Porsche M96 / M97 3-Chain Cam Timing
Переглядів 3,8 тис.11 місяців тому
Lee runs through installing and timing the camshafts on M96 / M97 3-chain engine. You'll need Porsche Special Tools P9685 (holds Inlet Cam locknut) and P9686 (holds cams with M8 thread on end of head). Lee uses P9611 to hold the middle of the cams but this is not essential on the 3-chain engine. Don't forget to install the IMS chain tensioner next to the oil filter before starting this job if i...
Top notch on the tutorial for cam install and timing.
Nice video, can I send you an email?
Great video - would love to see more from Hartech!
More will follow soon mate

Great video. Yorkshire style, to the point.
Yorkshire style with a very northern twist 😂
"Promosm" 🌸
Fantastic lee
excellent! is Dire-straits, background music or engine status before work starts? more serious question: why don't you put lubrication onto the cam before the bearing caps are fitted? (or is it there but not obvious)
I use a paste called graphogen which I had already applied
Very informative 🎉
Quick question, when the timing solenoid is activated, and timing is advanced or retarted, is it like on and off by X amount of degrees. Or can the computer control how many degrees is advanced or retarded !?
My understanding is that with variocam (this car) it’s a set amount of advance like an on off switch. With variocam plus (later models), the engine computer can make more choices. Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
@@ManinaGarage I mean my car has variocam plus, but I don’t see how the computer can control specific degrees, if the oil solenoid is simply on and off and it take time for the oil to fill the chamber to rotate the camshaft !? It also means the computer needs to allow a partial fill of the oil chamber in the camshaft head to have a specific degree
@@MowSow sounds like a question for Barry Hart 😁
The computer controls it but it only has a working range. This is why it’s important to have it in the lock position before removing the bolt. If the unit is not set correctly when you turn the key oil pressure hits the unit and throws it hard over which leaves you 15 degrees out
@@ThePorscheEngineGurus I think you are referring to the 996/986 the variocam solenoid for timing, it is very different on newer models, yours is based on bushing the timing chain to force the cam to rotate, while the newer one simply opens an oil passage to a chamber that fills with oil to rotate the camshaft
Awesome, now 5 chain video! Also, cam gear bolts dry to torque or loctite?
Dry
Definitely following this channel!
Awesome! 🤘😎
Might have to collaborate on a video finn
@@ThePorscheEngineGurus My Bikini is ready! 🥳
@@ManinaGaragecan’t wait to see your bikini with Lee’s matching shorts 🤣😂
