Gibraltar Range National Park Day 2 - Sunrise on the Haystack - Hiking and landscape photography
Hello everyone, and welcome back!
This is day two at Gibraltar Range National Park in New South Wales.
After a tough hike in and no sunset on Day 1, here I find myself scrambling to capture sunrise on this landscape photography adventure.
I was shooting with the Fujifilm G617 medium format panoramic camera, and some Fujifilm and Kodak films.
I truly hope you enjoy this video, as I really enjoyed both my time in the Gibraltar Range, as well as making these two videos!
As always, I appreciate and comments and questions you may have.
If you enjoyed this video, please remember to give it a thumbs up, and maybe subscribe to the channel if you haven't already.
Thanks so much for watching! I really do appreciate it.
Nathan :)

Hello my friends, Welcome back to the channel! In this video I make the trip down to Gibraltar Range National Park in the New England Tablelands area of New South Wales. It is a National Park that I have wanted to visit for a long time! It is a beautiful drive down from Brisbane via the inland route. I brought my Fujifilm G617 Panoramic medium format film camera and several rolls of film along ...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the channel! In this video I just went for an arvo walk near my house with the G617 Panorama camera and some Kodak Gold! I went down to a construction site and took a few photos, and then got a sunset surprise! Let me know what you think of this one. I generally prefer to get out into nature, but I also like to shoot urban from time to time! It was fun to jus...

Hello my friends, and welcome back to the channel. In this video the three of us, Leah, Hannah and myself, went for a family drive into the Scenic Rim. Hannah and I took some photos and Leah filmed our video! I took my Fujifilm G617 medium format panoramic camera and Hannah took her Olympus Pen EE-2 half frame camera. She was loaded with Ilford XP2 Super. I shot a roll of Rollei IR 400 and made...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the channel! I know it has been a while. In this video I do a very un-scientific investigation into whether sensor size really makes a huge difference in every day use! It's a digital rangefinder style body competition! I pit my Fujifilm GFX 50R heavy weight against the bantam weight Olympus Pen-F to see how noticeable the image quality difference is. There i...

Hello friends, Welcome back to the channel! This is the third instalment of my NZ videos, and, unfortunately, the last of the in the field videos from the trip. When I started out on this hike I wasn't planning on recording a video. Hello my friends and welcome back! In this video I head back to Girraween National Park here in Queensland. Andy and Bren joined me this time, and we did two nights remote camping in the park. Hello friends, and welcome back to the channel!! I'm very sorry that it has been so long since I uploaded a video. We went holidaying, plus life and work are just very busy lately. But here it is! Do you bracket and shoot all four frames on one scene or do you shoot a single shot and move to a new scene and shoot again?

    • @MeasuredLight
      @MeasuredLight 5 днів тому

      Thanks for watching, Craig. Mostly I shoot one frame and move on. If the conditions are tricky to meter, I will sometimes bracket, though. In this one I shot the same scene twice due to the changing light as the sun rose :)

    I enjoyed very much this video. I like the pictures you took. using films is expensive of course but so great when you see the photos. I like too panoramic frame. I use a Noblex 5x12 cm with Provia 100 f. it gives you an angle super Wilde. 146 degrees! just one question is it necessary to use the special grey Center filter on the fuji 617? one of your fan from France.

      @ducgerard2361 thanks so much for watching, as always, and for your kind words! The noblex sounds like a lot of fun! I don't use a centre ND filter at all. My camera didn't have one when I got it. Usually I only see some slight vignette if I'm using quite large aperture, but not a lot.

    One forget just how much works goes into taking just one shot. What is the cost of film and development these days..I got some old 120 film still in the fridge.

    • @MeasuredLight
      @MeasuredLight 24 дні тому

      @3goldfinger Thanks for watching! The average cost of developing and getting scans is about $30 per roll. Cost of purchasing fresh colour film is often $20-30 per roll. And B&W is probably about $15. I'm hoping to get back into developing B&W at home again soon.

    Looks like a fantastic place! Velvia 50 was always my favourite back in my film days...its probably too much for other places, but so good for the Australian landscape - really helps to show all the subtle tones. Love all the colours and textures of the rocks, and I think your first comp is a winner! Hope you're doing well Nathan!

