Apparently only like two dubbed episodes are out on hulu right now even though they've released six internationally on Disney+. Really weird.

Bro theirs two protagonists one is black but is a real person and another one is a Japanese woman and don’t say is not accurate to the our past history cause is a video game my guy and we are talking about assassins creed a lot of things in that game most likely won’t be realistic.

@@alexbytutorial It’s not about the fact they used a black man to represent feudal Japan. I find it more insulting that they used an actual historical figure instead of a random assassin that has a unique back story. Yes they used a female fictional character as the other protagonist. Yasuke could have been a badass historical figure that the player character could interact with. My hope is that they come up with a game based on Carthage during the time of Hannibal. I would love to see two fictional protagonists that are African warriors turned assassins. For one, that would make more sense. Two, they could blend in better with the surrounding population. Having a 6ft Black guy in Japan being an assassin is kinda odd. However, my guess is that it may not play like that.

My guy I think you need to look up what racism means. Plus there's a Japanese character you play as right there. Can you not see her cause she's a ninja? Plus The Japanese love Yasuke and he's been in their media for years. Hope you're this concerned when the next samurai game comes out and you play as a random white guy.

@@tankish1529 you got a point and your assumption is good because the game developers said he will be play as a heavy character and the girl is the one that will be doing the stealth part and also her combat is different but the random character part I understand it but if think about it does it really matter my boy can be can be Japanese and 6foot and still stand out plus your character having a skin with kunais and all these weapons on him will really stand out and the black people fill like is cool and if it was a KNOWN white man im telling you right now us black people won’t cared my point company will do certain things that might attract more people to their game even if it doesn’t make sense

play ghost of tsushima , the past 3-4 AC games were ass. the main character’s a kunoichi too, which would make more sense than a samurai anyway. hey she’s not black either, should make the experience much more bearable for you though you probably don’t enjoy women either. and oh yeah the preorder is $120, and ubisoft was just saying gamers should get used to not owning their games? a lot more to be upset about than a black person in your fantasy land

Okay but we’re playing a game about Japanese culture with a story deriving around Japan, so they choose the one character in Japanese history that has almost no correlation to Japanese culture other than that he was a RETAINER (not a samurai) for Oda Nobunaga before he died

Normally I wouldnt care but the fact his inclusion was NOT organic and more of the same virtue signaling bastardization that has infected all forms of media as of late, is what makes me have issue with the game. Like if it wasnt a trend to do this kind of shit I would cut them some slack, but its more of the same pandering shit.

The games literally pride themselves on the extensive historical details included in the games. Or at least they used to in 1-4. Never played after thoee

Like I keep hearing this argument that "he wasn't a samurai he was a retainer" and I'm just over here studying history like "yes that is a title and role given to high ranking samurai in a lords service" hideyoshi hashiba was a retainer to oda nobunaga ieyasu Tokugawa was a retainer to oda nobunaga and both of these are very famous SAMURAI. Yasuke was a retainer to...... oda nobunaga..... just like the other two

We can agree to disagree when it comes to dub vs sub. But when it comes to the 3 episode thing Frieren passes with flying colors even without watching how it originally aired. Crunchyroll split it up and honestly, that was for the best.

@@thirstynerds Yeah, can't even agree to disagree -- dubs are always worse. They have less time, less budget, more constraints, etc., and are not managed by the original producer -- at best the original producer has input in the casting, but are generally hands off on the production of the dub. Foreign films? always sub, else you're watching a different film altogether.

@@cah1-kr9eb Just like with anything there are good examples and bad examples. So yes there are good dubs and bad dubs, but to think they're all bad is just silly. You put subs over dubs because, at the end of the day, you can't understand them. You're not a native speaker so you wouldn't know what was good Japanese voice acting or bad Japanese voice acting. You bunch them all together because it's convenient. Also, no matter how you consume foreign media you're always going to lose context because you're not a native. Subs aren't perfect translations because many things don't translate or wouldn't make sense to us. So the translators have to do what they can to fill in the blanks. Whether you like it or not we disagree on this topic and that's fine. However you consume your media as long as you enjoy it that's all that matters. However, there's no reason to be a purist about.

​@@thirstynerds Yeah, I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to consuming art -- I'd prefer to see it in as close to how the original artists intended it. If I'm going to a gallery to see works of Monet, I'd prefer to see his works, not the works of other artists that were contracted to quickly re-imagine them. I don't mind reading the didactic label next to works in a gallery to better understand them, just like subs. Some didactic labels are better than others, sure, and it'll never be like I'm viewing the work in the context of the original artist if I'm not from that time and culture, but it's still better to experience it as they originally painted it.

I only problem I have with the Frieren dub is Frieren's voice. A lot of people like Frieren's mature sounding voice because she is old and (mostly) wise but for me, it works against it. There is nothing wrong with her dubbed voice but in my opinion, the dubbed voice doesn't match the character's appearance. Just my opinion though.
