The Battle of the Baldies - Adam's Thoughts On The Justin Rigney, Bart Bellon & Larry Krohn Drama
It's THE BATTLE OF THE BALDIES!!! Justin Rigney vs. Bart Bellon vs. Larry Krohn!!!
Three mugs only a mother could love.
I haven't seen this much head since I took my ex-wife shopping for a new wig.
Drama in the dog training world = eyeballs and you know I'm not below exploiting it to my own advantage. And I gotta tell ya-- Creating the thumbnail for this video was a lot of fun!!
I actually love all three of these guys and you probably do too.
But don't get distracted by the drama. Stay focused on your goals: To grow your dog training business, to help more dog owners and to save more dogs.
The rest is all bullshit.
Bonus Tip: If your FB Ads are showing, "Creative Limited" -- you can most likely ignore it if the rest of your metrics are on-point.

This Cell Phone Feature Gets Dog Trainers Tons Of Clients!!
So refreshing to hear a successful business business strategy that’s not based around B&Ts.. kick ass
Eric is the best! He has explained his business model a couple of times personally over the phone. (He is such a gentleman!). My question is always: How long will it take to build the business up to 80 clients per month? It’s so scary to me to go from the higher priced one-to-one plus groups in a park-to a paid location with high overhead and low fees coming in. I would love to hear how Eric hit the ground running-and how long it took to scale up to a livable cash flow?
I subscribed, that was really good and useful information, thank you. I recently hired a marketing company in Germantown Maryland to build a website for me beard turns out the guy was a con artist in India I did not read the reviews I just trusted him. I actually met him when he was doing outbound sales calls and it happened to be right at the time when I was making the decision to transition from just doing custom in home which is not really desirous in my region to doing board and train. I'm in the wealthiest County Montgomery County, in Texas and the wealthiest part of it and these people are not interested in learning how to train their own dogs which is how I was taught by the American Kennel club. I'm a former evaluator. They would much rather spend $4,000 for their dog to learn 6 to 8 which is obscene in my opinion. I teach 30 commands in 30 days I don't know who can't do that it's a whole day for each command. And then you reinforce them each day for 30 days multiple multiple times per day. I only take one client per month and I normally work 4 to 12 hours with that dog each day I also use a demo dog a service dog to demonstrate commands to both the owners and the dogs; the military has been doing it for decades. I also never trained or at least not past the first day or two, any dog exclusively in a big green field somewhere. There's no distraction in a Big Green Field somewhere. LOL! So I trained pet dogs at Lowe's or Home Depot where it's climate controls and I can socialize with other people and other dogs in commercial real estate . I also trained PTSD service dogs by train those in Kroger and Walmart. I can't train pet dogs there, but I can train service dogs their. If a dog can perform OnPoint at a Walmart a dog can perform on point anywhere. Take one of those dogs that's been trained in a big green field and see how it does in a Walmart! Lol! Not very well. I trained all dogs the same whether they are service or pet dogs. I don't like to switch gears and give someone subpar training. I keep telling potential clients hey if the trainer has 10 or 12 Dogs on property all the time that a client dogs then how much time and attention is he spending on your dog there's only so many hours in the day right? Lol! They seem to frequently think that I'm lying about 30 Commands in 30 days. Because the plethora of incompetent lazy dog trainers out there have them sold on that's the max that can be done. An average dog can learn 150 words and a smart dog can learn up to 250 words. Each word can be a command or a command modifier. So there's really hardly a limit on how many commands a dog can learn. As long as you teach them one at a time you're fine. And using a demo dog vastly expedites the training process for both people and dogs. My pro tip? Lol! Also I always teach my clients a system I developed called walk training whereby they run through all the dogs commands as they go out on a walk so that the dog stays Frosty and the person develops muscle memory good if you don't have muscle memory you'll never be a good dog handler. That and I try and leave them with the philosophy that dog training is a journey and never a destination. You can call it a hobby you can call it a way of life, but the minute you and your dog stop training is the minute your dog starts losing what it has in going back to zero. Just saying. Nobody else bothers in my area to teach the clients anything at all about the commands they don't give a s*** they have their money and the dog is out the door whatever happens is on the owner what inevitably happens is the dog's back at zero within 3 to 4 months and they've wasted $4,000. On 6-8 measly, weasley commands. I think I'm going to try and get a business loan I was going to try and upgrade everything piecemeal here so that I can do board and train at my house but I'll never get there I'll die first. I have 470 lb of rescue dogs here that I have to come up with 15 lb of food flea meds and heartworm meds everyday for. I'm going to take a lean against the value of my house. It's pretty damn spooky. The biggest problem I see it with the dog training businesses that small businesses rely on repeat customers for 85% of their business right? That is the stat. We don't have any damn repeat business. Or rarely if ever. Sometimes old client will call me and say that they got a new dog or a client will call me and say that they want to learn how to use an e-collar but those are vastly the exceptions to the rule. That leaves dog trainers at a huge disadvantage to any other business.
