🙋‍♀️ Thanks for this, Kim and Kristen! Fascinating show, which hit several topics I’ve been reflecting on for a while. 1. Trauma response: many, many times as a child (say, ages 4-9 especially) I witnessed vicious verbal/emotional abuse of my mom by my dad. To this day (at age 58,) I find it very difficult to identify my own feelings of anger, or to experience them in any depth. Anger/irritation often comes through to me as sadness, which I’m all too adept at experiencing deeply. 🤦‍♀️ The show tonight helped me recognize how much progress I’ve made in recognizing this blind spot and feeling less uncomfortable expressing my anger on the rare occasions when I can feel it. The irony is that the area in which I most consistently feel anger is toward my father, for the way his abuse of my mom stunted my emotional development (not to mention my outrage at the injustice to my mom)…yet I have no idea whether/how to communicate this to him now, in his current context. 2. Boundaries: This show helped me recognize my tremendous progress over the past 3-4 decades in establishing boundaries with others. 3. Stimming vs. OCD repetitive behaviors: I’ve recently been learning about high masking autism in women, wondering whether this may explain many of my quirks. The contrast of ‘recentering the nervous system’ vs. ‘preventing a bad thing from happening’ was extremely helpful. There are certain things I get very anxious about, always - it just ‘feels wrong’ (*intensely* wrong) if they don’t conform to what I’m comfortable with. I feel out of control and unbalanced otherwise. Anyway, thanks again for a great show! 💐
