10 Tips on How to Grow & Propagate Siam Tulip (Curcuma alismatifolia)
I will be sharing some general idea together with my personal experience with Siam Tulip (Curcuma alismatifolia)
Do check out 2 of my other earlier videos on this topic - Part 1

How to Grow a Siam Tulip - Part 2 (Curcuma alismatifolia)
ua-cam.com/video/bFYtAO2wbmE/v-deo.htmlsi=tMAxVKusvSAAF2M6
Few general matters - Siam Tulip is not a true tulip plant rather it is a turmeric plant family very closely related to a ginger plant. Identified botanically as Curcuma alismatifolia - this particular plant is very much cultivated as an ornament plant.
Native to the Northern region of Thailand, it does have some similarities like a temperate plant where it goes dormancy during winter period. This often happens when the plant is in full bloom and slowly die-back losing it's inflorescence and leaves - storing back all it's nutrients into it's rhizome for the next blooming cycle.
Other Plant Care factor where it really requires good bright indirect sun and well watering with good well drain potting medium. Do take note not to overwater during it's resting period as it can cause rotting rhizome.
The leaves may appear to be floppy and does require to be fastened to a support as it can easily bruised and damaged.
Other unique characteristics are the colors of the top crown which is not true flower petals - known as bracts, these hold like a cup where water is stored. Also there are true flower buds and constant flower blooms on daily basis. These blooms are in violet color.
This characteristic is very much similar like another ginger species known as Costus - where the flowers from the bracts

The Largest Rare Plants Collection in 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur Park Festival 2023 Garden Tour - Part 2 (Dome)
Hello from Cambodia! I'm so happy to find videos on plants similar to those in my garden. About 4 years ago a caladium spontaneously started growing in my garden. It was so pretty that I dug it up and put it in a pot. It is mostly bright pink and quite stunning when the sun is shining on it. Since then, I have divided it every time the pot got full, sharing with many of my friends. They are really beautiful plants, easy to grow, but they do need lots of water.
I just got two 5 gallon night jasmine plants and want to plant them in the yard. Does the plant need adyescent plants to support itself?
@@marianaantunano6730 No need Its already established. Just that Do check they are not suddenly exposed to direct sunlight immediately as it may shock n burned leaves. Slowly introduce it by changing the location from semi shade to tje desired location in a weeks time
Appreciated your honesty with regards to the challenges growing this plant
Added a little blood meal and fish fertilizer. Seems to be growing well but not gettingvthr big leaves yet . Thinking i may have a miniature type?
if only i could understand
What language do you understand?
@@TropicalGarden a few including english
Im sorry, I don't understand your question. Care to explain what you don't understand? Maybe I can explain it to you better?
Hi. Ok you mentioned the importance of of feeding your colocasia but dont recall you mentioning what you’re feeding them . Please tell us( me)🙏💋
Basically I use the tablet used for water lily or lotus but it is a bit expensive. However any fertiliser will do both organic or chemical types. Just use it lightly and observe if there are any burns on the leaves. If too many burned leaves at the edges means there is too much fertiliser in the pot.
Is it edible?
Technically yes. Similar like torch gingers. Also used as local cuisine in Thailand
You sound Malaysian or Singaporean. Where can I get this plant in Malaysia ?
Hi, Im Malaysian Its a bit rare to find in common nursery here. You need to get it from gardener or collectors who cultivate Jasmine as their plant collection
Thank you for this video. I have my Tuscany in a large pot. I give it banana peels. It is now 7’ tall.
That's great. Thanks for sharing
70% perlite wow that's a lot
Indeed.
My Royal Jasmine is growing tall and health, had lots of flowers . Now flowers are changing from white to purple colors. Is this normal?
Yes, its normal. The flowers have aged and slowly losing its pigmentation. Often happens more quickly on a rainy day.
According to you only one main trunk should be allowed and all other shoots rising from the ground be removed. True?
Yes This is true
Does the flower come after the dewdrops fall.
No Once its finished blooming It forms berries
Love your beautiful black Begonias! Thank you so much for all the tips!
