From Halim station in Jakarta to the station used for transfers to central Bandung. We acheived a top speed of 348 Kilometers Per Hour or around 216 Miles Per Hour. The entire trip on-board Whoosh is only 30 minutes. The wait time and transfers in Jakarta, to the LRT and the feeder train in Bandung exceed the actual HSR journey time itself by quite a bit. This is the amazing high speed rail line, brand new & only open since late 2023. China's HSR High Speed Rail network is the largest in the world. And they have the fastest trains in the world now. Yes, the Chinese HSR trains are FASTER than those in Europe including both Germany/France & yes, faster than the much talked about Shinkansen Japanese bullet trains. Whoosh is FASTER! Indonesia literally leap-frogs ahead decades ahead of other countries with this transportation. High Speed Rail is better for the planet, better for people & the best alternative to both road transport and air travel. You get the high speed travel time, and the train is a much better ride than either the bus or plane. AWESOME WAY TO GO - Indonesia~! Whoosh YES!

    Comments about cost of train and profit: Guess what??? It just opened! And ridership is low without service yet to Surabaya. Once extended to the length of the line planned to Surabaya there will be a much larger market for riders. Also, that trip will be reduced from 8 hours down to 3 aboard the Whoosh. While people in North America can only dream about such fast trains, Indonesia has already made this dream a reality with the help of China. Best of luck and blessings~!

      Yes, it is amazing to see. China was still using steam locomotives 20 years ago in train service. But today China has the largest network of HSR High Speed Rail in the world and it continues to expand. Before Laos had no railway at all. But now Laos has a modern fast passenger train route connected with China and should be expanded to Thailand. But yes, one can actually take a train now the entire length of Laos. And just a few years ago such a trip was an impossible dream. Indonesia is doing well to develop it's passenger and freight train infrastructure. Both in Jakarta and on Java island but also to other parts of Indonesia as well. It's great for the people of Indonesia and for visitors and tourists as well, of course.

    I enjoyed your video very much. I am confused about one thing, the Greenberg's Lionel Price Guide classifies it as an NW2 Switcher although I thought all NW2's had three position e-units. Can you shed any light on this?

    • @LionelPostwarMPC
      @LionelPostwarMPC 11 місяців тому

      Hello and thanks for the comment! I enjoy your channel very much as well, thanks for your uploads! Lionel MPC made a number of the NW-2 switchers without 3-position E-units. another example is the 8111 DT&I orange switcher from the 1970s, which I also have and it has a manual reverse unit. Yes, that one is 3-position but controlled by a lever on top of the engine and doesn't cycle at all when power is cut to the track. One can change the direction to Forward-Neutral-Reverse but it's all done by hand, no E-unit at all in it. What's really interesting was the seller thought the E-unit was bad, ordered a new one for the Reading Yard King and put it in - guess what? He did order the correct E-unit for the engine but it's also a 2-Position E-unit as well. So he threw an extra into the box for me, but both of them are the MPC-era 2-position only E-units (bangs head on table) LOL Laugh Out Loud!

      Thanks for getting back to me Bob. I found out the difference between the SW-1 and the NW-2 really has more to do with the original prototype locomotives. The SW-1 prototype EMD motor had 600 horsepower while the NW-2 motor had 900 horsepower. Basically the models both look the same.

      Yes, it's running decent on the Lionel 3-rail O27 track - these trains don't really "like" the crossovers which are not made for the clockwork trains 🙂
