Yes all the engine covers are made up of aluminium. You can use any good steel polish available in market.

P2000 for prep stage for next layers is way over, you won't eliminate texture and edges, and paint won't stick properly. You will just get your hand tired :P P1500+ is basicly polishing... I use ~230 as prep for primer, 400-500 for solid colours, 600-800 for metallics, rarely 1000 if the grain is really fine.

I did one of these a couple of years ago. Mine was a *_Gedore No.62-10"_* - same size as that one. It's about 100 years old but they still sell the exact same one today. Definitely DON'T loose that screw since you'll not be getting another from your local hardware store!!

Kerosene is an oxidiser ie: a rust promoter. Just use evaporust. It's much safer that acid and it's reusable.

What are you doing with the hydrochloric acid when you’re done with it? What do you do with all that kerosene?
Kerosene is reused, hydrochloric acid is drained.
You can save all time in this video by just soking anything covered in rust with distilled vinegar!
Distilled vinegar takes too long to remove rust. Sometimes a couple of days.
