Dino Crisis's AMBITIOUS Gameboy Colour Port - Cancelled Horror Games Ep: 7 | SunderlandSpook
Hello, Ghosts and Ghouls!
Dino Crisis was a smash hit when it was released in 1999 on the PlayStation and cemented Capcom as one of the greatest creators of survival horror games. But with the rise of the handheld gaming market dominated by Nintendo, Capcom saw an untapped market that could bring an entire new set of eyes on their successful survival horror titles. So, Capcom decided to port their new survival horror darling, Dino Crisis, onto the Gameboy Colour. And this port wasn't going to be a scaled down version either. They aimed to bring the entire Dino Crisis experience into the palm of your hand.
In today's episode of Cancelled Horror Games, we will take a deep dive into the Gameboy Colour port of Dino Crisis and uncover just how ambitious this project was at the time.

I think the reason they didnt explore the other characters sins was because its still meant to be a found footage film. If all the characters were explained in detail then that would compromise the feeling of found footage.

I didn't like Scarlett very much but one thing that I really enjoyed in the movie was when Scarlett was making her back and forth to return the stone, she really hit those staute thingz like it was a game. It's the thing that we all wished for the main character to do, to fight back.

I love how he's explaining the movie incredibly well in a serious manner, but when "Disney" stuff happens he also calls it out. I always loved this movie and had no idea it had such direct inspiration from that book. This makes me even more confused as to why it seems so hated. Thanks for making me appreciate it even more.

Thanks to this video, I decided to look up more information about the nine circles of Hell and ended up learning about the City of Dis. Lovecraft’s “Despair” is one of my favorite poems, but there’s one line in it that I’ve never understood: “Once, I think I half remember, Ere the grey skies of November Quench'd my youth's aspiring ember, Liv'd there such a thing as bliss; Skies that now are dark were beaming, Bold and azure, splendid seeming Till I learn'd it all was dreaming - Deadly drowsiness of Dis.” I never knew what Dis was, because Googling it only brings up stuff about the Walt Disney Company, so I had no idea what the last line of that stanza was referring to... And, to be honest, I still don’t. Since you’re obviously much more familiar with Dante than I am, would you mind helping me figure out what “Deadly drowsiness of Dis” means in that context? I haven’t been able to find any analysis of that poem, and I couldn’t find any references to deadly drowsiness in the descriptions of the City of Dis I’ve read tonight, either.

Lovecraft wasn't really Christian in a country where millions were - perhaps his despair was from drowsing in the hell of being heretical in his writings to others compared to the majority he was around, that is one of the sins that is dealt with in the City of Dis after refreshing my memory. Thanks for the link to the poem, found something of his I've yet to read!

I remember reading somewhere about it being exposure therapy. I grew in a really bad house hold. Glass shattering used to immediately put me in a panic because i thought i was going to get hurt. Seeing horror movies with jump scares and glass breaking has honestly helped me pull away from that. Not entirely, but it has helped. I recommend the book, The Body Keeps the Score. I hope you're doing well. I wish i had fome across your videos sooner

Many Christians believe the "seven deadly sins" and the "circles of hell" are part of the bible. They are not. In fact, the seven deadly sins are a fiction created by a pope who, through creating the seven deadly sins, and incorporating them in the faith would allow this pope to increase his power in the faith through punishing people accused of one of the seven sins. So, in reality the secen deadly sins(which there are none) show how the Catholic church has for centuries, been able to " make it up as they wish" to increase the power of the church and those in control of it. Its literally one of the greatest examples of the fiction of faith that the reliogion uses(even to this day) to ensure they religion remains relevant no matter how much modern science and logic contradict the claims the Catholic and Christian faith make. ✌️

Isn't Dante's Inferno a part of Divine Comedy? Like there was a paradise part, a purgatory part and a hell one, or am I tripping? Edit: wait, so you do acknowledge that Inferno is a part of Divine Comedy? Why then do you list both as sources of inspiration for the movie? Did you just have no other example but really wanted to have a formal "list"? 😸

So really slow on the comment here but I went through several threads and I still people commenting so I'll throwing my two cents and a bit of expertise. I studied art and theology in college and by god's beard I am going to use it. The idea of sin has very much changed in the world, as even in the recent past two hundred years the names and nature of these sins have changed, one sin or a group sins that I think apply is the sin of sloth. Then called despair and apathy, this saint thomas aquinas said was the worst of all because of its seeming lack of danger and action. Back in the day desparing was seen as insult to god as you are leaving in the world he created and given life. Doing nothing in apathy yielded the same destain as both these sins were the two sides of the same coin. You are or would be insulting god by feeling this way. Geogre and Scarlette lamented, they grived but held on to the guilt of death's of loved ones. God may have already forgiven them, that the people around them don't blame them but they continued to feel shame and guilt, falling into spiritual apathy and affecting their lives.

Thanks for the synopsis. I've never watched the movie, and now I'm not sure I want to. Why do the Inferno if you're not going to overtly discuss every characters sins and if you're going to skip levels? I do like the idea of Hell as more mundane and claustrophobic, though.

You did a good job trying to tie this all together, but I think the film made too many mistakes along the way for this to really work. For one, they see the inscription over the gates of hell once they should already be on the fourth floor. Punishments aren't properly tied to the floors at times, and they film mistakenly assigns Benji's sin to Zeb for some strange reason. It's ambitious, but way too messy.

The ending is not a disney style cop out! The philosphers stone was always about purifying yourself, your soul, your bodies natural energy, to become better. I think if you have read some stuff about alchemy and how it was practiced this movie gets even better. Alot of it was done in metaphor. The stone was never something physical that would grant eternal life and change lead to gold(which I might add is represented when she wipes off the golden mirror and see's her reflection in it) they were metaphors for the change
