Are all of the “absolute” comics darker like this one? I like how they killed some main bad guys right away in the story.. bye bye mob… I wonder if they are going to introduce new bad guys or previous good guys as bad guys? Since Bruce is not wealthy in this story, he has not helped a lot of people as Mr. Wayne…..hmmm
@@amandamartin1062 thats a great thought. Bruce not having the disguise as the philanthropist playboy he could be subjected to more scrutiny as a person who could be Batman. The weird thing is. Where is he getting all the tech lol? Thanks for watching and commenting.
Awesome episode. Absolute Batman is brutal and an interesting spin on the original canon. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks. I’m working on it right now. I want to get all 4 out before the 5th one drops and then I want to do Absolute Wonder Woman and Superman.
What does everyone think of Absolute Batman and the Absolute Universe so far?
I like that I don’t really know any of the actors in this movie except for maybe Nathan Fillion. Him being Guy Gardner is hilariously intriguing. I’m just afraid the MCU may have burned out the general public on super hero movies. I guess if there’s any one hero who can bring hope, it’s Supes. Great video!
@@Panyc333 Thanks! Yeah the Guy Gardner thing in general is hilarious. Why can’t we just have a God***n Green Lantern suit? They took such accuracy with Mr. Terrific but a staple of DC (Green Lanterns. Not Guy Gardner) gets whatever the hell jumpsuit that is. Oh well. I just hope the movie is great!
@@LapsedComicFan James is going for DC’s the Terrific’s in the Superman movie, notice how Hawkgirl, Guy Gardener, and Mr. Terrific are all wearing the same color scheme, only his is slightly darker.
@ ok that makes sense. I don’t know much about that group, but thank you for telling me. I appreciate it.
@@LapsedComicFan Metamorpho was in it as well, so I suppose James read those too for his inspiration for his version of the DCU.
@@CoolnessNSparks ok cool so I did get Metamorpho correct! Woohoo! I never thought about the Terrifics since they’re not even 8 years old and I don’t remember Hawk Girl or Guy being on the Dark Multiverse traversing team. I just remember their formation when Simon Stagg tried to open a portal into the Dark Multiverse using Metamorpho to transmute Nth metal. Aah Nth metal… Thanks for commenting back. I appreciate it. Have a happy holiday!!! Join the live stream tomorrow at 1 pm est if you can!!
What does everyone think about the teaser? What do you want out of this iteration of Superman? Does James Gunn have what it takes to handle such a huge franchise with a lot of expectation?
Things like “Batman parenting moments” and “Batman kill count” are my favorite part of Bat Bits. Even still, this is a really good breakdown with the perfect mix of humor pacing out the story beats. Great video! Looking forward to more. Also, the Almost-Mobile is never not funny.
@@Panyc333 Thank you for sticking around and commenting. The funny part with the almost mobile is at some point he just gets a car with a giant bat logo on it so I’m waiting for the moment to happen. It’s gotta be sometime soon. Thanks again

I like the '90s X-Men as well as the team's appearances on Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends better than the Bizzaro World-type pilot from the late 80s!
@@christopherjudge1138 I like the 90’s show better as a whole but the animation (to me) is far superior in this, but I am a sucker for late 70’s early 80’s style animation, but the 90’s show is the superior product. It’s too hard to compare 1 episode to a full fleshed out series. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
keep making content bruce
Remember how badass Gambit was in the 90's cartoons?
Thanks for watching. I actually do a lot of research on these before I make them, but I don’t do these acting like I know historical knowledge of the writing. It’s made for people who don’t want to read the old comics which are very hard to do. I appreciate your comment. Thanks. Hope you enjoyed it. The reason Batman said what he said is because of an earlier comic where a hatchet was used.
The thing with directly associating hatchets with chinese gangsters is that there once was a chinese gang that exclusively used hatchets. That was around the 20's. Now you can see them in movies (Drunken Master 2, Ip Man or kung-fu hustle).
This was and is an excellent issue. The characterisation and dialogue is sharp and focused. It's an unusual comic book for it's time, even for a Marvel comic book. Jack Kirby's art is simplistic but sharp and bold, but he must have done more than the art when creating this piece. The blob is an earthy character, uncouth, loud-mouthed and lustful, but despite his power and arrogance, he is no more than a fairground attraction, of which he is resentful and turns on his masters when he at lasts realises the truth about his superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for him, he is also conceited and vain, and when his mind regresses, he goes back to being a mere carnival freak, that he dislikes, but has to accept because there's no other place for someone like him in the world.
Thanks for this very well thought out comment. More videos will be coming as I’m finally back from 7 months of 7 days a week work. I appreciate the view!

