Stihl Ms180 a second look
Переглядів 11814 днів тому
I wanted do another video on this little Stihl Ms180 saw! After having it for about 3 years and realizing just how much it gets used out of convenience. These little saws are great!
Good looking saw
Rock on landon!
I don't like those limiters
Happy Thanksgiving
Not having any luck with there website for parts , just a bunch of clothing, and that kinda stuff.
Nooo! Seriously? I just purchased one! Now I have to look again.
You better buy a bunch of those full wrap handle for those saws , I tried getting one for my 359 xpg and the dealership told me $200 if they can find one !!
I just went on and it says they are in stock. Google "Husqvarna 359 full wrap handle" keep scrolling down til you see the Wolfswinkel listing.

Just finished the video this morning before work. Again , loved the story that goes with this video. In my opinion, not a boring video at all. Looking forward to seeing the saw in some wood. Thanks for sharing, Stay safe and Happy thanksgiving .
Thank you much appreciated!!! Enjoy the Holiday!🙂
35 years + of the most genuine friend ever. Glad you're having fun bro! But, if you ever call a chain cute again, we gonna talk! 😂
Lmao!
What a story that waS ibet you get that oldsaw agoi g soon
lol! I got it running this morning! Thanks for watching!
Nice shape, im more of the 150 fan tho
I've never owned a 150 or even held one!
Hey there , Thanks for the shout out. Watched the first 13 minutes of the video this morning, off to work now. Love the story time. Amazing what kind of mischief kids can get into. Will continue watching the rest tonight after work. Thanks for sharing Stay safe
Absolutely! Thank you! And yes it's crazy to think back at all the things I got into as a kid... you have no idea! lol!
The swamp fort! That was the best
Yes it was! We had a blast as kids!
Do we need to build another?
lol! Yes on a trailer this time!
They are both types of sprockets. Rim sprocket and spur sprocket.
Yes they are both a type of sprocket. Thanks for watching!
It's Rim drive not Ring drive. How can this be taken seriously if you don't know the name of the thing that you are talking about?
lol! Ok
Great video, thanks
Thank you for watching!
Thatold390 chewed up the ash. I ha e astll ms260 amdnculloch 610 that will chew this up L 0
That 55 husky made some.noodles
Yeah it did! Not bad! Thanks for watching!
Your observation isnt exactly accurate because you feel clunks from "chain driving the sproket" however the actual clunk pattern in operate is "sproket driving the chain" so it's opposite side of chain drivers making contact with sprocket/ring. When you do chain pull the leading edge of chain is making all major contact, when in operation the rear of chain drive is what get pushed from sprocket /ring.
Exactly! I didn't get that detailed in my explanation, but the concept is the same. Great catch and great comment. I'll have to remember to be more detailed in my findings. Thank you for the comment! And thanks for watching! This is the kind of stuff I like to hear that others put the thought in to what's really happening!!! 🙂
From a professional use point of view it’s not that great, from a homeowner or farm use different story seeing as how they generally only use it a couple of times a year.
I take it you're a professional? What saw or saws do you use for production? I use what I have around the farm, all makes, models... as long as their running and cutting well. I do what I can to rebuild or fix whatever comes to me!
@ nothing wrong with that friend. For me the option for the saw, really depends on the tree, diameter, and density. For working as a climber taking bigger limbs my trim saw can’t. The echos are nice due to the large amount of power and not suffer the excess weight.
@ I have a couple small echo's! One rides on the front of my Atv for clearing the fence line, excellent, reliable little saw! Both are older models like 3400 or something I have to look. What's your big felling model?
@ in all honesty it f it’s a big and bad tree. The sthil 880 is it, but that doesn’t come out lot. It’s just eats the wood. lol
@ Nice! I've never run a real one, I build an 880 clone awhile back, it ran well I used to mill a huge log to fit on my bandmill. Although Im sure it's no match for a factory saw.
Love the noodles that come out of a saw when ripping blocks of firewood, great for fire starters. Thank you for putting out a video everyday. Nothing like watching Saws on the farm after a long day at work. Thanks for sharing Stay safe Dirk
It is!
