I believe it's done on purpose. The whole idea is to dumb down the masses. A crime against humanity. I homeschool my children FOR FREE and they are miles ahead of those in the majority of schools. The school system is archaic. The teachers are not well trained. The schools for the most part are in a shocking condition. Over crowding. Teacher absentisim. Many thousands of children not in school because their parents can't afford the ridiculously expensive school uniforms and stationary. Thousands can't gain access to a school because they are full. It's actually wicked.

There are some easy fixes: 1. Pass a law making it obligatory that all government employees (where applicable), MPs included,must send their children to government schools i.e. no private schooling allowed for the children of government employees. This law must be in conjunction with a law forcing all government employees and their spouses,incl.children to use state owned hospitals i.e. no more visits to private owned hospitals. 2. On top of law 1, the children (where applicable) of all trade union leaders, including their Exco, must also attend state schools i.e. no private school education for their children. 3. Once these laws are passed any private school that admits the children of the above leaders (incl. gov employees) children will be guilty of transgressing the above and as such they forfeit their registration with the Department of Education and their board members will be criminally charged. 4. Force Private schools ( as private education has become a multi billion rand industry) to partner with lower income schools and areas. The whole argument of the rich paying the most taxes is no longer valid as our government has failed us re the taxes that have been collected vs the taxes that have been spent with the net result being that the rich are still better off whilst the working class have become more and more marginalised; look at the IEB pass rate vs the true pass rate for government schools as many disadvantaged learners were forced to end their schooling careers due to their socio economic circumstances. The disruption of school education in turn further fuels the vicious social ills that we see in our communities. Something drastic needs to be done to help our children and our less fortunate communities so let our government officials and employees set the example i.e.no more private schools( and no more private hospitals)for our elected officials and their employees. And yes the Education budget needs to be bolstered as even the Model C schools are struggling, in addition our township and rural schools need more resources. A better education for all results in a better society for SA.

In the 90s when i was at school we even got bread, it wasnt the best but it was free. Ballpoint pens were given to us when u started writing with pen. My parents paid nothing for us at governemt school and i managed to get into UCT Engineering School. Now, i pay for everything over and above school fees after paying lots of tax. Its crazy and every year the finance mister is proud to announce how many billions are allocated to education. Where is the money going,..
