His first and only major before he died
such a shame. his female pilot did not check the gas gauge before leaving the ground. inexcusable, i think. what do u think
Her excitement to fly Tony caused her to not only miss checking the gas, she had a doctor friend as a co-pilot. They all lost their lives. We lost one of Golf True Ambassadors of the game.
Hi, like nearly all plane crashes, this was so so ridiculous and unnecessary.
She filled it up at the start, before she flew from joliet Illinois to pick him up in Akron Ohio (when Lema found out it was a female pilot, he didn't want to go, but was talked into it). Her problem was that she overestimated the range on her plane, and she didn't gas up when she arrived to pick up Lema, when she easily could have. She had 700 multi engine hours, but only 15 hours in the make and model of the plane that crashed.
@@markdavis9148 That's so awful. Even after all these years, the easy avoidability of his death is so so sad.
There were a number of Bay Area golfers who rose to fame, but none were greater than Tony.
Im a huge fan of Tony. Thanks for this video!
His pitch and run approach was a real touch of class and a nod to links golf.
Great player, greater gentleman. The wonderful, unique, Tony.

IXXI - Wonderful. EVERY golfer should know about and appreciate that beautiful player and wonderful gentleman Tony Lema.
What a massively talented guy. I was only young at the time but i remember the tragedy surrounding his his death. And, i remember his open win at Saint Andrews. Tony Lema's swing is terrific - the lag, power he generates. A privelidge to watch it here. Thank you for posting.
