@electrocutas okay, nice film lovely place out there
Thanks for posting. I'm a bit of a museum freak and this was one of the best museums I have ever visited. It was ahead of its time with being interractive and child friendly. I took groups of children there on many occasions. Sadly, it was rarely well patronised but it was a great loss to East Yorkshire and the whole country when it was closed down and the exhibits dispersed. The site today is split between yet another souless shopping Mall and housing.
Pity it's closed. Thanks for posting. 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Yes I took my son there when he was 6 or 7 it was an excellent place, He loved climbing into the Tanks.
Great to hear the late Bob Symes narrating; the day we went no trains were running due to shortage of siutable volunteers.
Wow
Nice set up , good example off a ground frame
Interesting to see an Annett's Key being used.👍
Very impressive video. Lovely ride along the sherwood forest
lovely place and people. great play area and picnic areas, ideal for kids. smashing little engines. if you are in the area its well worth calling in
It looks like a miniature class 66, a class 6.6?
I paid a visit to that line. On the day it was shut!
out of interest, what video is this a snippet of?
Hi sorry dont know. I was given some home recorded dvds with various clips on and just a few writen notes on dates, most of which seem to be wrong.
Amazing view, excellent camera positioning. Good job
cheers, i tries me best !! 🙂
Really love this love them putting coal in fantastic
I used to love Pickering Traction Engine Rally, that I believe will possibly be making a comeback, next year!
Great video's
it was an excellent event
Great vid, thanks for posting👌
Always a good Rally.
Interesting event. Thanks for sharing this great video
👍👍👍👍
RIP Rodger
Someone will know better than me but didnt 46009 haul a rake of Deltics to the scrap line at Doncaster.
I grew up nearby and remember being taken by my cousins on the final passenger train on the now lifted section between Plumpton Junction and Haverthwaite. The works shown at 3:20 aren't the old ironworks mentioned in the commentary but the dolly blue factory run by Reckitt & Colman which is now the Whitewater hotel. It was converted in the early to mid 1980s - I actually worked on the conversion as one of my earliest jobs.
A beautiful sight I will go on the train next time I visit the IOM
It was the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) who conducted this test in 1984. British Energy didn't exist until around 1996.
Thats my petter av1 at along with my grandads lister d and lister diesel, its a real shame that the lincoln steam fest closed it gates for the last time last year 😢
40 years ago already.
This crash test was a farce. The train consisted of only 3 coaches, when a normal passenger train in those days was 11 coaches, give or take. Had this been a full-length train the force of the collision would have been at least 10 times stronger, and the outcome far more realistic. But of course the test had to be fixed, because the flask had to be found to be intact afterwards. I saw this at the time, I was critical of it then and remain so today.
They were not testing the locomotive the train or coaches, they were testing the Nuclear waste container, which I believe was usually on a set 3 vehicles in length.
@@electrocutas Yes, they were supposedly testing the strength of the nuclear flask. That flask could have derailed across the opposite track, and been run into by a diesel-hauled passenger train running at 100 mph. That train could have been 10- 12 coaches in length, and the force of the collision 10 times more than demonstrated here with a piddling 3-coach train. I say again, this crash test was a farce.
Good old days
Too True
Poor old girl! 😢
I saw on the evening news in the same year it happened. But I've seen this also on UA-cam in another video
Beautiful steam locomotive
'Cask deformation was minimal!'
*flask.
I used to haul cobalt 60 from Canada to Syracuse NY, 3 containers about the size of 1/2 of a refrigerator, each weighed 11,000 lbs.
What a waste of a Peak......
At the time they had dozens of the things going for scrap.
I disagree, it gave it's life in service to a good cause. It was also going for scrap anyway in all likelihood.
Closely involved in Operation Smash Hit - as a senior publicity officer for the CEGB at the time - was Discworld author Terry Pratchett. As Terry's biographer Rob Wilkins tells us, following on the event, a stock joke became: 'Now let's see them try that with a British Rail sandwich!'.
Poor train :(
It was all due to be scrapped anyway.
Interesting to note how well the mark 1 coaching stock survived the collision. There was no over riding of the vehicles except at the loco end where the buckeye couplers were not used, and everything remained basically upright and in line.
I noticed that too. Build quality exceptionally good.
😄 Promo SM
I have been involved in the carriage of spent nuclear rods from the de comisioning of the valiant class submarine from Devonport to HMS Vulcan in Thurso and not once felt lntimidated in carrying out my work the reason is I am a trained professional driver who knows how to do his duty with the proper work ethics
I suspect it was the CEGB in 1984!
Why does 46009s data plate describe it as class 45/0? Both 12 cylinder sulzers, but class 45 crompton parkinson electrics, class 46, Brush.
Thought that meself ? Maybe Andy from Little Britain at 00:50 did the design 😄
I Have no idea I am afraid
@@markitg1972 - “Yeah I know” (Well-spotted by the way!)
It was the arrival of TOPS that caused it to be renumbered from it's original number of D146. Assume that they didn't bother changing the data plate?!?
@simaesthesia as D146 it would have been a BR sulzer type 4. Classes 44, 45 and 46, collectively the peaks, were 'invented' with TOPS. It would have become class 46 at that point, never class 45. In any case class 45/0 did not exist until some 45s were fitted with ETH and class 45 locos became 45/1 , if ETH fitted or 45/0 if not ETH equipped.
I have followed its fortunes since it was founded. i do wish there were more brown heritage signs as from the Mansfield direction the roads are a series of small ones with sudden turns and a satnav is essential. I went to the Steampunk festival last year(?)and the only time I can go upstairs wearing a sword on a tramcar!
I started visiting in the early 70's usually for the Transport extraveganza's They were the best auto jumbles ever. Still try get every 2 or 3 years but it was a shame when the internet killed off such events. I like to have a day at Crich stay over then Ripley for a day. Wonderfull places
Note the off loading rail ramp bottom left in opening sequence
Good shot of Graham Withers at 0:55
Beautiful 🙂
Excellent video of Lincoln steam rally 😊😊thank you Sadly no more😂😂
