SHETLAND by HONDA MONKEY
The first part in my Shetland series. We take the wee Honda Monkey 125 to Scotland's most northerly motorcycle rally, the infamous Simmer Dim! A wee ride over the Cairngorms to Aberdeen to get the ferry before riding up to Ollaberry to get set up for the rally. All easily taken in the stride of the mighty Monkey. We have a wee spin around to visit the cliffs of Eshaness before heading back to the rally for the craziness of the boot party.

The C90 Fuel Experiment is on! After reading so many times online that old fuel and e10 are really bad for my bike, I've decided to conduct the C90 Fuel Experiment. Phase one is testing old fuel. The fuel in question came from my project Triumph Tiger 955, which has been sat for a minimum of six years. Not happy with 6 year old fuel though, I've already had some folks tell me that pre e10 fuel ...

We went on a "proper" holiday! The first one of my adult life!! No tents and we set off on a plane rather than a motorbike! We had a week on Tenerife. Nice video. There are some pretty steep hills around Glenshee. Good to see the wee Monkey made it. Ride safe
The wee Monkey was mair reliable than me!
Wow deja vu , that 90' corner you take at 1.23 looks like a corner my mate didn't take in his beetle in 1992 and carried on into the field which thankfully the gate was left open and also thankfully was firm enough ground on a dark November night for him to eventually stop and allow us to realise what happened and get him to revers out no damage done , we felt very lucky on realisation. , " it went road, road , dude this is not the road i think you missed a sharp corner" , if it is , we were lost and if I say we were trying to get to mount eagle , eventually found on a random forest track, would i be in the right part of Scotland for that particular bend, It was a pitch black night , no google maps or even a paper map or smart phones just transmitter lights that were visible then not , this wasn't planned but one of those dumb ideas of "see those lights can we get to them or not and i don't want to give other details given you pootling about there.
@@MrSCOTTtheSCOT Mount Eagle is in a different part of the country, so I think you might be off. I've put a link to the route I took in the description.
@@yodagoat as i say it was a dark night and the brain was cogitating how if a gate had been in place we would have been not so lucky, anyway lol , tyftr and enjoying your bike journeys, stay safe.
I'm in for the rally
It's proving to be a bit of a nightmare with the ferry. Calmac will only give us space for 16 bikes. I'm still working on things though! Keep an eye on Passing Places Tours or the Small, Old and Slow Facebook page.

I do the Bealach Na Ba just to feel 6°C, the biting wind and horizontal rain at the top....in June 🙄

Been to the simmer dim rally a few times when it was held in Vidlin - a good time was had
I think my dad was at one of them a few years back.

Great vid Mike, literally just back from a couple of days riding (incidentally on that same 'ugly' Kawasaki 😂) - my mate mentioned Dimmer Sim in the bar last night, I hadn't heard of it, then seen this tonight...... spooky! 😁
Thanks! The Dim is definitely worth heading to at least once!
hahaha that opening clip when the video loaded the BRAAAAAAAAH of the monkey of full chat I honestly thought it was the boat horn on the start of Night Boat to Cairo!! Also have to chuckle at the 2 lane motorway, I grew up in Angus when I passed my car test I did the "pass plus" which needed some motorway driving so we had to drive 100 miles south to that 2 lane motorway. Was up in Angus last week and the A90 gave me the creeps turning right across a duel carriageway urgh

There’s a trend at the moment gone viral where a very attractive young woman in a short shirt takes her pants off in public places and leaves them in various places eg on the table in a caff , someone’s pocket in a changing room, bread counter in supermarket. @@yodagoat and I think you've made a sensible choice for September. 😉
Cheers man, me too. It would have been good to get some photos of the Monkey there but I'd much rather have a tent I can actually fit in and not have to wash my pants every second day. 😂
would tend to agree that is the better of the two routes by a mile. Anything with NC500 on it I stay clear , The most overhyped nonsense yet. People leave the city’s for Instagram but it’s scotland there ain’t many options. Been riding around scotland on motorbikes for 20 years now I go abroad it’s cheaper, Better roads, And not full of motorhomes .
I still love most of the North Coast loop. We've been riding there from way before anyone called it the NC500. You can still get it quiet if you go at the right time of year. The Drumbeg loop and Glen Sheil are still amazing fun.
@@yodagoat same, I still remember riding john o groats to durness seeing nobody, I’ll not be back until the fad blows over to be honest. It’s nice but not that nice. Inverary, direction hasn’t seemed so busy recent years with everyone going for a fridge magnet. There are some nice roads there also.
@@Crsf84I still find the worst bit for over tourism, by miles, is Skye. Absolute madness the amount of hired motorhomes clogged up the road there. Glen Brittle now has a massive car park on the road in!
Ride to Durness before 9am or after 6pm. Roads empty after that. All the tourists are sorting tea and admiring the view, clearing the way for the rest of us.
Bloody magic must try that one, but think the wee mad road is still the best I’ve ridden. Oh by the way music was pretty damm good this time lol
Where's the Wee Mad Road? I've heard this one called that before. Glad you liked the tunes, Ben Bohmer has some crackers.
@@yodagoat it’s the B869 just past kylesku bridge coming down from the north

Marvellous, enjoyed that.

I agree too. The view SE from the wee road between Altandhu and Achnahaird is mint, almost our own Monument Valley! And, all the way down by Stac Pollaidh is tremendous to the main road Keep being Yodagoat, it's your ride. Cheers man
Cheers mate. It really is a great part of the world to ride.
That’s my type of road, stunning. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Frank. It really is quality.
I've seen that stretch referred to as The Wee Mad Road. The Bealach is like Hardnose and Whynott - you do them for bragging, not pleasure.
Ha ha! Hardnose and whynott! I've not heard that one before. I'll be using that in the future!
I've done both and would have to agree with you 👍
It's a brilliant wee road.
The Ba is far too busy now. Nobody fell off in that ford this time😂 Agreed mate, that's a superb road 👍
It's a shame that the Bealach Na Ba has became so busy, but you can still get it relatively quiet if you go at the right time.

@@BrettJoy No worries Brett. It was good to meet you.
The Bealach Na Ba is ruined now. Too many campers. The edge of the road is like the surface of the moon. Was up there just last weekend. 😢
To be fair, even 15 years ago the edge of the road was a mess. The rain in winter makes it like a river and washes the gravel at the sides away. The vans in summer definitely aren't helping things.
it’s never been a good road in terms of condition, As mentioned in the vid the corners are not great it’s trying to be the apls on photos but couldn’t be further away from the alps if it tried. It’s a rubbish route even without motorhomes, Something you have to do once but really not worth a return journey.