Thanks for commenting! I appreciate it. Check out the new intro for the blob episode of project X. My buddy Kevin made it. You may like it. Thanks for the feedback
I agree with you about the over used, is Batman a hero or a menace thing with their stories. I can't believe they still do that
Make sure to change the video settings to 1080p @ 60fps. Most of my shows are in that resolution/fps
How did everyone like the first issue of Chip Zdarsky’s take on Batman?
Is it completely weird that every single guy wants to bang out Jean Grey? How old is she supposed to be? Like 17/18? This is creepy. The professor X stuff was so weird.
Another great job man! These need to be seen more, it's like audio books for comics but even cooler!!
Plus that fire intro!
@@LapsedComicFan For sure! I think I have one of the comics that you used in it!
Professor X acts like a villain when the Blob declines his offer. Just because Charles laid all his cards on the table doesn’t give him the right to hold the Blob against his will.
Completely. After reading tons of back issues of X-Men I’ve found professor X to be a massive tool. He’s super creepy too. Just a very big douche bag. Thank for the comment.
2:19 😂
I like that. 😉 I was around when that 1st came out. I have this on DVD, also the animation style was just like the Transformers and some of the voices too. If you listen closely you can tell that some of them are the same voice actors played in Transformers, but yeah they should have continued with this! The art style was great, by an oriental animation Crew, animeish.😉 Far better than the one that came out. Just my opinion 🤔😉
Hey Sarge! Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it. Yeah I would’ve liked to have seen where this would’ve went, but still had the 92 show also. It’s crazy. Any time anyone says anything critical of the 92 show people get very uptight/defensive when I thought (like you) that the animation is far superior in this. Yeah there’s transformers and G.I. Joe voices in this. Cyclops stands out because of Duke (G.I. Joe) but that’s going to be obvious. Hope you enjoyed the video.
I liked the pryde of x. Animation was good, but i thought the plot was subpar, tho was a pilot in late 80s, didn’t like voice acting or character development. Was good for a one off. But animated series we got was far better.
Thanks for commenting. Appreciate it. I mean we could never really know. It was only one episode. It’s hard to compare one episode to a whole series. This followed the comics a little more but the voice acting wasn’t good at all. I would’ve liked to see what a series would’ve been with still having the 92 series. Either way I like that we have both of these.
Kitty with the most annoying voice! But i love her when she voices linka and Lola
Hey I have a question.when you spoke about the collection of trading cards.. I have a lot of those and I can’t find a place to appraise them for value!!! Can you please help me??
Let me look into asking a few guys I know and if they have an answer I will direct you to them. Thanks for the feedback and checking out the channel.
I used to wake up every morning at 6 am to try and catch this episode in 1991. on channel wpwr 50 in Chicago
I appreciate you commenting. Thank you. If it wasn’t for my brother getting me this I’m not sure I would’ve ever seen it till much later. I also saw an advertisement I think in wizard or some comic and it made me want to see it even more before he got me the VHS. We’re you ever able to catch it? I used to have to wake up at 5am to record Robin Warriors off of some syndicated channel for a while (before we hd a programmable vcr. I know the pain. Lol. Thanks for watching. I hoped you liked the video.
So there was a lot of bagging on the voice acting in this but for what it is worth, the voice actress for storm did a better job on the accent than goddamn Halle Berry
Hey man. Thanks for commenting! You don’t know how much this means to me. I’ve been waiting to interact with people on my videos for a long time and I really appreciate it. I will say this. 1. Anything is better than Halle Berry. 2. Cyclops having such an iconic voice (Duke G.I. Joe) throws me off 3. Wolverine ugh The rest is hit or miss. I wouldn’t say any of the voice actors did horrible it’s more the editing that accompanies the visuals it was like for a lot of 80’s cartoons. Thanks for watching. I hoped you liked the video.
Thanks for sharing - at least we got a great arcade game from it. Would have been happy with that animation quality, but ohh gawd the voice acting noooo. Much better in 92.
Thank you for commenting! I really appreciate that you took time to watch and comment. I agree it’s much better in 92, but man there are some stereotypes in the 92 that are super cringe. The main cast is great (except for Morph in my opinion) I was one of the few that didn’t care for Wolverine in the 92 but it was way better than anything on this. Hahaha.
That’s a lot of head. Anyone agree? What do you think of the story/dialogue/art style? Does it hold up or is it definitely a product of the time?

@@Bear_Butt Hope you liked the video? It was definitely a fun one.
The Animation was Amazing and the suits were on point but the writing was just terrible.
