Did Center City’s boundary recently move south to Wharton?
It's been different after 2020, full of graffiti, drugs, etc. I live about 30 min out. It used to be a fun outing and now I'll do anything to avoid it
It depends where you live. Center city is relatively safe but north philly and south philly, depending on which part are very dangerous
I lived there for 17 years, right out of college. Loved it so much. I learned everything I could about it. I lived in Center City, then Germantown, then CC again. Worked at Temple then at a museum off Rittenhouse Square. Season tickets to the orchestra. I even gave architectural walking tours. Saw Queen Elizabeth during the Bicentennial. I only moved home to Boulder to take care of my mom. My 2nd home in my heart.
Thanks, Chris
This video is useful to me because I plan to move to Philadelphia. Thank you 🤩
I live in Philly and your video was still useful to me .. pls a map of all these area like center city divided into different areas
Cheaper. But then you have to worry about getting robbed
Fun to see 40% of the street videos being of my neighborhood. Having lived in Center City almost continuously since 1982, we use our car so infrequently that we have to write down where we park so we don’t forget. One topic the narrator doesn’t address is culture. I can walk to performances of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the main venue for touring Broadway shows within 15 minutes and the Philadelphia Museum of Art of the Barnes Collection within 30!
PHILLY POWER!
Pro tip: You cannot be afraid of black people and enjoy living in Philadelphia
GO BIRDS!!
1:00 as a fellow resident I wish I shared this perspective.
I'm coming for a one-month visit this fall. I'm working on my list. I will contact you beforehand because, at my age, I know exactly what I want, and the list of what is a waste of everyone's time is getting longer by the year. I'm currently living in Costa Rica. You'll need to fix the weather before you can expect to see me year-round. Thanks for the videos.
I’ll work on fixing the weather!
Also, Philly is a place where if you’re not from here we don’t mind if you don’t move here.
😂😂
Philly has a city wage tax which is brutal.
callowhill vs old city
Grew up in west Philly suburb my whole life. It’s amazing
I lived at 22nd and Lombard and later 17th and Pine. I loved both places. And Rittenhouse Square was my backyard.
Fairmount vs. University City
Well that will certainly be an interesting comparison! UC is very different than Fairmount!
Good videos, Chris. Realtor here. Toronto here. Similar size metro population in TO of around 6 million. Been to nearly all the big cities in the North East and Mid-Atlantic but never been to Philly. We hear about the bad stuff, but I agree that there seems to be a ton of overlooked good things there especially in the affordability department. Can't beat the regional location either, the ocean, DC, NY, are all close. Look forward to checking out Philadelphia in the not too distant future.
Thank you for content. There's not many YT creators who make videos about Philly. Regarding Rittenhouse Sq vs Washington Sq. Rittenhouse is the more lively square. There's always cool stuff happening. Vendors, artists, musicians, and all that. It attracts all walks of life. Very cosmopolitan. Washington Sq doesn't quite match it, but that might be a positive to some people. Not everyone wants a busy park. Some want it low-key, quiet. Even though I don't go to Washington Sq that much, I appreciate that it's there. I hope they keep it low-key. That is it's purpose.
Indeed. Nice summary. Thanks for your comment.
thank you for your content, it's highly valuable. i live in jersey city, nj (right across the Hudson river from downtown Manhattan) and have visited Philly earlier this year for a brief weekend getaway. i really enjoyed the vibes of the Rittenhouse Sq-City Hall portion of the city. and considering your rents are literally half the price where I live I am seriously considering Philly as a mid- to long-term relocation point
Think this would benefit from a more detailed profile of each neighborhood’s history. For example, Rittenhouse Square grew as an enclave of the city’s monied class in the mid to late 19th century, I.e. Drexels, Biddles. This was the social register neighborhood of the city’s “Old Money”. Graduate Hospital’s Christian Street was a street of Black American professionals in the early to mid 20th century. Fairmount in the 19th century had many breweries founded by German and Slavic immigrants.
Thumbnail is funny!
Containing the drug problem to Kensington IS the plan, the ONLY plan.
I lived there for eight years. I love that place.
I swear to god i heard Hitlers so many times
Are most people walking through this location living in the area? Or is there decent foot traffic in the neighborhood from people living outside of Fitler Square? Thank you for the video.
Most people walking in Fitler will be from Fitler or a nearby neighborhood like Rittenhouse or Grad Hospital with the biggest attraction being the Schuylkill River Park/ dog park/ Trail. This area does not get anywhere near the foot traffic of Rittenhouse.
OMG, Society Hill! What a gorgeous neighborhood/area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
City employees are the laziest of them all. Especially the streets dept (Trash Collection) and the PPD (Police). Taxes keep going up public services keep going down.
Awesome video
Nice views but I'd have to gut it
I think the major issue with Philadelphia is not crime, rather poverty. It has the highest poverty rate among any large city in North America. That has real consequences.
When I grow up I wanna move to Philly! But my wife wants to remain in Dallas until our teenager starts college. I need to be patient
Lol, I hear you! Take a trip up here and she may change her mind sooner :) Thank me later
How much?
This one was around $1M. They have 2 beds in the $700K range as well.
Well with the Murano you certainly can't complain about proximity to food shopping! lol
lol, right. Can't be more convenient !
3:07 i get the structual purpose of these beams, but why are there newly built buildings where they dont exist? Especially when yhe obstruct the view
I'm no structural engineer but my understanding is so they can get more floor to ceiling windows and this is one load bearing options that is viable.
Branch out to Passyunk dog
This is great. I’ve been looking for a series like this forever!! From the Philly suburbs and looking to move into the city after college and I’ve been seeking this kind of easily digestible information. Thank you!!
Glad you've found my channel helpful!
Philadelphia is like any major city in the U.S. Mind your business, don't talk to strangers, no eye contact. Don't say hi to anyone on the street unless you know them. Pretty basic rules to live by. Driving here is challenging as well, ALWAYS look out for the other guy! You should be alright. If you willingly move to a bad neighborhood, that's YOUR fault! Always do research before you move anywhere! Nine times out of ten people who cannot move out of bad neighborhoods cannot afford to live elsewhere
near minimum wage = near minimum effort - this is true in every city As for #2, it would be nice if more firms moved into the city instead of placing themselves literally as close to the city limits as possible just to avoid taxes. Then less people would need their cars and less people on the road = a better experience
I grew up on 16th in Ritner in South Philadelphia. Though It's a working class area. It's safer than any neighborhood that you mention on your channel.
Indeed, there is that little pocket in South Philly that has very low crime rates between Broad and Passyunk.
@livingincentercity Actually, my neighborhood is between West Passyunk & Packer, Broad & 25th( which includes Gerard Estate). But East Pass is great all the way down to Oregon & West of 7th in parts. And you can't forget about 2 street. Thanks for the content....
I got dizzy from the movment of the views.
Logan Sq is beautiful but I find it odd that it's basically just a big traffic circle. It isn't like Rittenhouse or Washington Sq. It's a roundabout. There's a lot of great schools, government, art & science buildings, etc... It's a nice place for sure!
It is a bit different for sure. Neat vibe but it's not for everyone.
Fitler Square is nice !
Don't move to Philadelphia it's a shyt hole.
What city do you reside in buddy?
@@WetMonkey697 I don't live in sh!ty Philadelphia anywhere

Very informative with great video !
Glad it was helpful!
It has transportation. Some buses run 24 hrs. Everything is walkable in philadelphia. You really don't need a car
