Jeep XJ Fuel Gauge Reads Super Full - FIX
How to diagnose and fix a fuel gauge on a Jeep XJ that shows over-full. This Jeep is 1987 model, newer models may vary slightly.

How do you get one lead for the tester from from the trunk wire to under the Jeep where you disconnected that first connector they are not 30 ft long or the tan wire under the dash to the sending unit in the tank at the back to test continuity that is even further.
I have some 30ft retractable test leads from Harbor Freight that I use. They are 20 dollars and super handy for stuff like this.
I checked if I have power and it does on my Xj 89 maybe I was thinking it’s my Xj cluster
May 89 jeep Cherokee Laredo gas gauge is stuck on pass full. It was buried in the dirt to the axle's for 10yrs in Ark. i've had it for 2yrs and been working on it sense.

My gauge jumps up and down it works but when I accelerate it moves to full and when I stop it reads Intermittently? I replaced the fuel sender unit and it just reads full I’m lost bro

@@julianguzman7793 so it’s either one of two things.. the hanger/sending unit has a faulty connection at the fuel lever that touched intermittently or the harness has a brake in the ground circuit under the rear seat it runs Under the carpet and into the floor board threw a grommet due to vibration it cuts threw the insulator and causes a false ground contact causing the gauge to read falsely when you accelerate it moves and thus causing the reading
@@deadspeed6679 thank you for the info! I’ve changed the sending unit and it didn’t do a difference so now I will look into the ground wire hopefully that solves my fuel gauge inaccurate reading. Thanks!

Awesome video. My fuel guage failed last week This video is Super Helpful ! Im new to Jeeps, I have a 1987 Cheroker xj 2.5L 2 door. Question, under the dash driver side by my fuse block I have a connector dangling. Next to it is a similar connector that has a small square relay looking thing. Im I missing a relay ?