Thanks for commenting. It means a lot and I appreciate it! Even though it took from the Claremont era (Byrne also. I believe. I could be wrong). I believe Stan wrote this story because it is very reminiscent of the early X-Men dialogue. I know he wrote the opening song lyrics. Lol. Article here: www.cbr.com/stan-lee-pryde-x-men-theme-song/ I believe the music was written by Robert J Walsh. At least that’s the info I found.
@@LapsedComicFan I think it was a missed opportunity for the music too but man I wish the art and animation style translated to the 90s series.
i still love this pilot,, wish they would of made a series out of it..
As do I. It would’ve been cool to have an 80’s series of this then move onto the 92 series. Thanks for commenting! I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed the video
92' has some of the best, most iconic voice acting. What are you saying? Apocalypse alone is enough
Firstly thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it. These are opinions my dude. They’re not facts. Like yours is an opinion. I know people who hate the 92 show. They even hate the Spider-Man show from around the same time. My older brother thinks this show is trash, but I didn’t mean all the characters but some of the characters were super generic in my opinion. I think you’re taking my opinion on the show as a whole (which I was referring to) as a slight on some of the better voice acted characters such as Apocalypse, Mister Sinister, Magneto (all great) I like a lot of the voice acting (I should have been more clear.I apologize, but a lot them are insert generic stereotype ethnicity here (all the tribes people in the Storm Shadow King episode, the Gambit episode with the thieves. All the extras on the Genosha episodes (generic as fuck) . I could go on and on. Sunfire LoL! The Morlocks! Morph lol. it’s still a great show and I love it, but to me it doesn’t hold a candle to shows like Batman TAS, Justice league and other shows from around the same time and I know there’s people who hate those shows (it’s ok with me. It doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of it. It’s just their opinion . All opinions are welcome here. Let’s just have fun with the conversation. Thanks again for taking the time out to comment. I really do appreciate it. If I came across as an asshole. I’m sorry for that. I just feel people should be allowed to have their opinion even if it disagrees with someone else’s opinion.
The theme song tho’
@@Fireworkfoxxvinyer I love the 92 theme. You guys will see something cool when the new project X episodes get done. Thanks for commenting
Michael Bell is the voice actor who did the voice of Cyclops in this pilot. I actually thought he did a great as he did as Dr. Bruce Banner in the short lived 1980’s Incredible Hulk animated series which aired alongside Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
I appreciate your comment! Thanks for checking me out. I hoped you like the video? Oh man I didn’t even know that. I only knew him G.I. Joe. That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing.
The original airing at least in Los Angeles was December 1988 because it was syndicated in the Marvel Action Universe so various stations differ, it was then released to VHS via New World Pictures in 1989 in a white box and recorded in SP mode, there are about 40 seconds after the first act that were edited when released by the budget video company Best Films in the 90's this company released a handful of classic Marvel cartoons on VHS.
That’s awesome info. I only got the VHS and it wasn’t white. It was multicolored and had a picture of the team on the front and had these hilarious commercials on it. One was with Spider-Man. We didn’t have cable growing up until the 90’s so would’ve never seen it. I do know it aired where I lived on the Marvel Action Universe, but didn’t know it was in late 88. The only info I found was an airfare of September of 89 (maybe that’s when the VHS was released) I got the VHS in 1990. That’s really cool I do though. I appreciate the comment and I hope you liked the video?
Is that guitar in the intro from Golden Axe?
No that is music by my good buddy Kevin Broderick. I have his Spotify and other music in the description for the videos. Dude is awesome and been a great friend for years. Thanks for asking about it. He’s helped me quite a bit. All the intro music for every show is done by him. Really appreciate the comment! Hope you enjoy the content.
"Although you've won, Nightcrawler must die!"
So I remember the first time I watched this. It’s actually quite clear in my head. I was so pissed that Night Crawler was gonna die and that Kitty Pryde was gonna live but then when he ended up in the locker at the end I was super happy but then got depressed again when he gave all the credit to Kitty. I was like Nooooooo! She was such a dick to you! Hahaha. Thanks a bunch for commenting. I really appreciate it.
I had this on VHS. Watched it a lot until the 92 version came out. The animation really isn't that much different. Wolverines voice is horrible in this version. I just can't get past "Duke" from GI Joe as the voice of Cyclops. It's horrible! I was never a fan of Kitty Pryde. But I do wish that Colossus was part of the 92 versions team as well as Iceman. I think the 92 version is much better. I think the best team I would want to see is: Professor X Cyclops Jean Grey Storm Colossus Wolverine Beast Iceman Nightcrawler Rogue Gambit
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. Yes the 92 I think is the superior show. I don’t think there is much of a comparison since this was just one episode, but I do believe the animation is a lot different. It’s much more fluid and it doesn’t have a lot of the mistakes the 92 version had. Coloring miscues, flickering cells, stuff like that. That’s the great thing about this though. We all see things differently and have our feelings about it. You’re 100% correct though about the voice acting. It is bad in this and a lot of the choices make no sense. I like the team you put together here. It would’ve been cool to see what would’ve come about from this in my opinion. Thanks so much for commenting.
