I'm gonna call that your April O'Neil jacket and hope you see that as the compliment it's intended to be. If you haven't read anything by Charles Stross, I think you might enjoy him based on other stuff I can see on screen. one more closer to 500.
Good film. Definitely worth watching on the big screen rather than streaming.
Great review! I'm going to see it later today. I love spoilers because I like to anticipate what's coming. (At concerts, I'm the opposite, I want to hear the new songs and be surprised when I'm there). Anyway, it's endearing how young people think 61 year-olds aren't mobile. I'm 61 and just got done working out, including planks. You'll totally be FINE at 61, just take care of yourself, exercise, eat clean as possible, be happy, don't smoke, and don't do anything you really don't want to do -- that's the secret. ❤
All I have to say as the TV movie scared the crap out of me as a 15 year old in 1979.
I grew up with the films of Alfred Hitchcock - in particular, "North by Northwest." Back in 1979, when I first learned that James Mason was in this film, I thought, "Mr. Suave and Sinister is at it again." This is THE BEST made-for-TV film and I'm not even a "fan" of vampire films. "You'll enjoy Mr. Barlow - and he'll enjoy you" (James Mason as "Straker"). That line of well-delivered dialog still gives me a shudder. Ciao - W
Also, im a gay man, but I've been on the "yes mommy step on me" train with demi for like two decades xD
Subbed for your count, commenting for the algo, not sure if im gonna stay for the spoilers since I'm super hyped and might see it. But shout out to smaller channels<3
Salems Lot is the vampire movie that has it all. Its a great 70s production. Very campy yet, thrilling and fun. I watch it several times a year.
In terms of the body horror genre, this is going to be a classic that makes top 10 lists for years to come.
Caught the replay (I have a plugin that allows even faster than 2x speed on UA-cam.) My guess about Boyd saying "look at me" "you're so strong" could be something he learned in the military for when someone was seriously injured. I agree that something is off about Tillie....I thought that from day one. I don't think the woman in the Japanese kimono is Fatima...also it seems like she's trying to communicate with Elgin. I don't think there's any way Tabitha could have told anyone what really happened without getting put in the nuthouse. Maybe a family member close to her age but that's it. Jim intending to leave to find his wife by himself really pissed me off. Are you purposely trying to orphan your kids??? I felt better when Kevin went with him but it's still annoys me. I think Victor has so much information and no one is trying to befriend him except Ethan but he doesn't know what to ask. If Jade wasn't such a freak I think he could learn a lot from Victor. Tabitha was the closest one but she's not around anymore...for now. It seems like those who are relatively innocent/child-like have an easier time communicating/ seeing whatever these extra-dimensional beings are (not the monsters...everyone sees those.) Examples are Victor, Sara, Ethan, Elgin. I think Donna is getting tired and losing hope and is close to a breakdown unless she finds a greater purpose soon. I want to see Ellis step up more and be more like his Dad. Kevin I think is going to shift the attitude of the town from defense to offense. And I'm here for it!
What 's the plugin that you're using? i might need to make use of it with the size of my current workload..
Love it!
I'm hoping this doesn't let me down. The trailer seems pretty good. I love the original and the Rob Lowe one. The both have strengths and weaknesses. Fingers crossed
Seems like the episode was a bit rushed. If it was maybe 45 minutes they could have made it creepier/scarier and would have made it more enjoyable. #JusticeForMrsHart #MephistoConfirmed
I don't care about this show, but Great review good job!
Great job! A few questions. Who's Jennifer? If this kid was your magical demon child, could you get a refund? Where'd you get that shirt? Who's Lila? Which one is Sandra Oh?
Jennifer is played by Sasheer Zamata and Lilia is Patti Lupone. I don’t know if you get a refund but I would hope you would get a rain check for the next one and the shirt. I think it’s from Amazon. 😂
@@horrorwithnads I'll take it 🌞
God Bless your soul for watching this trash for us so we don't have to watch.
I had a similar experience with Cuckoo. If I had seen the trailer, I would have avoided it. From here on, I will not go in blind. Cuckoo taught me a valuable lesson. Also, when you recommend the original Speak No Evil, warn people about the nihilistic ending. It's a well-made movie, but I will never watch it again. I love the bleak ending of Carpenter's The Thing, but some grace note would have been appreciated. Speak No Evil--the original--had no glimmer of hope or meaning. My understanding is that the remake addresses this. I'll gladly wait until it streams. But I am curious to see what Blumhouse did with this. Eventually. Jim M.
Burn this in a fire!
How can a sex-ploitaion film effectively do battle with…sex-ploitation? How can actresses who radically conform to beauty standards (via plastic surgery) be integral exemplars for young women? Why would any integral actress participate in, and promote, a sex-ploitation/Roman Colloseum flick? Will this movie stop women of all ages, from the natural desire, of wanting to appear beautiful in public? Will a sexy girl running around in her underwear make viewers think differently about sexual assault?
Thank you, Nadia. Keep up the courageous reviewing.
There is no way that I am watching this series . But you are doing a great job Nadia
This episode was such trash.. I'd rather watch The TACOFYTE than this..
As Cult Classic Cage would say, "Are you good brother!?" XD
@@Daxinar TACOFYTE at least made me laugh.. This is just some Weird Boxed Wine Cat Lady FvCKERY taht I find deflating to watch..
Almost at 500! Lez go!
