Dad Inspects the Airhead! 1981 BMW R80 project part 4
My Dad is a full on BMW Airhead geek. He's restored and worked on loads of beemers of all different ages. He hates a non standard BMW boxer twin nearly as much as he hates keyless ignition and a lack of a centre stand. He's been desperate to give my bike the once over since it's arrived, so now he's up at the garage and having a good poke about.
Lets see what he thinks.......

A phenomenal days ride which asks the question, is a nice twisty road through somewhere bland better than a straight road through somewhere stunning? Luckily we had the best of both, being in the Swiss Alps. This time we ride from Andermatt, over the Oberalp Pass before crossing the mind blowing Albula Pass. @@conniewaite1371 thanks! Glad you're enjoying the videos.
my left ear enjoyed that i think you have a mono microphone. you might be able to fix that in your video editor. also them lifan engins in my experance seem to be ok had mine for quite a few years now and its over 8k miles done aint.
@@BigPezza aye, the mic is mono. I forgot to share it on the other track when I was cobbling that video together. My lifan was fine after a good few oil changes. Shifter still jams occasionally but it's not done that weird clutch slip/jumping out of gear for a while. Most folk I've spoken to seem to have had clutch issues with them at some point. I've got a really nice Honda engine to go in after the lifan dies.
@@yodagoat i had the slip issue but after i changed to using Mineral based oil 10w40 its alot better i am using Putoline - S4 10W-40 at the moment no slip
@BigPezza it was weird. More like if someone was hitting the lever to make it jump for a split second than actual clutch slip.

@DirtyTriumphRider me too! I haven't met a single person who actually rides more than 2000 miles a year say anything positive about keyless ignition on motorcycles.
Great to see you scootering round my stomping ground. A great adventure. Your very brave scootering the Highlands in November. Mind you i was out on 15th January to Cairngorm on my scooter. Thanks Mike again.
That's quite a ride in January Hugh! I was out on the pushbike in the Lammermuir Hills between Christmas and New Year. It looked stunning in the snow.
It’s a crock of shit, not heard that saying for years !!!!, made me laugh. Good video.

Slanderous behaviour..... Maybe. 😂

Yer old man is a legend!
He's some cookie.
Wonderful to see a dad and son with a great relationship. That is one of the main problems of our society now, a lack of real father figures. He's a character, too, like his wee boy. That was a really interesting film. I love the detective work with the electrics. All the best.
Hopefully we get a solution soon and it's not too expensive!
Quality, handy having a dad that knows what the craic is ✊🏻
Aye, he knows his way around these bikes pretty well. I'll try and get my uncle involved too, he's another airhead nut.
Magnifique 👍
Thanks!

There's definitely some of it that needs to go to the headlight board but theres some that have been chopped. You should give me your ignition module. Very friendly.
mine was messed up as well but i think all ex police bikes seem to have a mess on the loom
@@BigPezza it's a hell of a state but I'll get there with it Pez. This one has the added challenge of being someone half started "cafe racer" project.

3 years ago (almost to the day) I rode a 50cc Lexmoto scooter that I bought for my son, from Sheffield to Stockport, right across the Peak District in the near freezing and wet dark. 38mph max speed, 7mph up Winnats Pass ! Was one of the best motorcycle journeys ever. That’s now gone, but my wife has a Honda Vision 110. That’s awesome, you can get 65mph out of that on a good day.
@@Karl3642 ha ha! That sounds like a quality adventure. It's amazing how fun it seems when you look back at those sorts of runs.

@Garrincha29 yes. Just the exhaust, that is all.
@@yodagoat I can’t see it clearly in The video, what is your maximum speed?
@Garrincha29 depends on headwinds but on the flat ist between 55 and 65 mph. If you watch my Shetland video I get it hitting the rev limiter in top gear at 76 (I think that's what is said.)
Never seen a man so happy to go at 48 mph.