      @LisaFrostPhoto thanks so much Lisa!! Yeah, I am a big fan of Velvia 50! It's a shame I can't get it developed by Matt at Indro haha. The predictable light from the cloud cover made it easy in this instance. I prefer the way the rock is separated in the first composition. But the. I like having aome background bush in the second haha. I'd pick the first, though :) Life is really busy at the moment, but at least I'm not bored haha. I hope you're doing well too!

      @3goldfinger Most of my C41 film is done at a local camera store/film lab. And I have to send my E6 away for development. I have been using Ikigai Film Lab in Melbourne for E6 (and sometimes C41) for a while. Yeah, this camera is a monster. But I love it!!

    Great video!! It really give me ideas for places to shoot near my neighbour. Just one question, why did you apply reciprocity to the exposure time? Is it due to the longer format?

    • @MeasuredLight
      @MeasuredLight 2 місяці тому

      Thank you so much for watching, and thanks for the comment. I added extra exposure time for reciprocity failure due to the exposure times being longer than 1 second. Kodak don't seem to have any info on exposure correction for Gold 200, but being a "consumer" grade film I tend to err on the side of caution and add half a stop of exposure time 🙂

    I have the FujiFilm GFX 50SII and three Fuji lenses for it. I have the 20-35mm, the 35-70mm and the 100-200mm. I also have adapters to use my Hasselblad V series lenses and Mamiya M645 lenses. I must admit I like the Mamiya lenses better than using the Hasselblad. They are just a bit easier to use on the GFX. I also have the Olympus PenF and my 12-40mm 2.8 Pro lens pretty much lives on it. It is my go to camera for grab shots and street photography.

    • @MeasuredLight
      @MeasuredLight 5 місяців тому

      Ooooh. I would love the 100-200! I would probably stop using adapted lenses if I had it! I use an Olympus OM 100mm, and Hasselblad V 150mm and 250mm for longer reach. I more or less only use the 17mm and 45mm F/1.8 lenses on the Pen. E-M1 MkII with 12-40mm F/2.8 pro is what I use every day for work though. The Pen-F is truly a lovely little camera!!

    Working with the 617 panorama format, requires an understanding of when the pano image works, however, that said, rules are made to be broken, I have had some amazing/unexpected results over the years, by breaking the rules, but always had beyond stunning landscape results by sticking the the F617 rules. Fuji provided a centre filter for the WA lens for good reason, it is necessary for even exposure on film, unfortunately a lot of the few cameras floating around, don't have them, due to owners/new users, who are clueless, however, a certain amount of adjustment can be had in post. One also needs to keep the camera clean, not in the dusty condition, the one in the clip is in. The main reason for this, is because dust is your enemy, when it comes to scanning. Your choice of film/filters is also very significant for the 617 format, especially if you want to do landscape photography/get the tonality/quality the camera is capable of. The Fuji centre filter acts as a handy underexposure control for positives (best film for the format, but requires more technical ability) of course you can adjust up a bit for negatives. Filter factors need to be checked, if you're shooting as fuji's engineers intended. Anybody contemplating working with this camera, needs a different working MO than used with DSLR, A slower, more methodical/contemplative approach, that is common in large format photography, is the ticket. I recommend ND grads by Lee or above but not Cokin, due to CC. Line up the filter/use BT to hold it in place. I use a Hasselblad flextight to scan 617, in truth the flextight/fuji 617 have become exclusive friends over the years. Good luck to anybody with the Fuji 617, if you learn how to get the best out of the camera, you will never part with it, that said, 80% of owners typically sell them/move on, because they are an expensive one trick pony, but what a trick it is! The Fuji 617 (all versions) is a very special camera for people with special vision/photographic skills.

    Beautiful captures man. Can't wait to see more captures and videos from the trip. That Lomo doesn't handle too badly!

    Gorgeous images, Nathan. I love the blend of blue, gold and white colours. It's many years since I've been to the snow, and I miss it very much. In the 80's I used to snow ski every year down south. Your video really captures the atmosphere of that environment. Love it.
