hii i’m lauryn i read quite a few books, and i thought i’d post my thoughts on them. so, i’m starting with the #booktubenewbietag thanks for watching!
Wow thats one sad looking Monsterra 😢
I loved Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead! One of the best books I read this year! Thanks for the great video 📚
Do you read books your viewers suggest?
i love getting recommendations!
@ryn.reading Reply me if you see this comment: "End of Women: How Smashing the Patriarchy Has Destroyed Us" by Carrie Gress
Thank you for the recommendations. I also love to read sad books and listen to sad music because it weirdly brings me comfort.
Love vlogs and loved this one!
You'll probably hate this comment more than loneliness itself but you sort of look like a young Ayn Rand. The algorithm must agree with me in a way because in the right margin of stacked videos for this one there is one of her at the top. Then again, Ryn and Ayn are fairly close. Anyway...
I enjoyed this format♥️
This is wonderful video. Thank you.
I love your vlog style. You and I have similar taste in books as well, so I'm very interested in what you say about them.
The algorithm knows me, man. :-) Of course I don't need a book on loneliness. I'm in the movie.
Just Binge Watched 3 of your videos. You & I have kinda similar taste in books.... Keep Uploading More! 🔥👀✨
Most of the books you mentioned I read or own. This means we have a very similar taste in books. I'm glad to find your channel.
Good list. "Ladies' Man" by Richard Price is brutal in this respect. And the short story collection "The Pugilist at Rest" by Thom Jones has this theme throughout. And then the obvious "Catcher in the Rye" and "Robinson Crusoe."
Please be careful not to mention spoilers without a warning. I recently started reading My Dark Vanessa after seeing it recommended in several BookTube videos, but none of them mentioned what you brought up. 📚✨ 🙏🏻🫶🏻
Reviews and recommendations are generally bad place for spoilers. These belong to videos discussing specific novel.
your taste is beautiful and I love your approach to art...I think we would be such good friends haha that sounds weird but oh well..
parable of the sower by octavia e butler could fit in that category i believe.
i haven’t read this one but from what i’ve heard about i agree!
I hope wherever you're, you're happy 🖤
Off the top of my head I would say One hundred years of solitude and The book of disquiet are the two books that encapsulate perfectly loneliness in very different ways to me ! Thank you for the video ❤
ooh good ones! i haven’t read them but they’re both on my tbr!
I just bought the Joan Didion book you mentioned, I’m nervous and excited for it.
I really enjoy the way you explain & review the books you chose. I have read Braiding Sweetgrass & Elena knows, and your insights were just how I felt when I read them! I'm waiting for I who have never known men on hold at Library, look forward to it. I've tried the other two on audio, but couldn't get on with them , but have wanted to try physical book. I think I'd enjoy both, and your review gives me that nudge, so thanks! My sis has Parkinson's, and reading that book was like being in her body for awhile. Her life really does revolve around those dang pills! Glad you started your channel :)
ty! your comment means the world to me! station eleven was a bit slow for me to get into so it might not be for everyone. hope you enjoy i who have never known men and that your sis is doing well <3
I put off reading Stoner for so long and now it has become one of my favorite books.
Really enjoyed this review/list ❤❤
It seems like you’re more into fiction than nonfiction and I’ve found that this year I’ve gravitated more to non fiction. Would you consider making a video on your favorite non fiction books? I tend to be a mood reader in that when I’m hyper fixated on a topic I tend to want to read books on that topic. Right now I’m really into Saturday Night Live and bought two books on it. Do you find yourself making TBR lists or do you mainly read by mood? Love your videos!
Something I just thought of is the loneliness of a book like The Catcher in the Rye where Holden, in the wake of a trauma and sense of failure, seems lost wandering around NYC trying to find some kind of purpose. I think we’re all trying to find our meaning and purpose in the world every day so it’s fascinating to read how people go about that
thank you! it means so much that you like my videos! i’m definitely more into fiction but i’ve actually been reading more nonfiction this year. mostly essays and memoirs. once i have a solid list of recs, i definitely want to make a video! i’m also a mood reader! i used to make monthly tbrs but they’re a bit limiting. snl is a cool topic to read about
i haven’t read catcher in the rye in a while but i totally agree!
@ryn.reading felt inspired recently to make a booktube channel so if you’d like to hear me gush about snl for 20 minutes this is the ticket ua-cam.com/video/Csz5ONPKnAg/v-deo.htmlsi=jddOpaJRG27miQiP
i really love finding books that have a similar theme to them. any specific themes you guys would want me to make a future video on?
Unhinged characters, eg those in the books of Ottessa Moshfegh and Mona Awad. I find it fascinating to see how so many of these types of books are in the mainstream. I definitely need to read more!
maybe campus novels but not just dark academia, i want books about collage experience, fitting in, transitional phases, finding yourself you know
@dohabeshir9405 have you read The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides? It’s a college novel that’s not dark academia and I think sort of more of what you’re talking about
@@CoolcatzCorner never heard of it but thanks I'll check it out !
I loved the writing in Stoner, but I agree with you in that I was frustrated by Stoner’s passivity. Such a slow read which kept reeled me in from the first pages. Definitely a book I would recommend.
