The upcoming full Moon on Monday, January 13, 2025, is traditionally known as the “Wolf Moon.” This name originates from the howling of wolves during the winter months, a behavior that was notably observed during this time of year. 
It will appear full from Sunday evening through Wednesday morning, providing multiple opportunities for observation. 
Additionally, this full Moon coincides with a rare astronomical event: the Moon will occult Mars, meaning it will pass in front of the planet, causing Mars to temporarily disappear from view. This phenomenon will be observable in many parts of the world, including the United States, starting after sundown on January 13 and lasting until early morning on January 14. No special equipment is needed to witness this event, though clear skies and a dark viewing area will enhance the experience. 
For the best viewing experience of the Wolf Moon and the Mars occultation, find a location with minimal light pollution and an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon.
