Us Orphanage kids would walk to the island overseen by Nuns on 4th of July and have cap gun shoot outs. We went there often on picnics. There' were pheasants and other birds in cages kept there. That was back in early 1950s. Those were wonderful years. I left the Orphanage in 54 when I was 13-1/2 and went to the Roman and Apples Wentland farm outside of Holdingford MN.

Nice video! A friend and I actually rode on bicycle on the trail a couple of times back around '93 or '94 when it was just a dirt trail. I don't think it was technically even open to the public yet, but we where mischievous children and didn't care. One time, there was a nice round mound of dirt on the trail and we used it as a jump. I think I've only gone once since it's been paved. I should really go for a walk down there again sometime.

I used to live near here when I was a teenager and the bridge was open. One day I was down there right after the ice had broken on the river. The pieces of ice were clinking against the rocks as they flowed down the river. The pieces of ice were crystal clear with holes through them and where making cool tinkling noises. It was beautiful and I have never seen anything like that again.