Girl, I just stumbled on your channel and I can't hear you. I blasted the volume of my laptop to the max and I only got like 50% of what your were saying. I mainly looked at the books.
The volume is fine on my end. Check your computer.
😍
as a French girl my favorite Ernaux is A Girl’s Story, which I also found to be profoundly relatable. And the other one I would definitely suggest if you’re beginning with Ernaux is Happening!! her absolute classic in my opinion. Love that you read her :))
those are the two at the top of my list! glad to know you liked them :)
Did u knit urself?...if not, then why?
i did knit it myself! :)
Stoner has been on my list since 2021 - I know whenever I get to it I will adore it too! I also have a tough time expressing what I want to get across about some books. Sometimes hearing someone say, "just read it," is all we need!
@@christinehopkinsconnelly5726 i have books like that too where i haven’t read them but i just know i’ll love them! sometimes a book needs to marinate a bit haha
good luck with your fall tbr 🧡🍂
I'm glad we share similar thoughts to Stoner
I'd be interested to know what your favourite quote is from Stoner. I love that book and I'm sure people can avoid opening the replies if they want to avoid spoilers
@@shrewnaldo it’s at the end when he’s going up to Finch’s office to resign. It says “He stood at the stairs that led up to the second floor; the steps were marble, and in their precise centers were gentle troughs worn smooth by decades of footsteps going up and down.” It connects so perfectly to the line at the beginning when Stoners first at school - “Shuffling footsteps hissed upon the floors, and a murmur of voices muted by the great expanse of the hall; dim figures moved slowly, mingling and parting; and the oppressive air gathered the smell of the oiled walls and wet odor of the woolen clothing. Stoner went up the smooth marble stairs to Archer Sloane’s second-floor office.” It’s just a beautiful way to show how long Stoner has lived there and how the school are slowly deteriorated over time.
@@ryn.reading that's great. I didn't spot the reference back. Love that.
Name of the Wind is my favorite book of all time and I’ve received many recommendations to read Will of Many. Because I guess if you love Name of the Wind, you’ll love the Will of Many? It’s definitely on my radar!
@@Thomas.R.Howell i just watched your review of it! i told myself i wasn’t gonna read name of wind cause idk if i can take an unfinished series but you might be changing my mind! love the idea that’s it’s more about the journey than the destination
@@ryn.reading That's amazing!!!
thank you for the recs! glad i found your channel <3
Love your style and vibe! I too go for the cozy casual style in my videos! I recently read Pet Sematary for the first time now I’m on Salem’s Lot. Two quite cozy and spooky reads!
could you please share your goodreads URL ?
here it is! www.goodreads.com/user/show/150933412
@@ryn.reading yay ! Now I can creep on your shelves 🤣
Is this an asmr video?? Cuz i feel like it is too quiet even on full volume??? Is it just my earphones? 😅
my mic just sucks haha
Hi Ryn...I met the author Emily Griffin and she signed her book to me and we took a photo together and I once met Guiada Laurentiis in person also and she signed her cookbook for me but no photo .By the way I saw a film by Madonna Ciccione on King Edward of England and Wallis Simpson as they danced in a scene to Henry Mancini's Lujon music.
Welcome! I'm a new book tuber myself!
Oh, a new book channel in my recommendations 😁 Subscribed!
Omg yt recommended tab is finally giving me good vids
Oooooo i love this concept ❤ i hope this picks up
Books and data? Love it! Do you usually read throughout the day or is there a specific time that you set aside to read?
Been enjoying your videos so far. If you're ok with some recommendations based on what you were saying about reading from as many other countries as possible, particularly South America, could I recommend a couple? For South America - it may be an obvious suggestion but I enjoyed Epitaph of a Small Winner by Machado de Assis (Brazilian author so would tick off Portuguese too). Also, leading on from your Swedish translation of the novel about the Sami people, I'd suggest Land of Snow and Ashes by Petra Rautiainen - a Finnish historical fiction novel based in Lapland covering the Nazi occupation and impact on the Sami community.
I loved these recommendations! The Will of the Many seems really interesting and I'm definitely going to check it out. It reminds me of the Red Rising saga which I really love. Have you read that series?
@@imrancharania thank you! i haven’t read red rising but ive heard it compared to the will of the many a lot. i’ll have to add it to my tbr!
Curious, have you read Fourth Wing? And what are your thoughts if you have?
@@ulquiorracifer5493 i haven’t! i don’t typically read romantasy but i’ve heard so many good things about fourth wing so i might have to pick it up! have you read it?
@@ryn.reading I will say this as nicely as possible. I wouldn't use those leaves to wipe my rump after a dookie. Worse book I've ever read. I audibly laughed out loud at how bad it was.
I'm glad I came across this video, this is insightful that is soothing and calming
@@urprettyrapstar that is so sweet thank you!!
@@ryn.reading I cant wait for the next vid! I subscribed my dear!
so easy to watch.
@@SuperLeslin thank you!
A lot of literary fiction. Is that your preference or is it just a coincidence you mostly read those?
@@XavierMorton i definitely read mostly literary fiction though i like to have a few a month that are different. what about you?
@@ryn.reading I read all kinds of things but mainly fiction. Recently finished my first epic fantasy now I'm reading some non-fiction philosophy.
