      Hi, Thank you for watching & your comment. Yes, mine is a fuel injected (EFI) 865cc model. It's a 2009, they went over to EFI in 2008, it was the only way Triumph could meet the Euro 3 emissions regulations & still stay air/oil cooled. That situation lasted until 2016'ish when the liquid cooled T100 & T120 (1200cc) models came out. Thanks again & ride safe.

    Hi Paul, l have 2 Buffalo saddle bags on my Triumph Bonneville 865cc. I carry a full tool kit. 2 punture repair kits.Foam and tubeless. Manual small footpump. Wet gear. WD 40 Small can of spray oil. Duck tape. Cable ties. Flask of coffee and sandwiches . The Bonneville suits saddlebags. I've got breakdown &recovery. I can't take no chances with my leukaemia and prostate cancer and usually limit my rides to around 100 miles or shorter coastal trips. Thanks very much Paul for the fuse tip and the seat screws. I was diagnosed 2020 and l ride all year round, even during my chemotherapy. I told my consultants I'm not stopping riding my bike, it's my link sanity 😅

I agree with the link to sanity thing, I have prostrate issues too & when out riding it is the only time I think you can not think about anything else & clear your mind. I will have a look at those buffalo bags for my Bonnie, I have shortlisted the Oxford Heritage ones but will explore the Buffalo ones. Once again thank you & ride safe (for many more years)

      @fixtrixgrandpop 18 днів тому

      Hi, thanks for watching. When I plugged mine in for the first time they both showed red & they charged quicker than I expected, but instructions did say they come partially charged. I have had mine & used them for a while now & they have never flashed. They are solid red when charging & go green when charged (takes around hours). Sounds like a faulty connection or battery. Have you tried swapping the lead connectors from one battery to the other, this would indicate whether it is one of the lead connectors at fault, if the same battery flashes then looks like you have a faulty battery. Either way I would defiantly take em back for a replacement. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you get it sorted perhaps you could let me know in case I have an issue down the line. Thanks again & ride safe

      @ hey so yeah So it’s definitely the battery, the one that’s solid red, I plugged it in to check if it heats the glove and it’s working fine, but the one that’s flashing red/green it did not turn the gloves on at all so defo a battery issue, so annoying as I had to drive 60 miles round trip to my nearest shop to buy them today 🙄 but oh well hopefully this will help someone in the future 👍🏽

    As others have noted, appears to be the 650 chassis. But I do recognize to be sure the XJ750 motor -- I had an 82 Seca 750 back in the day. My grandad owned a US Honda-Yamaha dealership from the late 60s through the late 80s. Not only did I own one, I set up more than a few new ones out of a crate whilst in high school. Enjoyed the content. Subbed. Cheers.

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 20 днів тому

      Hi, Thank you for watching and double thank you for the sub. The more comments I get on the subject the more I am convinced, as you say, I had the 650 chassis with the 750 motor. As I said in the video, that engine seemed to be well over engineered, I reckon it would have taken a really heavy rebore & probably been taken well in access of 800cc. Sounds like you had a cracking job whilst at High School, & bikes are obviously in the family blood. Thanks' again & ride safe.

  • @CaptHollister
    @CaptHollister 24 дні тому

    Whatever the engine or description might say. Your bike is an XJ650. Absolutely and without question. The XJ750 looked entirely different. It was also certainly not a US model. Hardly any were sold in the US and they all had imperial instrumentation, but even more telling, it did not have the YICS system. Back in 1982 and through 1993 I had a very similar XJ650RJC Seca. That last C, however, denotes the incredibly rare unicorn Canada-only version. It served me well for all those years during most of which it was my only transport. It even saw more snow than any normal motorcycle ever should. It also did something few Canadian motorcycles ever get to do: during my first summer of ownership my then girlfriend (now wife of 42 years) and I flew ourselves and the Seca over the pond to London. From there it was on to London, then Paris, Switzerland, the alps, then on to Italy to visit with my relatives in the old country. This is the ONE bike I regret selling and if I ever come upon it again I will buy it back on the spot. The pictures show that your bike says YICS. Only the Canadian version of XJ650 had the YICS motor, but all the XJ750s had it. So either you have a Canadian XJ650RJC (also distinguished by the factory installed oil cooler and the name 650 Seca on the sidecases) or you have a normal XJ650 that has been fitted with an XJ750 motor. The Canadian version will have a VIN number that begins with 15U.