So glad you're liking my videos! Thanks!
I have a 55 and new parts, winter project for the shop. Can't wait to see it performing like this. Cheers !
@j.chrisbeck7492 the other 55 I have doesn't run quite as well as my fathers. Awhile back I bought a pop-up piston for it. I'm debating ripping it down to do a full build, porting with the new pop-up! It should run well after that!!!
Runs pretty good! doesn’t run quite as good as my 391 but still quite good! Sounds nice too
Thanks!
If the saw came with spur drive switch to rim drive when it is time for replacement.
I agree, when they are new they are not bad and last awhile. By the time I get someone's beat up old saw they are pretty much shot so I go right for the ring drive! lol! Thanks for watching and the comment!
I like that you kept all the real world issues in the video. It makes it feel like I am learning with you in real time.
That's awesome! I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos. I'm trying to keep them as real as I can without boring people!
Hey there, I must say, for a “junk”saw she cuts and runs pretty darn good. Thanks for sharing Stay safe
Thank you! I say it's not too bad! I definitely learned a lot with that project! lol!
@ I bet it was a great learning experience.
@ruggedtimber1743 For sure! Keeps the mind busy!
Wow! That is one awesome saw! I am really enjoying your content.👍 Stay safe
Thanks! That is a cool old saw! A survivor!
Not to shabby 👍👍
Thanks!
Hey there Another great video as per usual. Fantastic explanation of the 2 different types of drives. I can definitely see why ring drives are your go too for your saws. Thanks for sharing Dirk
No problem! Appreciate the kind words! Thanks
Great video you answered something tjat ihad con̈cern about
@dwhallon21 Awesome! I'm glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Got to love the Mac saws. I have a 10-10 , however the clutch / chain brake cover is cracked. I need to find a new one so I can use it. Someone threw it out. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
They're out there! Even a non brake cover will fit, obviously you then don't have a brake.
@ i did not know that. I will have a look for, with and without. Thank you
How old is your that kit saw? That cylinder was nasty.
I built it about three years ago and used it a lot.
Thank you for sharing this. What a great explanation/ tutorial. I really appreciate it. Stay safe Dirk
No problem, again thank you for all the comments and questions, I'm glad you enjoy the vids! Much appreciated!
Side cover adjusters are the bees knees. I like you talking about being unsupervised and building forts. Ah yes, the good old days. Thanks for sharing
You bet! Sometimes my mind just goes, probably the ADD... Squirrel!
Hey there, Any chance you could do a video on the advantages of using a ring drive , as well as how to remove the H and L red caps on carb, and what advantages does this provide. I am like a sponge and love to learn new things. Love the honesty to the video, with the little mistakes/ hiccups. In my opinion, mistakes are experiences that teach you a lesson . Stay safe , Dirk
Sure I can do that! I'll put some stuff together for you!
@ that would be great. 👍 Thank you
Yes no experience at all where is the start button
lol! I got you buddy!
Great little saws. My first saw was a MS170. Light and nimble. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe
Yes they are! Thanks Dirk!
Sometimes you get lucky. Recently picked up a ms291 for $50 that was as just a bunch of filthy parts in a box. When I finally had a look at it weeks later, it was literally a complete saw. The piston was in perfect condition, and after wiping the saw clean, found the date code was from 2020. The only problem was that the flywheel pin had sheared off, thus wasn’t firing correctly. Put her back together with a spare flywheel I had, and bam. Almost a new saw.
That's the best! I love when things happen like that. You just happened to have an old flywheel kickin around and found a home for it! Love it!!! 😎
I got a 290 laying around
Get it running!
What is the stock bar and chain for this? I got one for free and it runs solid but the bar and chain are not right for it at all. 😢
I believe stock would be .325 pitch either 16" or 18" bar.
Looking forward to watching the full video. Keep them coming please 🙏. Dirk
Next will be cutting!