Did you say 25 bucks a week to daycare a dog. Its 30 plus per day we live.
Oh hey- thanks for the reminder about FB ads forgot about that!
Ok, hows this?: "Is your habituation to your dog's issues with predatory drift causing you to experience learned helplessness?? I'll help your dog to generalize their new skills to any environment using the 3 Ds, and HEY- those days of spontaneous recovery and extinction bursts will be a thing of the past!!!" No? Ok, I'll keep working on it. 😁😁🤓
I've always noticed that about dogs of homeless people too!! And I've definitely thought the exact same thing- it's because they're with someone all day!!! I'd also add to that: they're outside all the time so that's their more natural environment, but a huge factor I'm sure, is that they get to constantly be SMELLING things and people so underestimate how important that is in dogs being calmer/more fullfilled/relaxed. They're also less bored because they have more visual stimulation all day as well and are generally desensitized to all kinds of stimuli like motorcycles, skateboards, different types of people, sounds, etc. Definitely a lesson we can take from that and realize how important those things are to our dogs. 💗
Lol 23:19 had to replay that cuz I wasn't sure what I heard! 😂 My kinda guy 😆 Could you maybe elaborate a bit on why the "if you qualify" is a good feature? I assume it's to give the hint that she is likely pricey and that you will need to be serious about your investment...? Just checking. This was absolutely fantastic! What's perfect is that my style of site is very different from hers so I certainly wouldn't be copying it, but all of your POINTS were excellent reminders. I too am a dog trainer just launching my dog training biz and am very familiar with web design and SEO from other previous projects in my life. This was a great refresher though so thank you thank you!
It flips the script and creates scarcity. We want what we can't have.
@@katzonmarketing5254 aHA! Got it. Thanks!
While I am loving this idea of offering specific results instead of charging for pkgs or by the hour, I'm confused about one thing: You mentioned people having issues with paying a high amt of money per hour (as you sited in the example with "I don't even pay my doctor that much"). However, if I understand correctly, you give the client a set fee amt that they'll need to pay and tell them that it'll be about 3 hours. So... even with any additional benefits they'll still be doing the math there and see how that works out to a high hourly wage right? So I know I must be missing something here...... can you clarify? That would be great and thanks in advance!! 😊😊
The exposed guy part made me die laughing omfg. Thx for the great advice as always .
This was so helpful and very timely! Thank you! I just watched a video of yours from several years ago about joining Facebook groups for free advertising, but I quickly noticed that many of these groups are just business spam. This is a very helpful update!!
Excellent !
Great topic !
This is great
Great video! 😁
i had a board and train who was a pug/jack russell and I think was mentally challenged. It was the only dog I failed to train the basics. After she had been with us for 3 weeks she would sit with a treat lure. but never mastered anything else. She was told off by other dogs in the day care for getting in their face and never learned to read the signs. I had to remove her from day care for her own safety. She turned out to have a bunch of allergies as well. i returned all the money the owner has spent with me and she ended up just a cuddle bug with her humans and never getting off a leash as she had no recall or any skills at all. But she was a very happy dog always licking and wiggling.
I am actually looking into getting my license for pet insurance dogs are the new kids 2024
Here my arguement why you SHOULD include at minimum a price range or an hourly rate... if you don't or its not easy to find i will NOT be using you, point blank period. Additionally your wasting time on people who may not be able to afford your services.
I think you’re spot on with what you said here in the video! I recently discovered your channel and I’m binge listening to your videos. Great information. Thank you for doing these!
Great videos. Needed this
I’d like your help how can I reach you
What do you think about scent detection training?
Loved the idea. Have you found anybody doing it ?
If I don’t learn anything else the rest of this month this was great. I actually do the 3rd model and didn’t even know it and how to price it out. I will be adding this to my website that I’m mapping out how to create. Keep the videos coming because you’re giving out gold
Why don't I ever hear trainers talk about the advantage of training in the owner's home in that it's the environment where they are struggling with issues. You can train in a facility and then when they get home, that's completely different for the dog. Is there not an advantage in training in the environment where the owners are struggling?
