Ewan Hastie with Elchin Shirinov
Ewan Hastie plays a 3/4 left handed double bass made by Neal Heppleston. Ewan won BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022, being the first Scottish musician to win the award. In 2023, Ewan was also voted for the “Best Instrumentalist Award” in the Scottish Jazz Awards later that year. Whilst studying at the conservatoire he also received the Mark McKergow Prize for Jazz Improvisation twice in 2022 and again in 2023.
He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s jazz programme with, among others, a familiar figure on the Scottish jazz scene, bassist Mario Caribe. Starting with two years at the RCS Juniors and completing his full time studies as a Bachelor of Music degree finally being awarded an Honours First Class BA Music in Jazz.

Elchin Shirinov, a jazz pianist, composer and arranger, originally from Azerbaijan. Most recently he was included in All About Jazz's December 2022 poll of the top 200 favourite living pianists in the world.
From 2018 to Oct 2022 he was a member of the famous jazz double bassist Avishai Cohen's trio, during which time he recorded 3 albums as part of the trio and toured internationally at festivals and venues such as Blue Note New York jazz club, Ronnie Scott’s jazz club, Blue Note Tokyo jazz club, Tokyo Jazz festival, Jazz a Vienne, Jazz in Marciac, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Berlin Philharmonie concert hall, Paris Jazz festival.