Hey there, Great video. Very informative. I like your honesty about the saw, I am thinking about purchasing one, since they are the fraction of the price . Thanks for sharing
I think they are worth it! I like to build stuff anyway. There is something about all new clean stuff, like building a puzzle! Each time you learn a new trick or something you didn't know before. As far as the quality it's really impressive in terms of replacement parts for an OEM saw, other than hard parts, ie: bearings, crank, cylinder and piston, I have no complaints. Let's say you buy a kit and a few of the OEM components mentioned, I'd say you would have a fairly solid saw for moderate use. But definitely don't sell the kit short in stock form... they do work.
That’s really awesome. I am going to look into this. I like playing around with different mechanical components, as I am a mechanic myself. Thanks for the information. Dirk
I think I said it in a video but, these kits are so clean you could literally build one in your kitchen!
Looks like going farther than you wanted worked in your favor. That thing cuts.
Thanks I can't complain at all!
At 1:16 holy crap that saw has some get up.
lol! Thanks! I'm still really happy with this saw! I get a big smile every time I start it up! Everything about it is just perfect for me!
I have only built STIHL saws. I think my next project is going to be a 359. I want to build out a Husky and get familiar with them. But full wrap-ability is a must.
Did you happen to see the videos I did on the 359 I ported? I'm really happy with how it turned out!
@ I didn’t but now I am definitely going to check it out.
@illnaturedsaws it was pretty much the first saw I used a timing wheel, I believe I went over all the numbers too. I also piped it and run a 28" bar, it pulls it pretty good
Husqvarna saws are a lot easier to work on than Stihl saws @@sawsonthefarm
Almost 6 minutes and no mumbling. Barn cat got your tongue? Nice job bro!
Thanks! Getting a little more comfortable!
My Grandpa has 1 of those saw
From everything I'm hearing about them they are pretty good!
Yeah @@sawsonthefarm
+1 for the 180. My go-to saw for around the house and maintaining trails (where I have to carry it for miles). I use my 362 for firewood.
Good deal! I have hiking trails as well, perfect tool for the job! Thanks for checking out my channel!
that pin stripe looks awsome
lol! It kinda grew on me!
Did you do the 5 gear nut thing . Us folks back in the day over filled them one quart .We put a 90 pipe fitting and pointed it up to over fill . I've got a 92 setting in my garage on jack stands that hasn't been on the road since 2008 . Its a 350 club cab custom paint done by a Dodge Dealer in 92 for their dealership TV commercial . Its got 130,000 miles on it and not a scratch in the bed . I put it in truck shows for many years and one first place many times . Its got a lot of add ons on it the dealership put on it . I've hop the motor up a bit and if I turn the pump up it will peg speedo meter back to zero but will smoke like a freight train along with smoke coming off the tires but I keep the pump turn down so it won't smoke . I treated it like a Cadillac and never worked it .
Yes 5 quarts of royal purple with a 25% mix of Lucas. I keep my pump set clean! I don't see the point in smoking everywhere you drive.
What's wrong with yours?
@@sawsonthefarm Nothing I put it on jack stands to keep the wait off the springs . I stop driving because I don't want to put anymore miles on it . I drive a second gen now with a 6 speed . I always say it for retirement money if I ever need to sell it .
Is that a 2-mix engine, or conventional? It's marked on the label on brake handle.
Yes two stroke mix. 40:1
@@sawsonthefarm I mean, is it a new version ms180, with stratified engine? If it is a stratified engine, it says on the break handle label "2-mix", and air intake manifold is oval, not a circle, with two air tunnels going into carburetor - the upper tunnel delivers air and fuel to the cylinder, the lower tunnel delivers only air. That means that the engine is "stratified". Husqvarna calls that "x-torq", Stihl calls this "2-mix".
@ oh, lol! No this is the older version I got it a little over 3 years ago new. Could have been at the dealer awhile.
@@sawsonthefarm I bought mine about 4 years ago and I expected to get a conventional engine. So I prepared an adjustable (L and H adjustable) carburetor in advance, because I was going to port the saw a little. But the saw I got is stratified and the replacement adjustable carburetor does not fit. But the saw runs great anyway. I only opened the muffler a bit.
@homopit42 I didn't even know that was available 4 years ago!
