September 2, 2018 Midge Hatch in Tranquil channel
Переглядів 1216 років тому
Coming home after dark I ran into this midge hatch. It’s been going on for three weeks. Walleyes, perch and birds are feeding heavily on them. Many boats from Canada and Minnesota are seen fishing the mud flats south of Tranquil for fish that are feeding on the emerging insects. Walleye sauger and perch bellies are full of chironomids when you clean them.

I was down at camp And a big turtle 40 pounds looked like it was mating with a smaller 15-20 pounder. Then another 40 came in and fought on and off for the next 5 hours. They are now both resting in shallow water. Enjoy the fight. Al Smith Smithcamps.

The pike took a powerful run and almost pulled Stephanie out of the boat. Lol.

A new feature on my phone. It compiles fun videos. Oh and the model 29 Smith on my side is legal. A young male bear bluff charged my wife that day. And I have the Wilderness Handgun permits to carry on the trapline (I live on the trapline) and for protection when dealing with threatening bears. 90% of the time it is adolescent males.

On a guide trip yesterday we saw a big healthy sow with 3 cubs. Actually the cubs were up a white spruce tree 🌲 and didn't see them until we were leaving. Next post.
Great day with new guests.

Another Typical Day At Smith Camps!
Bro go help or call the zoo keeper 😂😂
huge whitey
This video has hardly any views yet total garbage goes viral 🙄
Turtles have the most difficult mating rituals!
Nice work!! Those are nice sized whitefish.
That’s the old purple spade pee pee dance not a fight
I told you not to eat my doritos!
What's wrong with u
"I told you not to take my last slice of pizza!"
U ruined the vid
Mating
Nicely done
Missed step 1, bleed them.
I clean them exactly like you except I use a electric knife! Excellent job!
Can you explain why you gutted the fish and then filleted it? Why the extra step?
Often I gut a fish before filleting it to remove roe or dissect what is in the gut.
@@smithcamps3688 Ah, ok. Thank you :)
@@thetroutking_1 Hey Trout King, we have a Guest we call the Trout King. Harold McAlpine and wife Bobbie chase Lake Trout from Lake of the Woods to ALaska they travel as much as 11,000 miles a year spending as much as $2500.00 a year on fishing licenses. They use SmithCamps Critter Coating fish fry coating and it is their favorite fry coating.
dude, you probably killed that gorgeous turtle by picking it up by it's tail...ill educated people like you should be banned from handling wildlife!!!
This is by far the BEST pike deboning video I've ever seen. This is the way that I learned to debone pike. I really wish I could delete %95 of UA-cam Pike deboning videos that waste a tonne of meat & over complicate it with unnecessary cuts. I've watched this video many times and still enjoy it.
Every day on Lake of the Woods is a great day!
No fear.
Steph is the best fisherwoman going.
Hope they open the damn border so you can do that again.
Just a little guy but always fun to put the sneak on critters.
So you don't flip it over and carve out the "mudline", the dark streak on the skin side.
Hi Gerry, You sure can carve out the mud line if it is to strong for you. Our whitefish are very clean and I dont find the mudline a problem. I have removed it if my wife is making chowder as she feels it is a little strong sometimes. Most of our whitefish is smoked with skin on so as long as the brine penetrates to the skin I enjoy the oil in the mud line. Cheers Al Smith
Thanks for your reply. I fish Simcoe and have always removed mud line on both whiteys and Lakers . Great video. Exactly the way I do mine. Keep catch n fileting
Actually the light colored one was mating with a smaller one and the dark one came up from below and rammed the female and scared her off, and the fight began. the light colored one even got a front toe bit off
Good eye' they are so aggressive but when it comes to mating they're on another level and are such assholes to the female
You saw all of that in THIS video?
@@Menibor1 yes but I didn’t catch it all on this video.
@@Menibor1 if you look at the names of the two accounts it'll get easier to put all that together there bub
@@jaybiddy955 I got a response from the guy who runs the channel....thanks anyways for trying to be helpful chief
There just having fun
Correction their probably and most certainly mating they lock shells and spin
And that does look like a Male and female
Normally I render the fish unconscious then bleed them, but because I put the fish on ice immediately when caught the floppy nerves stay active for a long time.
