Intresting fact! E.C used to be a ring of six on an oak frame, and when augmented to eight in 1955, they were hung on whitechapel's first metal bell frame.
This recording was before the remembrance sunday service on the 9/11/14. The clappers (that strike the bell) are fitted with a leather muffle on one side, done on remembrance services, and funerals as a mark of respect. This is known as ringing "half muffled". If muffles were on both side of the clapper, (known as "fully muffled"), this would only be done to commemorate the death of an English sovereign.