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 23 дні тому

      Hello again, You are far more knowledgeable than myself when it comes to the XJ range. I had realised early on that the machine I had had been "modified" in the past, so it probably did have the 750 motor installed prior to my ownership, could account for that mounting breaking off if someone had been a bit energetic when tightening it. I don't think it was the RJC version as the Canadian model would have the MPH speedo as you correctly mentioned. I am convinced that it was a Japanese import. The UK registration document I had upon purchase just stated XJ750 Seca, no suffix at all. That was a hell of a trip you & your wife embarked on, full respect to you both . . . and the XJ of course. I am fully committed to Triumph now & have had My '09 Bonnie for 14 years. If you go back through my Channel content you may find a few more video's that are of interest. All the best & continue to ride safe. Paul.

      @@fixtrixgrandpop The best to you. I did enjoy owning my 2004 Thruxton a couple of decades ago (!). At the time it was only the third Thruxton imported into Canada. Just to be clear, the Canadian 650 Seca came years after the country switched over to the metric system, so the speedo was graduated in km/h.

    Sir, I am 100% confident you have your XJs confused. What you have here is clearly a 650, which you can tell from the side panels, the tank, the forks, the headlight and the dash. The 750s had the square dual headlights and more complex suspension. Also, I can see in the pictures that the speedometer acrually does read miles, since the metric gauge went all the way to 220 km/h

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 25 днів тому

      Hi, Thank you for watching and your comment. You are correct, there are a few anomalies with this machine. However the motor was defiantly a 750. As I mentioned in the video I measured the bore very accurately to determine wear and it came up as 65.000mm dia, I also measured the stroke which showed 56.40, this put the displacement at 748.6 cc. I did change the speedo to an imperial one during the rebuild, the original one was kilometres. I very much suspect that the machine was a grey import from Japan. During the rebuild I realised that while ordering parts the machine was a bit of a Frankenstein! Sometimes referred to as a "Bitsa" in the UK. Thanks again, & ride safe. Regards, Paul.

      Hi, Thank you for watching & your comment. I agree about the Mutt range of bikes. If I where just starting out on bikes one of those would be on my (very short) list. Hope you do go on to own/ride a bike. I'm 70 now & after getting my licence at 16 I rode for a couple of years then got into moto-x (scrambling as it was called back then) so didn't ride on the road. I got back into biking about 25 years ago with a Yamaha I rebuilt then my Bonneville. If you have anything on your mind bothering you (as we all have from time to time), once you get on that bike everything else disappears whilst your riding. What i'm saying is that biking is very good for the mind as well. Anyway enough of my ramblings. Good luck with your quest & know you won't regret a moment of it if you do go down the biking journey. Hey Paul thanks for putting this video together and demonstrating the practicality or not of these gloves. I did own a pair of these Paragon gloves although an early model but i doubt they changed too much. first impression from not having heated gloves before was Great they are nice and warm and that feeling lasted a short while but as the temperatures dropped i started to realise they gave absolutely no heat to the pain in my finger tips and only warmed the back and front of my hands. As an older rider myself the finger tip pain can be a distraction to my concentration so i still found myself reaching for the heat of bikes engine at every set of traffic lights . also i then purchased some Oxford rainseal very Ugly handle bar muffs but still not enough warmth to the finger tips So either the old body is less tolerant to cold or the manufactures need to rethink and develop a better system like Heated Muffs that circulate hot air to the finger tips . I dont particularly enjoy riding a bike through winter But i work in London and a Bike is the cheapest motored commute weapon of choice for my 34 mile trip . The gloves lasted 2 seasons and developed a fault so now with temps currently being minus 2 for my 4,30 am start i am using £10 ebay bar muffs and much more flexible summer gloves with a thermal under glove and still reaching for the Engine heat at every opportunity the Paragon were just to bulky to time consuming and not hitting the spot FOR ME All the best

      Hi, Thanks for watching and your comment, You have far more experience of this cold finger issue than me. I will be updating my findings on the Paragon gloves in due course & from what you have said I may well come to the same conclusion. Thank you so much for taking the time to post your findings & ride safe. Regards, Paul.

    Picked up a pair for myself two weeks ago because my RST summer gloves were unbearably cold. These gloves solve the coldness problem entirely even on the lowest level, I just don't like the fact that they give me the dexterity of a toddler with very hit-and-miss touchscreen capabilites haha. Great video!

