I’ll always wonder how it would have gone if saya did stay with him after returning his vision to normal? I can’t speak for Fuminori but judging by her Idw true appearance compared to to flesh monsters he saw in the visual novel I like to think there would have been hope for the two.

A couple of things. No one was pulled INTO the flesh realm, it's all in his head. Saya rapes and alters the DNA of Yoh to turn her into a creature that they rape together. The neighbor was lobotomized with Saya's tentacles to give him the same ailment. Lastly, Saya was not a creation, the doctor says that he made contact with an otherwordly being and that she's aking to a "drone"; Saya is just a part of some bigger species or creature, that is sent to alter the DNA of the native species to terraform the planet and reproduce.

So, if I'm understanding the synopsis correctly, Fumi is a self aware mentally insane college student who fell in love with an eldritch horror not of this world who also shares feelings for him. He tries to hide his symptoms from his therapist and friends to varying degrees of success until he finally snaps and either gets fixed, kills himself in depression, or lets humanity die for Saya. Damn, that's fucking sad. It's funny, 'Saya' means 'Me' in my home language. So, while I'm writing this, I occasionally misread my own comment as Fumi being in love with himself. Eldritch love story where the godlike being falls in love with it's own mortal shell? Hmmm, not a bad concept for a story actually...

Saya no Uta is probably, as I've said before, the closest we can get to a lovecraftian story as told through a visual novel. We even have the suspiciously well-armed scholar in the second half. Sure the endings have flaws, but I think they're both perfect.

I always liked that the characters were sprites of real people cosplaying, the design was and imo is still really cool

I think I'd like your ending but instead of getting caught, he escapes with saya, still crashes into something though because of all the fear and adrenaline. He gets badly wounded and calls for saya but she doesn't reply. He's dizzy but his vision begins to clear up, and he looks around to see a normal world, trees, stars and feels a gentle breeze. The air smells nice. He's overwhelmed by joy and as he's losing strength and passing out from his wounds, saya approaches and he sees her true horrible form (but she's hidden from the audience so we still have to imagine her horror). She can tell there's fear in his eyes so she embraces him and makes love to him. His last dying moments of clarity are consumed by a monster and he realizes what he's done to his friends. He cries out begging for forgiveness until he passes away.

"some doomer shit" my guy, my dear sweet guy, "doomer shit", "hollow", and "dismal" is literally the main point of what cosmic horror is all about. COSMIC HORROR IS SOME DOOMER SHIT.

I think your idea of a Fuminori ending is interesting, considering how the story began with a car accident - makes me think of an interesting bookend where Fumi dies in a car crash, leaving Saya alone. Maybe Fumi hallucinates about going to Heaven with Saya before he passes away, with the fate of Saya being unknown. I don’t mind the original Fumi ending, but it’s fun to think about alternative ending scenarios.

Great video! Spoilers: What I would have done is add another ending in which fuminori actually opened up to the beasts and slowly worked with them to slay saya. Sure it’s lame but I feel like that would take away the bad taste of fuminori and saya’s ending. It would be great if in order to unlock it you had to first get the other two endings. I would have also modified that one. Instead of the crazy ascend ending, I would have made it so that after killing his friend, fuminori just became so obsessed with saya, that he stopped eating or doing anything but be with saya until he eventually died. Saya after learning about the human emotion of love, would kill herself. I feel like that would make it less out of place and would have made me like them more

I find myself sticking to the main character no matter what. And in saya no uta, that did not change. No matter how deranged or twisted, I will still wish for their victory. So I quite enjoyed the meat world ending lol. Phenomenal game

I forgot how impactful Koji's ending felt in this VN. I love the psycho eyes the doctor gives Fujimori as she blasts Saya to pieces! Though, I'm also a big fan of the Saya ending. She achieved her purpose only because she successfully nurtured the love inside of Fujimori. He became a monster for her and they both created a world full of flesh and gore for their children. I personally find martyrdom overrated, so seeing his unwavering loyalty bring about the destruction of mankind for the one that stood by him AND understood his pain felt perfect!

Cool video! But now I cannot get rid my head of an idea for a wholesome alternative universe, where the set up is the same and Saya is still a lovecraftian horror, but she's a certified live-in nurse lovecraftian horror lololol Instead of having codepended relationship with Fuminori she actually helps him dealing with everyday life, encourages him to be honest with his doctor etc. There's some backstory about how she always wanted to help people but couldn't because of her appearance (it's not explained though how the hell did she get her certificate). It ends with Fuminori getting a brain surgery and returnng to normal life. Saya is certain that he's going to be disgusted with her now that he can see ho she really looks but he's grateful for how much she helped him. They stay friends and keep in touch. Everybody claps

Mk3 endings were So cool, i just hated how we never got the same endings in any other platform.. the arcade endings were just perfect

I actually liked very much your redo of Fuminori wins, I love and hate this story so much, like I love the core concepts, but man all these ideas were just wasted in a dissapointing way... I felt it was rushed in more than one moment, and sorry but no matter how much Fuminori suffered, when he r***ed a human looking Yoh thats when it crossed the line. Like I cant see him morally grey anymore, for me this game has so much potential, but when he decided to go all monster I couldnt gave less of a crap if he and Saya didnt ended happily ever after...