Because if you teach the owner how to work with the dog, they will be able to get results for themselves wherever they are.
Thanks man!
Very good video!

Wow, you know nothing about Ivan Balabanov, including how to pronounce his name. Ivan has never interviewed Zak because Zak won't accept his invitation to have a conversation. As far as who Ivan has interviewed on his podcast, maybe you should have looked at any or all of his other guests. Many, if not most, of his guests you personally have probably never heard of and don't even have You Tube channels from which to steal subscribers or viewers from. A lot of Ivan's guests are researchers, scientists, behaviorists, top competitors in dog sports of all kinds. Anyway, this is obviously your opinion, and maybe you're using his name in order to promote your channel?
He clearly is and you tube should not allow people to use names in the title of your podcast , is too easy . I feel my brain just colapse listen to this moster . Such a bad person ! Incredible .
This is pure gold. Happens to me all the time, even when my dog isn’t in off-leash heel. People see the recalls and how calm/stable he is and come out to comment and ask “who trained him?!”
Sick logo
Sick in good way
Brilliant, Adam!
Adam, Does FB allow you to share posts from your business page onto your personal page?
I think so, but I'm not 100% sure.
As a balanced trainer, how do you over come their taking the position that the association of veterinary behavior insist and have studies that say, the only way to train, especially when different types of aggression are involved, is that they only use or recommend positive only methods to correct these issues? This is absolutely untrue, and dog owners dont have the time, patience, or dedicated commitment to spend weeks, months, or longer to fix their dog, especially with the liabilities these dogs cause, and when small children are involved? Time is of the essence, and these dogs are time bombs! They need results ASAP!
Counter with: It's the difference between text book veterinary medicine and real world veterinary medicine. But if they're committed to their position? Just walk away and go on to the next clinic. Personally, I've never had that issue.
I’m interested in learning if it’s a good idea to list pricing on the website so it’s later out for them to make it easier ?
I don't see why you are so against the DD. I think his methods work and are effective. I don't think that his methods are controversial.
I tried to watch that podcast and lost the will to live after about 6 minutes ! Ivan has the charisma of wallpaper paste ! 00.02
Dogging on someone not there to defend himself is not a good look.
Thank you for your input, Judy.
its only bout clicks and views ... no ethical considerations at all - very sad ...
yah,.. but.. doesn't matter how successful IB is... he is now using abuse of dogs to make $$....so, he is just as responsible for the abuse
Weird how you bash The Dog Daddy when he’s doing exactly what you suggest as the end.
No, what's weird is that you couldn't understand I wasn't bashing him for using the marketing technique but for being the Ali G of dog training.
@@katzonmarketing5254 So you don't like the way he dresses and that's why you call him a loser? You are kind of an asshole buddy.
@@katzonmarketing5254 What’s the difference?
"ambulance chasing"
Ivan did it to raise his own numbers. Other trainers who have platformed DD did it for the same reason. It's called piggy-backing/riding coattails. DD gets more views, which means he gets more money; trainers who platform him get more followers. Since when did dog training become about gaining followers/subscribers on internet social media sites instead of actually training dogs? I lost respect for Ivan when he joined the trend of platforming a known dog abuser. Just my opinion.
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
Ivan doesn't have near as many social media followers as DD. Therefore, if anyone is being platformed, it's Balabanov. Keep in mind, there are only about 500 people in the US that do IGP. Ivan is only well know to IGP. Personally, I believe that Ivan has noticed this fact is trying to branch out to new consumers.
I'm not sure if you didn't watch the whole video-- but I mentioned that.
This is so interesting! I will have to see if I can find that podcast! Thanks for the heads up!
Could I reach out to you? My family and I are passionate about setting up a family pet insurance business . To help each other save our pets. 😊
Great content, I enjoyed the part about the timeline and reinforcement.
Thank you! I needed to hear this lol! It was week 2 of my group class and were were working on the classic "watch" exercise. This time I was going around the room with a toy purposefully being a little distracting. Everyone was doing fantastic BTW! One owner was completely ignoring the exercise and when I asked him to try it, he snapped and said, well my dogs not going to pay attention when youre there distracting him!" well thats the whole point of being in this space and the exercise! learning to enage with the owner and work around distractions. He left the ring and sat out the rest of class and before I could ask him to rejoin for the rest of class he had already left.
