DCS F-4E - Longer range boresight locks using a modified input lua.
After experiencing some frustrations with Jester since release, I borrowed some of the WSO cockpit's controls to use in the front seat. Disabling Jester presence is required to stop him from interfering, but I find that by using Voice Attack it is very similar to commanding Jester anyway.
I've taken the radar range knob, the radar display knob, radar elevation and power, and I'm using the standard bindings for the other WSO items like half and full action that are provided by the standard bindings.
As soon as Jester is able to handle a few more functions like boresight engagements, I'll be reverting. But for now, this has been a decent quality of life mod.
Thanks to tripod3 on the ED forums for the Cold War Assets mod. It's well worth checking out if you're into the era.

DCS F-4E Lofting GBU-12s

Very quickly put together this clip to demonstrate the usefulness of the loft delivery with laser guided weapons. I omitted the entry of the bombing computer data for Jester, but my parameters were a 5000ft, 560kn run in with a 30 degree pull up. While there is no way that I flew closely enough to the parameters to use dumb bombs in this case, it illustrates how forgiving LGBs are. I look forwa...

A great middle ground would be to allow the human front seater to interact with the gain withou...

Inspired by the legendary DCS aviator Don Rudi, I thought I'd put up a quick video on the autoland function of the F1EE. DCS Mirage F1EE - TACAN offsets

The F1EE is a bit different from the CE, and initially a bit less intuitive. The important parts to remember on the IDN for TACAN navigation are theta (for range), rho (for bearing) RNAV-N for TACAN station location and RNAV-VA for a destination offset from the TACAN station. I'd initially thought that TACAN offsets would make it easy to keep the INS updated by picking an offset and then settin...

Nice demo for how to set it up and the speed / configuration management. Do not ride it all the way to the deck…the engineers won’t thank you when they have to check the undercarriage. Since you are flying an ILS, you will take control at Decision Altitude…which you should check from the airfield plates. For DCS purposes I use threshold elevation plus 200ft. Get configured nice and early and aim for about 10 degrees AoA in the descent. Depending on your weight it will be between 140 and 165 kts. Check gear is down and locked. Then run your pre landing checks from the knee board. Monitor the descent all the way down. Scan your airspeed, AoA, ILS bars, heading and occasionally the engine and warning panel. Keep the identifier morse code going in your helmet. Somewhere on the approach ATC will tell you to check gear and clear to land. Check you gear is down and indicating. As you approach Decision Altitude look up, assess whether you are visual with the runway and in a position to land. Make your decision, then disengage the autopilot and fly the jet. It may be tempting to dive for the threshold. This would be wrong and will destabilise your approach. The ILS takes you to the Captains Bars, which are white lines painted in line with the runway about 1000 feet inset from the threshold. As you cross the threshold, smoothly reduce power and gently flare. If you flare properly you will touch down about one quarter to one third along the runway. This is normal. For the F1, smoothly fly the nosewheel to the ground and promptly deploy the chute. Start gentle braking at about 80 kts, maintaining the centreline. Don’t be surprised in a jet like the F1 if you have to exit at the end of the runway. Ditch the chute before turning off. Debrief complete

Thanks for this stuff. There’s not that much around on the EE, I suspect all the people who did tutes on the CE didn’t feel like repeating themselves and the differences are usually slight - other than the INS system of course. And right now the F1-EE is my favourite DCS module. For now. I’m holding off on learning the F-15E until Mudspike’s guide comes out, I still need to get my head around the Apache and in the meantime, the EE is a delight. Real flying (not FBW). It also has advanced enough radar and weapons to make it fun. It’s a beautiful plane. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved the look of the F-16 since the 1980s but the F1 just looks like a fighter jet. If you asked 10 boys to draw a fighter, 8 of them would draw something that looks like the F1 :D

True story. 1994 aboard Kitty Hawk. We had a Tomcat come in with dual hydraulics failure and was losing pressure and controllability He landed it on a 3 wire just as the last of the hydraulics pressure went to zero. They had to tow him out of the wires, wings still full spread and with a dolly under the tail hook. Had to crank open the canopy as well.

I know a guy in San Diego that is working on restoring a Tomcat that's been sitting for over ten years, but we never were able to open the canopy. What kinda tools were used to crank it open? I didn't even know that was possible.

@@murphnturph2664 now i aint no tomcat expert, but on these old A model F16's there used to be a square nut on the LHS below the canopy Hand crank that son of a gun for ages to get that damned canopy open Look for acces panels and lettering indicating such a crank apperatus thingymcgee - although i can imagine the latter being unbegun work when it comes to birds out in the open like that

Was this before WESTPAC 1994 or during it? I don't remember that one, though the camera feed we had in Central may have not been watching him after he landed. I did see some of the VF-51 crash before they cut the video though, and that crash told us we didn't have a direct feed...which the EEOW pitched a fit over & got fixed.

Is it the code w.a.n.k? 🤔 Seriously? Did the people at ICAO not reconsider the implications?