Colonial Stereotypes isn't far off from what's on Fox News rn
Bahahahaha. Well you’re not far off. Lol. Thank you for the comment and hope you enjoyed the video.
I still enjoy this episode, and would have loved to have seen a full season. Oh well, at least we got an awesome Arcade Game out of it.
Thank you very much for the comment. I really appreciate it. You’re not lying. I will be playing a MAME version of the arcade game soon and will post it on here (obviously with unlimited continues) just so I can remember the ending of the game. Man that was a fun beat ‘em up.
I love how Wolverine happened to be Australian in the first X-Men cartoon ever. Enter Hugh Jackman
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time out to comment. I really appreciate it. Did you catch the “foreshadowing Hugh Jackman” joke? Haha. They definitely went full Aussie with the human casting. Hahaha! Thanks again for commenting!
@@LapsedComicFan The person who played Wolverine's voice in the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends episode "A Firestar is Born" was also Australian. It sounds like it may have been the same actor.
He’s a mutant! A stinking mutant!
I loved this, I remember seeing it and waiting for the next episode and waiting... and waiting. I was 19 in '92. This 2 episodes the X-Men were on Spider-Man & Amazing Friends was closer to this
@dannytarver4533 Aside from the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends episode "A Firestar is Born", there was "The X-Men Adventure" which was originally intended to serve as a backdoor pilot of sorts for an X-Men series. They also appeared in flashback form in the episode "Mission: Save the Guardstar" and in still image cameo form at the end of the second Videoman episode (this time as a human that becomes a mutant) in the episode "The Education of a Superhero".
@dannytarver4533 According to Stan Lee, they were trying to find a timeslot for it the following television season (1989-90). Prometime was seemingly to be more and more likely. Hasbro was on board, ready to produce a toyline. The ongoing show would have featured a different team than the pilot. When I learned that a show was coming in '92, I expected it to be animated like this show but for it to begin with the 5-episode miniseries chronicling the original team's origin as had been planned.
@@WarriorSmurf the were also in the Origin of Iceman episode. But where were they in the Guardstar episode?
@jamesgreenwood3322 You are correct, sir. I got those two episodes mixed up. That was the episode that I was thinking of. For some reason, Guardstar popped up in my head instead, lol. The reason may be that because in both episodes, Iceman temporarily lost his powers (very briefly in "Guardstar" but much longer in "Origin of").
People can say what they want about the cheeseyness and dialouge of this pilot.... But that animation is much better than the revamped Fox Kids series...
Hey thanks for commenting. I appreciate the feedback! I completely agree. The Toei animation was awesome. Kinda reminds me of the G.I. Joe and Transformers animation. I really would’ve loved to see a series with this animation but with the variety of stories we got with the 92 series. It’s cool though that we can have discussion about this because for a lot of people this or the 92 series was their first exposure to the X-Men. I know if it wasn’t for my brother I wouldn’t have been exposed to the X-men till much later than I was. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
@@LapsedComicFan It's a pleasure, subscribed as well. Also on another note I started reading X-Men Comics heavily during the Jim Lee run. Call me crazy every time I read the books, I constantly imagined the art being animated in that same style while playing music from the arcade game. As far as the 92 series, the voice acting was incredible. It's just that art style and animation was a little bit underwhelming, and I know they switched/alternated animation studios in between certain episodes and even that got a bit worse imo. But the stories and the voiceover work is what stood out for me when it came to that show. Oh and that alternate anime styled intro and outro was nice, they should have used that for the entirety of the show.
@@mrmonte1975 I can say the 92 series voice acting wasn’t bad (just some of the voices I didn’t care for) but it definitely left a mark on me since that’s how I hear those characters in my head when I read them. I too love the Lee/Claremont run. I actually bought the Omni’s (was easier to get all the issues that way) and have read them a few times. I also love that alternate anime intro. Did you ever watch the Wolverine and X-men anime’s they did a while back? Those were pretty cool but weird at the same time to see the Japanese take on the team. If you haven’t they are free on UA-cam here. Here’s a link to X-Men episode 1: ua-cam.com/video/f1g701CDNw0/v-deo.html You can find a playlist if you just search X-men anime and Wolverine anime. Thanks for subbing and talking with me. Much appreciated
@@LapsedComicFan No problem at all. Much success to your channel.