Thank you for support and encouragement. Really appreciate it very much
Thank you
You are so welcome. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement
Hello how old was your rangoon in this video?
Technically I can say.. Plus minus about 5-6 years now
Cooper is toxic to these plants

Cooper is toxic to these plants
I think so - most likely all metal based materials
Beautiful

Thanks David ,it's very nice to see your information, I keep seeing you ,keep it up .
Thank you so much Singhpratap. Appreciate your support and encouragement very much
I learned so much from you this day thank you.
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. Really appreciate it very much ❤️
I have had 2 desert rose and both have gotten root rot and not from over watering Im pretty sure. The second one was going ok then I went to repot and there was a lot of root rot and sogginess. I have it in a new pot with new soil but its not showing any signs of being ok. It now has some more soft parts that I cut off but I feel its too far gone.
Hi, I suggest uproot the whole plant : 1) Wash properly - even the rootball 2) Let it dry in good sunlight for a day 3) Check the soggy and rot parts carefully 4) Trim / scrape the rotten parts 5) Apply anti fungal to the rotten part till it heals and dries off 6) Replant back carefully on the living root part. The plant is fully gone when the whole thing is rotten away, otherwise there is still hope to try to save it.
@@TropicalGarden Hi I did try and repot it after cutting off what I thought were rotten roots but I didnt let it dry out first. I didnt water it for a week hoping it would dry out in the soil. Should I take it out of the pot and dry it out and then pot it again?
@@AL-ru3nk Yes please You need to make sure fully the rot is clean n dried. Otherwise it can come back. Since you didn't water it, don't wash it. Carefully dig it out n check for rots. If none, plant it back. Only use light spray foliar fertiliser on the plant mix with root hormone for it to regenerate. It should work
@@TropicalGarden Thank you I will do that today. I am trying to propagate some of the stems I cut off earlier. Hopefully, they will take.
Do try to use rooting hormones like Vit B1 or seaweed solution. Those will force new root growth vigorously.
How often must one change the water? Fertilizer?
no need to change water - just add water Fertilizer - depends on the instruction given Most likely once or twice a month
Show pruning
Similar to Rangoon Creeper Vine - do check the video on hard pruning
Thank you James, from Paris, France !
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement.
Where to buy ?
Where are you located?
Can I ask something this is a hawk moth I found also around my room
Perhaps accidentally flew in. Use a broom and lift it out.
Mine still wont flower idk why
Prune down the branches and fertilise
@@TropicalGarden I think not enough sun I just moved it
@@shahesfelazi8549 Yes That could also be the cause
On a good note, this breed of moth actually pollinated my Desert Rose plant, and now I have 3 sets of seed pods, and no sight of the “moth”. I have propagated around 20 seedlings with more coming. My plant is outdoors so I’m keeping my eye out, hoping it does not come out of the soil and kill my beautiful 4 ft Desert Rose!
Thanks for the lovely note.
Have planted native hibiscus, yellow oleander, milk weed, ixora, calliandra, firecracker and tekoma on my terrace garden only to attract sunbirds. Yes they are coming everyday. Kolkata, India.
Thats amazing.. Thanks
Thanks for the information. Can I grow it in place where it receives 2-3 hours of direct sunlight. Will it bloom more there. Thanks
Yes I think the plant is versatile. It can handle it
Very well explained
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement
Where are the flowers
Not all begonias that grew in my garden have able to bear flowers
Where is the footage of it cured, replanted, and growing again?
Im sorry I'm not sure whether have given it away as I have too many of those in my garden and just kept one for keepsake. Will check and post the update - otherwise I'm afraid this video might be the only file I have those far.
@@TropicalGarden don’t be sorry. Consider the fact that those of us were looking for tips and tricks. Want to see the job completed. So hold onto the plant and still if it’s growing again then get some footage and post that so that people can see that your method works. Very few are doing that. And if you do it, it’s going to separate you from the rest of them.
@@PhD-JWT Thank you so much for your thoughts. Yes I think I would do that..
