    I love this so much, thank you for putting this out in the world. I am a later in life archer just picking things up and these are things that speak to me. As an over 40 childless woman trying to navigate the very family oriented culture of hunting and archery, whose husband doesn’t share this particular interest, bless him, I do feel isolated sometimes and like an imposter. This speaks to so many things in life. Hubby supports my passion whole heartedly so that is a major win. It is great to count all the blessings and know that there are others in the same sphere of thoughts and dreams.

    While the saying aim small, miss small is true, shooting dots can induce target panic as you try to hit a small circle. On the flip side, there are some people myself included who actually shoot better at 3D targets or even just targets with bigger circles on them. Why? It's because you have a larger area to let that pin float around in, and the pin will stay in the area the entire time. Trying to hit a 2-3" dot at 20 yards your pin is drifting in and out of the dot which can induce target panic and you'll want to punch the trigger as the pin drifts over it. On a 3D target you're shooting at a silhouette and while it does have defined borders, the overall area for your pin to float in is much larger, so you relax more. Even on a live animal while we all strive to make a perfect shot, deep down we know where the vitals are on the animal of pursuit and know that a less than perfect shot will still put it down.

    • @walderman55
      @walderman55 8 днів тому

      Oh yes yes and yes! I definitely agree with everything you just said. But something I learned as well with target panic when I first started Archery was kind of the lean into it more approach. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone. But I had two back to back seasons where I was locked off target and couldn't hit a big or small dot for the life of me. And at the time I didn't have words for it. But for me I kind of sat back and asked my self what was going on. And of course the quick answer was "I want to make a perfect shot" second I said "aiming so small and the pin covering up the dot is scary and frustrating." But once I settled my mind and got over the idea of not being able to see the dot I wanted it hit and actually getting happy when I can't see the dot and trusting my pin was where I wanted it was the moment I was able to truly work through my shot no matter what. Not that it made me Kyle Douglas or anything. But it was a simple reminder that I have what I need between my ear to fix my issues when it comes to mental lapses. Not that you asked for all of this. But I tend to personal work through issues and figure out the why rather then avoid said things that causes bad out comes. Especially if that same thing can also aid in my own personal growth.

      @@chads4556 Dude that's the truth I think for us all. So many possible points of contention. But personally I think it's dope you have one main thing you are working on. Because it's so easy to get lost in wanting to fix it all at once. But sounds to me you are on it. If I could be of encouragement, won't let the boogie man that is "target panic" get to you. So much of it is simply being able to focus on what you want to instead of being concerned about what distracts. Which then leads to being locked of. At least that's my working definition. Yep a higher d loop definitely lets me hold higher longer. I can feel more force going through the heel of the palm that feels like it scoops up under the riser shelf. Another thing that gives a similar effect is having the bottom cam hit a whisker later than the top cam. Basically the top cam hits but then that last bit before the bottom cam hits kind of forces the bottom of the bow out underneath itself, for a similar effect. This can change your nock travel though and you might need to fine tune the rest to get bullet holes back again after doing this.

      @@walderman55 I was shooting the Mathews DXT.. Absolutely loved everything about that bow..I guess it was the marketing that sucked me in on the VXR lol..I gave the DXT to a young man who wanted to get into bow hunting last year..I wanted to give him the opportunity that my hunting mentor/best friend of 40+ years gave me 30 some years ago..that man passed away Feb of 2024..I don't give up very easily and wasn't about to lose a bunch of money on the bow..good luck with your channel..I truly enjoy your content

      @@howardkuhn2793 dude I have a DXT as well. I love hearing that about you passing on the love and opportunity of hunting with a young man like someone did for you. I'm sorry to hear about the passing. That's never easy. But also super dope that he lives through you by you Loving on others they way he loved on you. That's what this life thing is all about when it's all boiled down. Keep up the shooting and thanks for the encouragement. I wish I had more time for the channel but I'm glad it's been positive for someone. 💪🏾

      It's a foam mat kit off Amazon me and my buddy went in together to buy the foam and I cut it and out it all together.

But the hope is that I can flip them she's make it last a long time. I also used ratchet straps and rand scrap wood to compress. You will find the right tension to make it just right for you and your bow for easier arrow removal. www.amazon.com/dp/B074DSXG7G/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_NFB1BR434AS7HF0906ZY?linkCode=ml2&tag=williamssugge-20

    Hey, what material did you use to build the backstop? Also, what is the measurements?

    • @walderman55
      @walderman55 22 дні тому

      I honestly don't remember the measurements. But I'm in the process of fixing it back up. So when I do I'll get those measurements to you if I remember. And I used a tone of scrap wood from construction sights and a horse stall mat for the protection of the back.

    Whats that bottom target you have under the bag target. Interested in one

    • @walderman55
      @walderman55 Місяць тому

      It's actually cut up floor mats between some wood and a ratchet strap. It's actually what I just made in blue. It's nice because you can flip the pads and keep the target life for a long time.

    To counter act the sight issue.... don't. Archery is more about feel then aim if you can see the target no need to see the pin. "Just let the bow shoot itself" stop aiming! I have co-dominant eyes (sounds like you do too) that's a blessing once you stop worrying about the pin. As a tip on the title I'll say this, the title in my experience (work at mathews had it basically since release) I've found the bow likes a lot of rear weight. Took me months to figure this out but ever since I did it holds amazing. My title feels unbalanced when just holding it but at draw it's a ROCK! If the bow is new to you or you are new to a target rig just work out the feel maybe some boring ole blank bailing is in order. Enjoy the journey!
