These puzzles appear in the Daily Curling Puzzle facebook group ( groups/dailycurlingpuzzle). Over 22,000 mad curlers are playing along, learning about curling strategy as they go. Over 300 past puzzles appear there.
Doug Wilson & Mickey Pendergast are now producing these videos, aimed at helping curlers at all levels learn about tactics. Mickey is a 2X Canadian Masters champion, 12X Tour champion, and 2X Alberta Men's Runner-Up, one game away from the Brier. Kevin Koe played for him when starting out in the Men's game. Doug Wilson learned to curl later in life and needs help.
They have recently co-authored 'What's Your Call?', an interactive book that distills out essential skipping principles using 50 real-life puzzles. View the puzzle, scan the QR code to watch the real-life situation unfold, then read along as Mickey explains to Doug why the pro skip played what they played. It's on Amazon where you are, or at www.WhatsYourCall.info

Bought your book before finding your channel. I love the book its given me and my kids a lot of entertainment. We use dimes to recreate the sheet and try to outplay eachother. PS they are 4 and 6
I love hearing the solution and thought process here
What an end!
just found your channel...amazing analysis!!
Would a draw to sneak one in and try to be a backer for R2 work here? They make a play on their yellows to clear out R2 and R3 and it might allow R2 to stay in the 4'? I just got your book off amazon and love learning the game this way. Thanks for the awesome discussions!
I’ve been Awaiting the, Any, return of Curling Strategies puzzles
spoilers on the preview :)
They were so focussed on rolling in but its so easy to set up the double that way. Even hitting the rock they did and rolling the other way/ even out would have been better.
thank you for putting the discussion to UA-cam! nice and convenient format for me
The shots she called were fine. But, she had to make them.
How about an angle tap-back of your own red to cozy up to the the yellow stone sitting t-line for Botcher's first. It's a nice, slow developing shot that leaves you with 3 red rocks in the rings and possibly angled for shot rock, or at least the spoiler to force a tie and take hammer into the extra end.
I was in the building for this game. I remember thinking Kevin got em but Brendan was going to hero shot his way out of it. Cause how often does Brendan miss twice in a row? But that's the beauty of curling! You can win in so many different ways and every game is totally different.
Why didn't Bottcher play the yellow onto yellow run-back on the first shot? Making the double probably shuts down the game. But even if he gets the same result (jamming) but with his red still in the 8 foot, then any Koe draw leaves freezes, taps and/or doubles, or at least the same run-back which is now red onto yellow for Bottcher's last shot.
