    Sir, we use the exact same set up - M5 and the mighty Summaron 2.8.

    Do you use a battery adapter on the M5? I've seen others say that the modern replacement batteries lead to underexposure and they need to compensate by overexposing 1-2 stops with the meter. Have you experienced this? Thanks.

      Hi Mark, I had Sherry Krauter re-calibrate the meter for 1.5 volt when the M5 was in for CLA. I've heard good things about the adapter. though. Apple Dad has a video about his M5 and shows the adapter. According to him there is no problems with the adapter. The adapter is quite affordable.

      @@analogreasonings8753 Thanks mate. Did you have a chance to use it before it was calibrated? Curious if it was off before that. I've narrowed my choices down to M3 and M5, and like you, I'm leaning towards the M5 due to the light meter. I'm an expat living in New Zealand, so sending the camera in to Sherry Krauter will take a bit more effort. Unfortunately there aren't any Leica or M5 service experts here in NZ that I'm aware of. The other consideration is that I already own the Voigtlander M mount 40mm nokton f/1.4, which won't have frame lines on either camera. I hear the entire viewfinder of the M3 (outside the 50mm frame lines) is approximately 40mm. On the M5, the 40mm brings up the 50mm frame lines rather than the 35mm, so I'd have to approximate. Or, just buy another lens. Anyway, now I'm blabbering.

      @@MrCanibalferox It had a Mercury cell and functioned normal when I bought it, but I couldn't replace the battery years later so I had it calibrated, had I known about the battery adapter I would have gone that route.. You could go M3 and get the Voigtlander VC Meter II. Or just use a hand held. If you go with the M5 make sure the serial number is 134xxx or higher. By the way Sherry is the M5 Expert world wide.

      @@analogreasonings8753 Good to know re the serial number, thanks. Yes, I hope Sherry continues working on M5 for some time to come, as I would like to send to her mine if/when I find one. I have a handheld Sekonic light meter but would likely get the Voigtlander meter for the M3 - good point. Thanks again.

      @@analogreasonings8753 What is the reasoning behind the higher number? Is this for the voltage recalibration or some other reason?

    If you choose just one would it be M3 or M5 ?

    • @analogreasonings8753

      I'd have to pick the M5 for two reasons. 1. 35mm frame lines 2. built in meter, and a very accurate meter at that. But you can't go wrong with any leica M. Thanks.

    Hi Ken. I have changed the settings on my digital cameras to shoot more manual, single focus point, center weighted metering, jpegs with little processing, and very little “chimping”. It is very film shooting retro experience. It’s a lot like shooting with my Canon film SLR. It makes me shoot much more deliberately.

      Excellent practice to control your final image and I think more rewarding getting it right in camera.

    Nice job. I think the suggestion of mastering your digital camera before shooting film is age at idea. I’ve subscribed. Looking forward to more videos. I shoot with and M5 and and M3. I’ve been shooting film since the 1970’s.

      @@analogreasonings8753 Suggestions: samples of your photos with these cameras (the moment you held up that M8 print was awesome). I would like to learn more about your approach to printing digital photos. The Megapixel fallacy. What it is you like about the M5 vs other film cameras or other Leicas. Your approach to shooting (are you doing street or ...?). Looking forward to it.

    Hello Ken. film for me helps to revive the pleasure of making photographs I almost lost in the period of playing with digital. I am yet to travel with film 📷 like I did long ago but I'm sure it will give me more joyful experience and results. Not only few more gigabytes of raws. Keep up posting new vids! Best, Alex

    I have exactly the same shooting philosophy. Personal work is shot with my Leica CL film camera, my RZ67, or my large format Linhof. All work for clients is shot on my Sony a7rii. I started on film in the 90s, got a DSLR in the early 2000s where I really learned what I was doing, then I picked film back up a few years ago. The difference in feeling connected to your work with film over digital is huge, and very important if your doing this as an art. Funny enough, becoming more adept at film has made me better on digital, too.

    • @analogreasonings8753
      @analogreasonings8753 5 років тому

    Hi Ken, I agree with you 100% with being connected with Film, over Digital! I've been in Photography for over 40 years, and most of them with Film. I work with Digital, but real Photography still done with Film! Great Video, I feel with you!