I subscribe but very soon unsubscribe. Filleting fish alive obviously, shows not only cruelty but also incompetence. And that disgusting black glove is the icing on the puke cake !!!!!!!!! ALL GROSS.
Before you unsubscribe Please send me orange gloves. I'm almost out of black.
👈👉 who will win?
Well I will say the big light colored one got a front toe bit off
Did u put him back??
Yes we did.
Very good. thank you for making a great video sir!!!
Thank you Dave, There are ways that are faster But We always get the highest yield. Carving around the rib cage works and doesn't open the gut. We have never had a problem in 50 years and we think our way is best for a line of 3 or more cutters when we get a couple hundred pounds of walleye at a time to fillet.
Best walleye fillet video i have seen on youtube yet.
Nice video. Excellent demonstration on how to fillet a Walleye. By the way, where's Joe ? Didn't see him give his high accolades like he did in the Pike video.
Hes in Colorado and will be back if the US border opens.
Go turlesorus GO!!!
Thank you all for your nice comments. In 50 years in the tourism business.I have learned many ways to skin a Walleye. This works easiest for me. I actually cut my thumbnail to allow me to grip a fish skin even with a glove on.
Waste not, want not. Perfect job well done sir.
that poor little guy. i just want to hug him and love him. Leave him alone, big bully
Ha Ha if you want to hug and love a snapping turtle I heard they like to french kiss. Good Luck
Did you watch the video and see the little one get jealous and attack while they other one was mating. The big one defended himself
They’re mating.
Thank you all for your great comments. Respect for the resource is what we need to ensure a sustainable harvest for years to come. Waste should be avoided if at all possible.
You are the only person on youtube that wasted very little fish ! Exceptional Job !! I absolutely hate to see peope just waste the fish over a small amount of bones !!
The knife used is a Normark presentation 7.5" an old favorite
Watched a lot of video on this same method...but...your removal of the Pin-Bones only takes out rice paper thin strip of meat...Thank. BTW, what brand of knife is that. Thank you again.
Go Squirtle!!!!
What was the knife you were using?
Normark Presentation model 7" blade
Awesome eating fish...just ate one today...need to practice my fillet skills though..lol
There mating not fighting
Nope The small one was mating with another and the big one came along and rammed them from underneath. The female left in a hurry and the fight began.
No they fighting
The way I find the bones in all the species of fish I deal with is using your knife gently scrape the fillet from head to tail removing the blood so you can get a visual of the bones. They look like little white dots. run your finger tip gently over the dots and you should feel them. Remember the bones you are removing are no wider than your knife blade and thats how wide your cut should be. pin bones run to the skin. cut gently enough so you do not cut through the skin.taper both cuts so that the cuts meet under the bones at the skin and you can then lift the thin strip out. many chefs use a hemostat or suitable pliers and pluck the bones individually. Problem is on very fresh fish often you will rip the fish flesh. Plus it takes a lot longer. Good luck! Tight lines and Straight Shootin!
Experience clearly shows in this vid. That’s a heck of a fish. I’ve recently started targeting whitefish and plan to keep some occasionally. I’d like to avoid wasting as much as I can. I am curious how easy it is to locate and remove the pin bones. You make it look easy, I have a feeling that might not be true. Thank you for this demo.
Lots of Walleye vids on UA-cam. Yours is by far the best method so far
Thank you!
Had him in the dryer drum on the beach and someone let it go. I saw a 15lb snapper keeping an eye on the beach one day and we saw another baby turtle heading to the water and I think the bigger turtle was trying to intercept the little hatchlings as they tried to get to the lake for the first time in their lives. We relocated the big turtle. We used turtle soup and stew even Gumbo. but the new law forbids us to harvest snapping turtles. Winnie Duplechene from Louisiana said I cleaned a snapping turtle better that anyone she ever met. The ultimate complement from a true Cajun. Bless her Heart!
What became of the little guy ?
