Crash 4 is set BEFORE the post-Naughty Dog games, not separate from them

Crash Bandicoot Is More Michael Jackson Than Sonic the Hedgehog

Sure in terms of MJ, Sonic might've gotten his shoes and music allegedly actually composed by Brad Buxer anyway, but Crash actually puts The King of Pop's dance moves in motion! Also TK I guess. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back E3 1997 Trailer (Cortex Excerpt)

A brief capture of the Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back E3 1997 Trailer that actually shows us the comparatively simplistic, potentially non-mocap CGI model used for Cortex. "YOU CANNOT BEAT US!" Maybe someone could edit this and the two captures of the trailer in footage used for the Carlos Alazraqui/Tom Kenny comparison together to make a more "complete" version of this weird 360 screen...

I assume you can just put 30FPS into 59.940FPS without frame loss, right? As confirmed on Twitter, Carlos Alazraqui and Tom Kenny would interchange performing as mo-cap Crash Bandicoot at E3 1997. You can totally distinguish that the first clip is Carlos, like in the famous trailer for the game whilst the second clip is his Rocko's Modern Life buddy. x.com/carlosalazraqui/status/173390316907027...

Though Sonic w/ Tails can't be used in Boss Attack Zone (another sign of it being a Time Attack thing like how S2's Boss Attack Zone only had Sonic alone), you can use Amy w/ Tails in it. Presumably because Amy was a new addition long after this was scrapped and there wasn't anything in place to prevent this new unforeseen option from being played. Boss Attack Zone works with Amy and Mirror Mode, though it won't actually be mirrored in practice. Levels of the games probably have to manually be set for Mirror Mode, what with S3&K Competition accidentally not being mirrored in that mode at launch. It makes sense no one bothered to set it for this Zone scrapped presumably early on.

Knuckles' unique bosses and now-shortened pathways are also accounted for in Boss Attack Zone, elegantly beginning Angel Island Zone with the fork for either Sonic/Tails/Amy or Knuckles' routes. So using the RSDKv5 Dev Menu mod for Sonic Origins S3&K, there's apparently a cut Boss Attack Zone like S2 had? What thus seems to be Headcannon's take on the concept as opposed to Sonic Team's standardised Boss Rush for all games in Origins. I don't know how no one else noticed this outside of the Retro Engine modding server, maybe they assumed it was just that existing version. Like Egg Gaunt...

Ooh, which one was that?
I noticed a few of these, but ya, they really did do alot of work to mix old ideas into the new game, or improve them outright. Toys for bob did a great job, and I'd love to see them work on another, or get to that damn spyro 4 game they keep teasing then not doing.
I would genuinely bet a very large amount of money that the people that scream the loudest about how bad this game is are just bandwagoning off the hate and have probably never actually played the game for an extended period of time... or at all. I bought this game having no knowledge of all the "criticisms" it was getting from the rabid rose tinted fandom, and I thought it was easily the best Crash game by FAR. Many others that I know thought the exact same thing too, and it got amazing reviews/sales. You can imagine the immense whiplash I got when I randomly browsed the Crash subreddit and found that apparently I was in the minority according to them (which is obviously bullshit). The fandom is fucking trash and they're too blinded by nostalgia to see that this is the Crash sequel they've been wanting for years, going as far to say that the mediocre Wrath of Cortex was a far superior sequel (because nostalgia of course, not because the game was actually good). That's too bad for them I guess.
I am on the side of the people who dont like Crash 4... kinda. It is a double edged sword. The levels overall are great and they are fun to play. But if you want to 100% it, it get REAALY long, boring, repetetive and just not fun for most. What made the orignal Crash games good is, you finished them fast (~4-6 hours maybe) and a had a great time and gladly play it in 2 month again. I cant play a Crash game without 100%ing it but Crash 4 is such a chore, i dont ever want to do it again. Sure this is a me problem but i guess many have it. We feel bad finishing the game uncomplete but we also feel bad trying to complete it again.
@@Dragonfire2505 Yea I'm not really considering the full completion of the game as a reason why people have issues with it, as I can see the arguments to an extent, although I think calling the game bad because full 106% not being fun is not a fair overall assessment of the game but that's another thing entirely. My main gripes are people just mindlessly hating on it and saying things like how this game doesn't pay any homage to post ND when clearly it does, or how T4B didn't know enough about Crash to make a new game, when they clearly did. I think the game has its issues (the OG trilogy have their own issues despite people acting like they're perfect), I just find it pathetic that there's a very loud part of the fandom constantly ripping this game to shreds yet they seem to have barely any actual knowledge on the game itself, which might deter people from wanting to play this game thinking what they're saying is true.

