My Thoughts on the ZSA Moonlander Keyboard

Thanks for watching! Be sure to like this video and subscribe to get notified about future ones! Here's a link to Ben Vallack's awesome channel: ua-cam.com/users/BenVallackfeatured Coiled TRRS Cable that I'm using: www.amazon.com/dp/B07FFW8YZR
Really enjoyed this video. I'd been looking for an L shaped sit/stand desk for a while, and I'd not been able to find any for the longest time. Definitely going to have to move to something like that with a multi-monitor setup, my current desk/monitor system is just so limiting
I type 75wpm ~ with like two fingers most of the time, occassionally I'll use another finger but I've only used my right pinky so far writing this out.
I stopped using VIM when I discovered Micro Editor.
Another good video. I really want to get more use out of my iPad.
Thanks for the overview! You should keep it up. You're great at these. I'm waiting anxiously on my moonlander, which just shipped. Subbed!
thanks for the great demo
Hello, thank you for the video, I really learned a lot. try to use neovim for better and lighter IDE
Adults with braces look weird as heck
Are you in any way related to uncle Bob?
I just ordered the Moonlander. Fingers crossed
Nice video
you said we are going to be center in the keyboard but you actually center the video programming react :)
i just got it, it's very difficult to get used to but i can see the potential in it
The default leader key is '\' now. So anyone that installs Vim VSCode extension, you'll have to hit '\-\-j' or '\-\-k'
I would love to see more coding-specific macros like the string one. Thanks for the video.
Super nice video Bruno. This keyboard recently got my attention and I've been reading a lot about it. Just made my order and I'm looking forward to getting it.
🥰
Hola Bruce.... excelente tu video. Me podrías indicar si puedo configurar en este teclado la letra Ñ, como en un teclado en español? Apreciaría mucho el aclarar esta inquietud.
I plan on getting this keyboard too, but I will personally use the Colemak layout on it as compared to the Qwerty one (I made the switch long ago). I would recommend that you make the switch over to Colemak too since it helps you to minimize finger travel and arguably leads to better ergonomics/hand-health as well as typing speed.
Awesome setup/reformed disscenters studio your stacked my guy love the setup 👍❤️❤️❤️
Thanks, man! :)
Man if they had five led indicator lights they could have used binary to show all 32 layers (0 to 31) that would have been soo much cooler
awesome
(: the Str macro should kinda' be staple behavior of simply pressing the " key in any editor you'd ever want to use
I am a vim coder, I had nooo idea how to get it going in Chrome. Is it even worth it?
I think it is! :)
Forgive me if this is an awkward question, what are the name of the glasses you’re wearing in this video?
Haha good question... I'm not actually super sure... the only thing I can find on the frames is the word "gunmetal"...
Love the desk! Any details?
For some reason, I wasn't able to find the link to the desk I purchased. However, I believe this one is at least very similar: www.amazon.com/IRONCK-Industrial-Bookshelf-Workstation-Furniture/dp/B07TLMXVYS
Eager to know about how you configure the Planck for iPad (Pro) use!! What about that „promised“ 😉 video??
So sorry about the lack of content, recently. I recently moved in July and that's taken up a large chunk of my time. Hopefully, I'll be getting back into the swing of things, shortly. I'll try to put this at the top of my list. :) Thanks for asking!!
@@Doctorcraft773 No worries! I got the Planck myself a few days ago and I‘m already hacking together my own QMK firmware - including the down facing RGB LEDs as status indicators (like lighting some of the LEDs red if CapsLock is on or lighting some other LEDs while holding down the RAISE oder LOWER keys or playing a short melody when playing back a macro that prints my eMail address etc.). 😊 Works on the iPad Pro, too, but had to order another, USB-3-fully-compatible, USB-C to USB-C cable.
Omg 1 entire minute of useless crap ... video starts at 1:30
If you place your macbook like that wouldn't the stand block the air vent
Haha Yes, I believe it was blocking it. I have a different configuration now, which I'll hopefully be producing a video on. It's a much different setup with far better ventilation for my MacBook.
Hey Bruce, I really like that mountain and sky decoration behind you in this video. Do you remember where you got it? Or did you make it? I imagine it could be a fun DIY project.
This keyboard is really expensive!! Would you happen to know how this compares to the Logitech - ERGO K860 for general typing comfort ?
You have spent 80 starting seconds not talking about the subject, but about your channel. You're just lucky with your 1% of new subscribers 😅
It is not open source hardware
Is there any plans for a new video? Just curious if your mappings have changed since this video or if any workflow have evolved
At this point, I hadn't really considered that... but, that's not a bad idea! Haha I'll certainly take that into consideration while planning my next set of videos. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the layout you're using. Going to steal some of the layers and improve my personal layout.
Of course! :) Awesome!!
@Bruce Johnson Hey Bruce, great review. I have a question about the keyboard settings. Do your settings and layers save to the keyboard itself or do you have to have the software on every computer you switch to? For example if I set the keys a different key layout and set layers, will it still plug and play with the same layout and layers if I swap it to another computer? Thanks again.
Hey, @nickC! Great question! The Moonlander does not require any additional software to be open in order to use the layers. I've even taken it from my MacBook to my iPad without any issues.
great keyboard! im just getting slaped in face by it lol
I'm on the fence between a small split kb like the Kyria and a one-piece like the Planck.
I type over 100wpm and find that it’s fast enough that the tap dance feature becomes far less useful since even when I’m “holding” a key it’s so fast that it thinks it’s being tapped.
Oh really? That's really interesting!! I have yet to actually try out the tapdance feature... but, I've heard a lot of great things about it.
Same for me. I hover around 150 and the tap dance feature is not useable but i don’t mind
Thanks for the video, especially the tip for coders regarding the quotes! Didn't know about it, it's super useful! Ordered the Moonlander today, can't wait to use it :)
