winging mainly flat water and had severe ventilations issues above 17 knots . Change to the power carbon mast from axis and now it’s fine, but still looking for a mast with the ability to switch brands ….thanks
Yes, I’ve had no ventilation ever on the wind. It’s a great mast.
Nice video.. simple. Most wing vids aren't that exciting (mine especially lol) this flows though and as the snow falls outside my window, get's me pumped! most of our lakes are ice still. I've got a '24 KT DF2 on the way, same size.. hopefully arrives in about 2wks. such a sweet looking ride. Excited to make the switch from my stubby barge I've been riding. Is that a GoPro with the max mod? Great footage. I mess around with a 360 cam and a GP 11, but not with the max mod. I like the horizon leveling and you've got the skills to exhibit. Still working on that here. lol Rock on!
Nice! It’s a great board! I’m using the GoPro Max in this video.
Sounds windy. Wing a size too small or missing the Dragonfly?
Wind was super gusty up and down. Bigger wing or bigger board or bigger foil needed. This was my high wind winter setup.
Second session on my new Dragonfly went better than the first but still sketchy. Conditions were just about the same as you described, wind super gusty with almost no wind till 30 seconds later enough wind to blow you off the board. Was fun to get out on the lake here in Commufornia.
pure tail? Is that so the pump is better?
Silk 152
