Did you get it fixed? Mine did the exact same thing two days ago. I've been driving it in 1st and 2nd gear only. I've already ordered the whole rebuild kit but now after watching this video it looks like im also gonna have to buy that planetary gear also
This is a verify common issue on this series of trans, We call that a 2 way clutch,, cuz it's broken,, Also if you press the o/d cancel Burton while it is in o/d and won't move,,,the coast clutch is applied every time that button is pressed and the vehicle would then drive forward,, due to coast clutch now driving the input shaft and makes up for the broken one way
@@ChristopherCatfisher there is two one way clutches in the transmission. Both of them can break,with different symptoms on each failure. If the overdrive sprag broke,the vehicle would not move forward in the overdrive position unless you pressed the overdrive cancel button or select manual 1 If the low one way clutch broke,,, You would not have any forward gears,,,only reverse

@@williamblanks8500 haha! Thanks for the response. I finished that one, however I pulled the trans up to the engine with the bolts and broke the pump, got a scrap exploder with a good transmission now.

Same thing happened to mine,front sprag failed. Did you tear it all the way down and look at the reverse drum? Mine had some scratches on it about where the center of the reverse band rides and the band was missing some friction material. The scratches were not circumferential but were horizontal to the drums center line. I don't know if this is common to this trans but it would be interesting to know if yours had the same issue.
Hey john, sorry for the late reply but no mine didn't have the same issue. everything else was in great condition except you could tell there was a heat issue on the inside of the reverse drum
Thanks for posting this video. You just saved me $2000. My Mustang did the same thing. After watching your vid, I decided to take my transmission out and check the sprag. Sure enough it was broken. I replaced the sprag and now the car shifts good as new!
Hey how you did this ?? I have. 2010 v6 Mustang . All of a sudden it stopped moving in Drive , reverse and 3rd gear . It only drives in low 1st and 2nd.
I did change the planetary with a used one. Before I tore down my trans I picked up a used trans at the local u-pull with the intention of rebuilding it before opening mine. When it came down to it I just used the planetary out of the salvage trans. You just have to look very close to make sure it's not scarred up or has a lip on the edge. I did put the superior shift kit in mine and it shifts smoother then the day I rolled out of the dealership
What parts did you have to replace along with the sprag ? (the entire planetary ?) Did you get a used one ? How would you know if a used one had the same problem ? Same problem here... Thanks
I had brass in the bottom of the pan
A bad separator gasket is another possibility for no reverse. My 2002 Ranger blew the gasket out in the reverse servo area. See Ford TSB 03-22-10

I just swapped my one way clutch and the truck still won’t move in D on in 1 and 2 I did the shift kit too

How do you remove the planet carrier from the drum, I have my transmission apart and about ready to put back together but cannot figure this out.

Where did you find the input sprag?? Having troubles finding parts.
it took some time to find but it has been so long I don't remember. I think I did a search for one way clutch and it came up