Come on the 1979 window scenes looks much better and more creep compared to the silly glowing eyes we see from this new remake and you said that you get it that the effects back in the 70's isn't like it is today so why does it look bad in this remake ua-cam.com/video/w1unHCE_Npw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/m9XJLJgJJuU/v-deo.html I think you need to go back and rewatch the original to get a fresher look back to it before you review this new remake. Also why couldn't the 2004 remake do it right either with its effect and creepy look and feel ua-cam.com/video/PSBYziJUjZ8/v-deo.html. The trouble with today's filmmaking isn't always come down to how the effects are made much better today from back then it's how you use it and how creative you are with it and filmmakers relay far too much on CGI than doing practical effect and being imaginative .
Thank you or the comment, I'll def take a look at hte links and I've rewatched it but its one of my favorite movies so I dont mind firing it up again :D
Overyhyped? Hell no! This is the type of movie that I wish we saw more of. Unfortunately, it'll most likely tank at the box office. Nevertheless, it's my favorite film of the year.
Salem's Lot did an excellent job of conveying the classic myth of the vampire rather than the romanticized versions we get today.
I wonder what they'll do with Susan Norton. King wrote her out of the novel just when the story needed her the most, while the 1979 TV adaptation simply forgot about her until the very last scene, thus wasting a really good character.
It's not all practical effects but still very good
If you watch the orginal Salms Lot M/S you will find the real villian of the story is Ben Jeep door🤣, he battled that thing as much as the vampires lol
no
Fantastic Editing!!
I went in knowing nothing, so it's not over hyped. Whoever is in charge of marketing is dropping the ball imo. I'm not mad about it, it's kinda how I went into see Late Night with the Devil, all I knew about that was it was set in the 70s and the basic premise. Anyway, this is a great movie imo and it really makes ya happy with what you have.
Was expecting a lot from this movie and it started reasonably enough but the ending was ridiculous
Some Stephen King movies were not properly adapted; some slow burns are often unnecessarily tedious. But Salem’s Lot is perfect for me. Like Bram Stoke’s Dracula novel, we know it’s a vampire story but it’s better when we pretend that we don’t, and we let the story simmer slowly, exploring their characters and their trivialities and allowing the horror element taking little by little the movie. This is one of the few vampire films that actually scares me a little.
Great Vampire movie & great review.
That freaking vampire boy floating in the window STILL creeps me out!!! lol
Yes, but it’s a good movie still
SPOILERS!!! 1. Nice yellow jacket. I see what you did there. 2. I saw it earlier today, at an early showing. Only a few people in the audience. I think I was the only one laughing throughout the film at the few funny parts. (And the end especially) I need to see it again in a full theater. 3. Demi Moores best film!!! 4. Randy Quaid plays the PERFECT sleazeball! 5. Margaret Qualley was phenomenal! 6. The most unbelievable moment, (besides the toplesss dancers on a new year's eve network show), was in the final scene when the face of elisabeth is on her Hollywood star, and she looks up, there's palm trees, and you can see all the stars in the sky. In a major city.
I'm so glad to hear you liked it!
I think Barlow has the best look of any TV or movie vampire. Genuinely scary. First seen Salem's Lot when I was 9 and it gave me nightmares. Barlow still pops up in the occasional nightmare decades alter. An iconic villain.
Don't miss the controversial sequel 1993's "The Sandlot"
I thought the 93 one was called Salem's Whack? 😂😂
I enjoyed this movie and I enjoyed this review
Ditto 👍
I'm going to read the book again before I watch the movie.
Better chemistry between the coven? I'm not sure we watched the same show. Actually, you asking why they took their shoes off, as well as getting several character names wrong suggests you might need to watch this show again. Apart from that, I find your review pretty well explained. I disagree with you on several points, but you at least explain WHY you don't enjoy something. I can also see how much you care about this stuff, which means WAY more than our tastes matching!
Thank you for the comment! <3
What I liked about this film is how it treats women as adults. At the moment a filthy rich Elizabeth chooses to take the substance you see her in her villa, rich, famous, beautiful at 50, unhappy as fuck. In the meanwhile a younger overweight anonymous woman is cleaning her house behind her. You see her throwing away everything she has while ignoring a woman right behind her that never had any of it. There are no innocents in this film. Great acting and very vulnerable part for Moore to play.
@@sandermalschaert2336 wtf? what is she supposed to do to the maid?
I won’t be forgetting this movie anytime soon. A bona fide horror movie-no cheap theatrics or crappy jumpscares, heck, it’s not even the gorefest people claim it to be, but a genuinely unsettling watch with an insanely good execution. The absurdist setting of the movie fits the cheesy (and very predictable) plot to a tee. Every element screams out ‘uncomfortable’ and it just progressively gets worse, and worse, and worse. The pacing and the overall setting reminds me of ‘Beau is Afraid’, but more exaggerated, which says a lot, considering that movie is already very absurdist. This just goes to show how great execution can make any horror movie, no matter the plot, go from a boring watch to something diabolical. Easy 9/10
loved the film. I agree it is a career best performance by Demi, but genre (especially horror) films do not fare well in Oscars. However, the performance by Dennis Quaid may get a supporting actor nod, the sound design may get an Oscar nod and the make-up should WIN an Oscar. Overall one of my favorite movies this year. As was Strange Darling btw!
What an banger of an intro!!!
Just saw it today. Was awesome. I think that the acting overshadowed the actual shock value of it.
Way better than Longlegs which was overhyped. Kept going crazier and crazier as it went along.
I really enjoyed the movie up until the last 20 minutes. However, I think Demi Moore’s deserves an academy award for her portrayal of Elizabeth Sparkle.
It is 100 percent overrated. And its ideas are as subtle and repetitive as a jackhammer.
You don't have any taste. If you think that this movie is overrated and not unique. Need a real horror fan
@@sadafraisa5632 point out where I said it wasn't unique, 'ya df the director herself said it was a comedy and not horror.
