    Very inspiring…. I’m a brand new agent on the P&C side and I have been trying to decide either farmers or independent, since a farmers rep has been recruiting me. Since, watching this video, I’m definitely leaning towards the independent side now. But my question is now, if I’m brand new with no current carriers appointments, how do, or what is the best way to get started on the independent side that you would recommend?

      There are several ways you could do it, and only you can decide which is best for you. Starting as a captive agent can sometimes get you some support from a mentor/manager, and some base income to get going. The challenge comes when you want to switch to be independent. It's trough to walk away from a book of business - even if you're hungry for more carrier options for your customers. (And having just one company might severely limit your ability to succeed in the first place.) You might contact some independent agents in your area and ask if they are looking for a producer. If they will give you a reasonable commission split, and are willing to teach you about insurance and how to sell, etc, and give you a reasonable non-compete when you're done, that might be your sweet spot.

    I’ve just started focusing more on mortgage partners. For the longest time I only focused on lead gen outside of partnerships as I’m an independent agent in Florida so no shortage of personal lines leads haha

    Great advice! And ask "what's important to you" (clearly not that plainly since people don't understand insurance)... best advice my sales coach ever taught me.

    "Selling out of my own pocket" is a ditch that I fell into...of which I was unaware. It is a good tip not to do that. Even just as a reminder.

    When I first started with a State Farm agent, they told me the same thing. I love this advice. I always at very least try to get them to buy one step higher in the liability ladder, because you can never go wrong with better protecting your client.

      So few people - even agents sometimes - understand the importance of liability coverage and how it works. It's a real chance for agents to shine, and truly help customers.

      Angela, if you are an insurance agent appointed with Nationwide Insurance, you can get Sprinklr for free. Nationwide very kindly pays for it on your behalf. To do that, you should contact your local carrier rep. If you not appointed with them, you either need to do that, or can subscribe to it on Sprinklr's own page: www.sprinklr.com/. Hope that helps!