I mean, I only post Crash/Sonic nerdery for one thing.
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like Caddicarus or B-Mask. I say "or" because there's many bits in this that genuinely confuse me.
Nah, I don't hear it.
The whole alternate timeline thing was in early statements and interviews, making it seem like that WAS the intent originally but then they maybe backtracked after they realised it wasn't as popular a move as they thought it would be. Paul Yan: "When we think about time in the context of all these different games, we do want to harken back to those three but other sequels, they did exist and we think about them as existing on alternate timelines that may or may not have some reflection in this adventure." One has to remember that following N Sane Trilogy, a LOT of fans vocally wanted a new game that was a return to roots and rebooted all the post-Naughty Dog era stuff....and then Nitro Fuelled came out which was a love letter to the whole franchise and brought back a lot of fans and nostalgia for that later era of the franchise. Given Crash 4 was being developed while Nitro Fuelled and its Grand Prix events were coming out, I could buy they intended to go for the reboot idea originally, being mostly ND based but having odd rewrites of the better parts of those games, but then tried to increasingly cover it up the more they realised dissing the post-ND games wasn't cool anymore.
Maybe they didn't want to straight up say it was a midquel and have fans going in thinking the ending was already predetermined? The wording also might be a slight bit weird when he said "alternate timelines that may or may not have some reflection in this adventure" when in possibly teasing those references, they mostly happen in the main timeline for this multiverse-themed game. The relative obscurity of the GDC presentation also makes me wonder the effectiveness of trying to pedal back to post-ND fans after the fact through it if that was the intent.
The tiptoe ability wasn’t pointless…it was a missed opportunity… The tiptoe should have been used for stealth levels where you had to sneak around invincible enemies or alternatively enemies with a very specific weak spot that meant having to find first
That actually was the plan originally but was another thing that with Wrath of Cortex didn't make the cut. There were to be more intelligent enemies, as well as obstacles such as the 'Close Circuit Cortex Crate' which would explode if Crash didn't sneak around it.
@@e-122psi3 thats so awesome! …really is just more to the “universal seriously fucked Travellers Tales over” pile isn’t it?
@@generalchaos6 Yeah, really, even just counting the stuff AFTER it was changed from 'Worlds' to 'Wrath of Cortex' it sounds like the game could have had some really cool ideas. There were also gonna be Elemental crates that changed the level layout and let Crash find secrets for example.
“I don’t need your help!”
It's About Time is the best Crash game since Crash Team Racing. Aside from the remasters/remakes of the ND games, of course. Toys For Bob did really well and I genuinely hope they make Crash 5. They deserve it, and any hate they get is silly and ridiculous.
I forget, what was ND again?
Naughty Dog.
Thenivision shit on the revival with that garbage Moba whatever-that-shit-was and Toys 4 Bob jumped ship entirely.
That was something TFB were also developing (from an early state) alongside Crash 4 and their upcoming Microsoft collab doesn't quite mean that they jumped ship.
Level design and easter eggs aren't enough. IAT story still ignores post-ND Crash Bandicoot games.
What more should they have done?
@@teejay5160 The story should fit.
@@yottadrive what does that mean? It's still a Warped follow up, what else has to be done?
@@teejay5160 I said "post-ND" instead of just "ND". I'm aware of the Warped follow-up but the preparation for future stories is missing and there are even some pointless things. Twinsanity doesn't have Alt Tawna, so IAT should show other Alt characters. IAT Cortex in the final ending should reveal his plans to create Crunch later, as TWoC is the first 6th gen Crash Bandicoot game (not the first post-ND Crash Bandicoot game tho).
@@yottadrive I meant because it takes place after Warped that some post-ND references are gonna be more limited. And they don't have to set up the other games at the end just to have gaps bridged, this story can just exist in between and those can just exist later.
Alt Tawna clinging to Crash and Coco soley because they remind her of people she knew is very creepy and sociopathic lol. Yet they want this character to be liked so badly. She truly is the captain marvel of Crasg bandicoot.
I think it's more they thought they'd appeal to fans of Tawna not by actually giving her proper spotlight....but by making a completely new character to replace her. It's not like a one off 'Evil Crash' counterpart thing like in Twinsanity, she's blatantly designed to be a main character over the original now. Basically the equivelent of 'You don't need her anymore, we made a BETTER one'. :P
@@e-122psi3 I wonder if it's more using her without rewriting her original character, as suggested by B-Mask?
@@teejay5160 In that case, I feel like they may as well have just made a new character.
She's rather mid at most, and rather boring at worst i think
I just wish 100%ing the game was like.. actually fun and not a tedious nightmare.. plus I think the graphics are a downgrade from the N.Sane trilogy
Is this Caddy?
I feel like that doesn't fit though. Why would Cortex and Uka Uka ever work with N. Tropy again in TWoC after everything that happened in Crash 4? Or why would N. Tropy settle for just being another minor henchman again? Also why would Dingodile come back as a villain well?
People change.
@@teejay5160 Okay, then explain why Tawna doesn't show up again.
I'd argue that, but then again the same game has Brio working for Cortex again despite blowing up his space station in the second game. And really everyone in Wrath of Cortex seems.....worn out. Done. It actually feels like a game that took place after WAY more humiliations and defeats than Warped. I could buy that Tropy's fallen from grace as badly as Cortex has, and Dingodile's likely failed to get his diner running and is stuck doing more villain jobs on the side to try and get it back up and running. Tawna? I dunno. Maybe she went off to do her own adventures.
@@samweaver9109 Why doesn't OG Tawna show up again in mainline after Crash 1? Why doesn't Crunch appear in XS, COTT DS or Twinsanity outside of a brief cameo? I've had friends in the past that I've long since communicated with and they didn't have an alternate universe of their own to get back to at that.
@@samweaver9109she’s just not around, not everything needs to be explained in great detail. It’s cartoon logic, characters can just come back whenever
Won't lie, I'd love to see a collection of post-ND games, something along the lines of Wrath of Cortex, one or two of the GBA games, Twinsanity, and Crash Bash in one package would be a solid seller I think.
Could be a cool compromise between not having to fully recreate the games in place of a Crash 5 but at least giving some slight improvements/fixes here and there, but I do wonder if after remaking those four games if going back to rereleases might annoy some fans?
