I'd say you brought out everything that radio has to offer. It actually sounded pretty solid through your test radio, though if mine, a noise canceling microphone would probably be next on the list.

I have never seen a 40 channel version of that radio before. I have had a few Pace radios, but they were not my fav. Glad to see another radio brought back to life.

Glue becomes acidic and will eat away the leads to the components. 😮

I think ALL radios need a tone knob. Adjusting tone to YOUR ear makes a big difference. Thanks for another video.

I have like 25 of these along with the 2600. Also 5 brand new Chipswitch upgrade CPU. My personal 2600 has Chipswitch serial number 123456 !!!

I have a HP 8640B with no RF output. The Power meter light does not turn on. The unit turns on but no RF output and no counter output movement when the internal frequency dial is turned. The power supply LEDs are and no -5.2VDC. I removed the RF Divider Filter Assemble and the -5.2 VDC is correct. Can you please provide suggestions on what is drawing the voltage down to 0VDC? The rectifier boards and filter caps are good. Al

I find them to be a bit too "tinny" for my ears. I feel the Goldfinger mod or some cap upgrades might help bring out some bass.

That is the first time I have run across that model. I will add it to my list of possible future purchases.

Thanks for tuning and adding the AMP!! I was not affected by Helene Hurricane, but running my truck up there to build roads back. The mountains make it harder to reach out on the radio on very narrow back roads and the amp should extend nicely.

Very sharp of people sending in NOS units guarantee they have leaky caps, drift or won't work long before a cap or even a resistor pops or worse from old caps

That radio has a more functionally correct, nicely organized front face than most of the new ones. You could actually call that one 'new' considering that it looks as new as any new radio.

I have the 639 which is the mobile version of the 642 which I also have. They are fine receiving radios but I haven't been able to make them loud talker's.

Chinese one is garbage stay away from those. Frequency unstable and their crap.

I have a 77-857 which keys at 5.5w and pushed around 25-30 PEP. i want to put a RFX95HD on the back. I've talked over 6 miles through dense woods and hills it sounds great. super clear.