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 2 місяці тому

      Hi, Thanks for watching & your comment. I must admit I do like thinner gloves for the feel on the controls they give. If my hands are warmer I reckon I hope I can put up with the lack of dexterity for a few months if it means I can get out on the bike in the colder months, Thanks again & ride safe.

    Thank you so much for that excellent video. (subscribed). What a smart bike. I'm looking at Bonneville videos to try and get a handle on the different models and differences by year - still a long way off choosing a favourite. I take it yours is fuel injection if you have had re-maps but the carb looked real.

      Hi, thank you for your subscription and comment. I love mine as you can probably gather. Yes mine is one of the first injected ones, started 2008 I believe. Good luck on choosing a model, there are so many now. If I where buying now I would consider the 1200 models for that bit of extra power (handy with a pillion) and the 6th gear. Thanks again & ride safe.

    Very helpful thanks, do you need to use the spacers on the rectifier guard or are they optional?

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 3 місяці тому

      Hi Arthur, Thanks for watching the video & your comment. Couldn't remember whether I used the spacers or not, it's been a while now since I fitted it. Just been out & checked & yes you do have to use the spacer as the mounting holes in the regulator/rectifier are recessed so without the spacers fitted between the guard & the reg/rec the guard would distort when screws where tightened. The longer screws were also included in the kit if I remember correctly. Hope that helps. Thanks again & ride safe. Paul.

    'MUTT' is a great branding & merchandising exercise based on OEM Chinese motorcycles. No problem with the latter - but - lets all just be honest about it shall we....... (NB: The 'a.n.other' number with an adventure bike is out of the same stable as the 'SINNIS' version and really shouldn't be carrying the pseudo-artisan 'MUTT' brand).

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 3 місяці тому

      Hi Clive, Thanks for watching & your comment. Yes they are a Chinees bike & the adventure looks very very similar to the other Chinees machines CF moto, Voge (not sure that spelling is correct) etc. As I have replied to other comments, if I where just starting out in biking I would give these serious consideration over a generic twist & go scooter. Thanks again & ride safe. Paul.

    Thanks for the tour mate. I went to Mutt when they were near Digbeth, they have really grown. Great to see a small independent motorcycle company, I think the engines are from Suzuki. Just a note on your phone camera, give the lens a clean before filming, the smudges will soften and blur the images. All the best mate.👍

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 3 місяці тому

      Hi, Thanks for watching & comments. Yes they have grown & as a retired engineer I love to see it. Chatting to the guys there, they told me the engines where a Suzuki DR which they discontinued & sold to a Chinees company. Mutt buy the engine / frame assembly from them & add the rest dependent on model. They do look good & if I where just starting out I would buy one as opposed to a twist & go thing. I didn't notice the mucky lens, normally use my gopro type camera but had an issue with the sound so used the phone. Thanks again, ride safe. Paul.

    Hi Paul, Good to see you keeping busy. Since commenting last, I have received and fitted the progressive fork springs from TEC. Removed the O2 Sensors from the Arrow 2 into 1 and removed the AIS system. Remapped and reconfigured the computer with TuneEcu. The bike runs better and a little louder. I now need to do the valve shims. I ride all year round here. Usually on the bike most days even if its only to go shopping. We are privileged with the weather that we have, a true motorbike paradise, and yet there are not as many bikes on the road that you would expect. I see that TEC have Baffles for sale, 10 and 6 hole, compared to the ones that I made which are 15 and 18 hole . I use the 18 hole one (the holes are 6mm) The bike sounds fine. Thanks for the video, keep them coming. Graham, Bundaberg, Queensland….

    • @fixtrixgrandpop
      @fixtrixgrandpop 3 місяці тому

      Hi Graham, You've been busy! Tec do sell baffles but I think they are for a specific TEC exhaust model, I would check if they fit the arrow system before purchasing. If your happy with the sound and the way it responds now maybe stick with that. You mention doing the valve shims, when I did mine I made a schematic/chart on the CAD, makes it much easier than scribbling on a note pad & less likely to make errors. If you would like a PDF of the schematic/chart just send me your e-mail address to pawwoody@gmail.com & i'll send a copy attached & you can print as many as you need. Ride safe. Paul.