Great presentation, thank you. On the contrary with your presentation I do feed my airplants regularly using organic foliar fertilizer diluted until only ten percent of suggested concentration every 2 to 4 weeks. I always think it's a misconception only to depend on dust and air for airplants nutrition. In the wild they grow on trees under dense foliage, except for the desert origin ones, or the ones that prefer to live on rocks. In their habitat the water drooling from above is nutrient rich water from decomposition of leaves, bird poops, and other decomposed organic materials. Sometimes I give vitamin B1 and some organic based grow stimulant hormons (I actually do not know the benefit but I still give them), also highly diluted. I never dunk my airplants, or any other submerging watering methods. Not practical to me because I have quite many airplants, and I'm not patient enough with the drying process after submerging. Instead I mist them using electric sprayer that produces very fine droplets. I live in Indonesia which the climate is hot and humid like your country Malaysia. I check hygrometer reading before watering. If the humidity is 90% or above I don't mist them. If the high humidity persisted for days I give very ligh mist from far away every three or four days. If the humidity is 70-80% or above I give light mist. And if the humidity is 60% or less I give heavier mist with shorter distance to the plants. I also have many airplants placed indoor with grow light with the beam not directed directly to the plants. The room is well air conditioned and well air movement during the day, but the AC is off in the night. For indoor plants I give light mist every 3-4 days whatever the humidity reading, except for the "White velvety" ones like tectorum and oaxacana which I only water when they are very thirsty already. I fertilize the indoor plants more seldom, every 6-8 weeks with even more diluted fertilizer. I have some bulbosa which I put on my grid fish tank cover, very seldom water them unless they show signs of dehidration. The fish tank water evaporates quite quick and seems like the evaporation in enough for the bulbosas. I placed all my airplants in metal frames, both the ones outdoor and indoor with exception to the giant hildaes which I put in plastic pots with some charcoal bricks to stabilize them. I use copper free bonsai wires, mostly painted ones to ensure more the plants not have direct contact with the metal frames. For Spanish moss I mist them heavily twice a day unles they get showers of rain. Water is seem never enough for this plant.
Hi erryyunus2496, That is an indepth detailed information your care tips you have given here. I rarely fertilise my airplants now as its a rainy season now. Letting nature to do its work. Thank you - truly amazed at what you have shared your experiences and your method of growing. Also thanks for dropping by and giving me thoughts on this matter. Appreciate it very much
Hi I think I have sunbird nest in my balcony garden - can you help me identify? Let me know where I can send the picture
Sure Send me in my email : jasmissier@gmail.com
Can you plant them in a garden
Yes you can But eventually it might morph into something else depending on where you are located
Very good. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement ❤️
This Chaya plants is different from what we see in most other places
I guess there are 2 different varieties available
Thank you for all the helpful information. It is good to hear care info from someone who has had and cared for a plant for many years as you have!
Hi Sullivan, Im so glad to hear from you. Thanks for your support and encouragement. Really appreciate it very much ❤️
Does it need to be in full sunlight ? Or shade. The flowers are not that fragrant because they are in shade?
It needs bright light. It can be in shaded bright area too And it can tolerate full sun. Fragrance are time factors. Late nights and early mornings before the sunrise.
@TropicalGarden ok let check. It doesn't seem to give any fragrance at night
Try checking again at 1am
I live Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia ,very hot & tropical, I have mine in 8 hrs full sun . Standard, 4 years old , they have struggled & just waking up for spring Should I move them to a shadier position ? Maybe put them in pots ? What mix would u use ? I do fuss over them as u have just advised Love you content Thankyou
Hi Judy, @judyperkins4509 These are the factors you need to note 1) When you say they have struggled Meaning? Leaf and flower burns during the hot blazing day? The best option is Yes : Transfer to Semi Shade Indirect bright sunlight - it is like when you look up Its bright blue sky minus the burning sun. As for putting them in pots: I would suggest to propagate them and start a new set altogether Most more easy and won't stress out the mother plant as it has already established itself 4 years in your garden Regular Gardening Soil Mix that you may get for normal potting mix. Do not use the Aroid mix for Monstera, etc. All the best. Good luck
Well done! Thank you❤
Thank you for your support and encouragement ❤️
can I buy from u
