Are you breaking the 180 degree rule here ? When switching from close up of typing (character is looking left to right) and medium shot from behind when the character is looking from (right to left).
omg its 2013
Best explanation
What a great tip, Thank you
Literally one of the best tutorials on how to start with Avid, HANDS DOWN! I cannot thank you enough!!
@@adriancline-bailey3301 Thank you.
Thank you. I needed this.
Thanks a lot for this video. I didn't know about this feature in Avid. Please keep making more videos. Your method of explaining things is so good.
What about full screen ratio? Like Pan n Scan/vhs type of screen
ur awesome
1:30 I open Color panel - and there is no window 'Color Correction'. What to do then?

I was also editing my keyboard and what happened? The whole app crashed... and not just once
thank you
Feeling very grateful for this series
Very nice, thank youuuu
Thank you very much for the great tutorials. It's a lot of fun learning from you.
Wow. Thankyou. The most understandable tutorial on starting up for a beginner.
@@taniadorrity1898 Thank you
What do I do if it says only cc effects can be applied to filter
I feel like this is the tutorial you should read to learn how to edit.
Many thanks
Hi Ian! Do you know the name for the process of putting the film back together after colour and sound have been completed? Eg placing the final sound mix into the Resolve timeline that has been coloured? And who usually does this step - is it the editor? Thanks!
THANK YOU!
Who else watching this in school🤔
When you were using P to trim the outcoming edit, you said you can use L for adding frames in real time and J to rewind them, but then when you were using ] to trim the incoming edit you used J to add time to the beginning. Could you explain the JKL keys a bit more? Thanks!
Ian's demo maps to more of a Premiere Pro model with Top and Tail added to the Q W keys for example. I tend to go with the Avid lasso technique to get into trim, starting with a roll selection, then click left or right on the trim monitors to switch over to a left or right ripple, then back to roll for an overlap edit, (maybe) and then I bail out via escape or by tapping the time-code bar. I have a demo that shows more of the lasso approach. Option lasso one cut within the Media Composer tracks, or Command lasso in Premiere for dynamic trimming. FYI! ua-cam.com/video/T7c1wZG_kZ0/v-deo.htmlsi=LgZf3Ms_V6BwXjEz
Thank you for your sharing
Why didn't u play it back? How are we going to know how it looks.
These videos are great! but i have a problem when it comes to zooming in/out on the timeline.. i can´t seem to find the bracket button on my mac keyboard. I tried googling but nothing seems to work.. do you know?
I accidentally deleted my MXF in 1 to 17 folders in Avid MediaFiles folder in which has given this error: disk access denied avid filename creating:1
Is Composer Settings now available on MC1st? I don't see it where you show it.
Composer settings options invisible?
Ok but where is the command to make a Cut at the playhead. Or where can I assign it too
Ian. Volume levels :-)))
why i cant move "Speech Mark" >?
I wonder, would it be possible to show us this process at full speed, no slowing down to explain, on a large-scale project with multiple weeks of dailies and a show or feature length deliverable? This feels SO, SO slow and inaccurate compared to what I can do with pancake timelines and ripple edits in Premiere, but I've heard that experienced Avid users can move quickly with in/out points and insert/overwrite edits. Feels impossible, given how fast I can move in Pr. Prove me wrong!
Thank you good sir!.. i used to render the whole clip footage in the sequence before editing it.. doing the whole process for every single clip :/
You have a talent for explaining.
I needed this video for a long time my friend. thanks a lot for this lesson!
No problem. Next part coming soon
thank you for this. just started to actually put in effort into learning avid after using premiere.
Thank you. More to follow
Thanks.
Thank you so much for these videos! As a Final Cut Pro X, to Premiere Pro to now AVID AE these videos have been so helpful. Thank you! :)
so slow, wish you would just cut to the point
Amazing tutorial, thanks Ian!
Thank you
I like this series
Thanks for this. Good piece of advice but maybe not the best example. My eye is tracking the movement of both characters. So the dentist’s continuity throws me. But again, I agree with the principle. The possible exceptions are fights, car crashes or other high velocity action. There you might even want to lose frames from the B side to intensify the action/impact.
As a real drag'n'drop kind a guy, embarking on a long format adventure, you deliver all the knowledge i need, and arguments, to toil my temper and develop a new style of editing. Thank you very much!
Thanks for the video. One suggestion: instead of pressing the U key to activate trim mode, you can just press P or the right bracket key to activate trim mode for an A or B side trim.
👏👏👏👏👏
More Avid tutorials would be terrific. You're a great teacher.
What type of hardware is required for media composer software?
