    I think Benedicte did a good job in expressing the views of many SEND families. Lots of us do know the laws, and how the EHCP process should work. It is incredibly damaging for our families when the correct decision making process isn't followed, so how come here we are, another year on, and yet hundreds of children with with SEND are still being failed by Surrey! Rachael Wardell obviously knows the score! Would be great to have an updated version with last year's data, is that in the pipeline, FVS?

    Wow. How come Surrey's SEND EHCP processes are so horrendous then, if they listen to parents of children with special educational needs? They knowingly disregard SEND regulations, delay support, and damage lives.

  • @annasutherland9101
    @annasutherland9101 Рік тому

    Remember parents, the sections of the EHCP that inform school placement are B Needs and F Provision. You can be as accurate about your child as you like in A, but if it's not in B and F, Surrey can disregard it when deciding on what school your child goes to.

  • @annasutherland9101
    @annasutherland9101 Рік тому

    Parents, MAKE SURE sections B and F accurately reflect your child's needs and provisions required. Essential to get correct school placement. Don't let them get away with meaningless 'woolly wording', like regular/ access to/ frequent. Surrey frequently DO NOT ensure specificity in EHCPs, regardless of what they say in this video. If they aren't specific, they can get away with giving your child less provision! Check out IPSEA, Special Needs Jungle, SOS!SEN.

    Leanne is very uncritical of the Surrey SEND reps here. She says 'brilliant' an awful lot in response to their answers. As a parent whose severely disabled child has been issued with an inadequate EHCP by Surrey, and whose evidence provided by independent experts has been disregarded by Surrey, it is disappointing in the extreme that FVS don't challenge SCC's answers in these videos.

    Another very gentle interview style from FVS. For many parents in Surrey, their children with SEND are completely let down by SCC. Parents, please check out IPSEA, Special Needs Jungle, SOS!SEN.

    Wish the FVS person wouldn't keep saying there is confusion amongst parents on these videos. Many parents are fully aware of the SEND legislation, and many parents would appreciate a tougher line of questioning in these videos. The decisions made at GB panel meetings in Surrey are often unlawful (which is why parents win the vast majority of Tribunals). There isn't a SEND lawyer in attendance at panel to ensure SEND regs are followed, and the panel often do not provide robust evidence when they make decisions which are counter to the wishes of the family. Check out IPSEA, Special Needs Jungle, SOS!SEN for proper independent advice, parents!

    EHCP assessment process is 20 weeks is it?! Surrey Council regularly miss Statutory deadlines, including the 20 week deadline.

    IPSEA: If a local authority (“LA”) is requested to carry out an EHC needs assessment by a parent, young person, school or college, they must consider: whether the child or young person has or may have special educational needs (“SEN”); and whether they may need special educational provision to be made through an EHC plan. If the answer to both of these questions is yes, they must carry out an EHC needs assessment. This test is set out in the law (section 36(8) of the Children and Families Act 2014)

    Jamie failed to mention the current time period involved with Tribunal. From when an appeal is first registered with SENDIST, to the date of a hearing, the wait time is currently 51 weeks. The LA is fully aware of this and is using this as a tactic for delay I.e issuing unfit EHCP's knowing that they are saving a year's funding costs for that child or young person. There was also no mention of how many children and young people are out of education entirely during this process - Jamie makes an assumption that they are in a placement. This highly sanitised and safe representation of how reasonable Surrey LA are is completely inaccurate. My lived experience and that of hundreds of other families could not be more different. The guest mentioned the LA being held to account which I would have thought FVS's role should be in the first instance. I think everyone forgets there are real children and young people at the heart of this who are being failed by everyone. This is true nationally as well as is Surrey so we are not unique, however, Surrey are especially awful which can be seen by the amount of LGO judgements against them along with the volume of appeals lost ( also true nationally). A good question would have been to ask for some data on percentages of Tribunals won/lost - an average figure I believe is that LA'S fail to 'win' around 95 per cent of cases. The reality is no one 'wins' and LA'S need to simply follow the law. Rachel Wardell likes data and a slide but I don't don't recall one on this question.
