A Deep Dive on Arcane's Fox
Let's explore who Mel Medarda is, her relationships, how she loves, how she fails. There is so much more to her and Arcane placed a lot of love in her expressions, her actions, and her regrets. I used to think her story in season 2 came out of nowhere, but after taking the time to understand it, I really appreciate that it was there.
If given the time to be understood, we'd see Mel as a character who can teach us how to live beyond our family's expectations or how to not even NEED to know who they are (her birth father who she doesn't know). Mel constantly struggles with loving herself, but her very powers (the fox -- traits that embody her power) are attuned to her sense of self. Her empathy IS what makes her strong. We also see how under her guidance and principles, the undercity's problems were not addressed.
