MV Noeta Episode 23: 980 Miles Non Stop Ensenada to La Cruz, Mexico - Part 1
@mvnoeta is finally on her last passage of this journey. We bought our Nordhavn 57 just 4 months ago in Homer, Alaska, did a ton of work on her, then brought her down the coast of the US. Now we're in Ensenada, taking off for our longest continuous passage yet. 5 days non-stop, 980 miles from Ensenada, Mexico to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico. This is Part 1 of a 2 part series.

Переглядів 3,1 тис.День тому
After months of planning and projects, we finally get to take our new-to-us 57 ft Nordhavn, Noeta, to Mexico. We've spent the past 6 years there on our other boat, but this is the first time we've entered at Ensenada. In this episode we share how we prep for the voyage and how the check in to the country went!
Glowing Dolphins!

We often have dolphins in our bow wake on @mvnoeta - but this was the first time we've experienced them in bioluminescence! This was just off the coast of California, just north of Los Angeles.
Episode 21: Cruising San Francisco, CA to Long Beach, CA

Gilligan the Boat Cat Visits the Vet

Even boat cats need to have their rabies shots and vaccines in order to visit other countries. In addition, Gilligan the Fat Boat Cat managed to get a couple fleas! Off to the vet in this short video so that we can leave for Mexico soon. #gilliganthefatboatcat #gatosdelmar #mvnoeta #cats #catvideos #catshorts #boatingwithcats #boating #boatlife
Episode 20: Mexico Import Paperwork Nightmare
Переглядів 6 тис.Місяць тому
Will we be able to get into Mexico?! We've been trying for months to deal with an old uncanceled import permit that this boat has from 2006. If we can't cancel it, we can't go to Mexico on the boat! People have told us it's nearly impossible, while agents have said it will be 8 months and maybe they can do it, and another character telling us how to claim our boat has been abandoned in Mexico, ...
New Helm Chairs Finally!
Переглядів 2 тис.Місяць тому
After a major delay in the arrival of our new Stidd chairs, they finally arrived! Much better than our makeshift director’s chairs we had to cruise the Washington-Oregon coast with! #nordhavnyachts #stidd #nordhavn #nordhavn57
Episode 19: Finally Cruising - PNW to San Francisco
Переглядів 6 тис.Місяць тому
@mvnoeta finally gets to cruise south! After months of projects and some delays, we make the big left turn and head towards Mexico. With no helm chairs and crappy seas, it was an interesting passage. But when we got there we were greeted by family and friends from Red Rover (N55)! In the video we mention our Nordhavn Film Festival grand prize winning film Nordipeda - Check it out here: ua-cam.c...
Episode 18: Final Projects Before Heading South
Переглядів 4,1 тис.Місяць тому
We finish up a few details before making our way back to Mexico. In today's episode we take on some fuel, add a system to secure the dinghy, try (and fail) to fix a door, and add some new blinds. Lots to do before we leave! #mvnoeta #nordhavn #boating #nordhavnyachts #nordhavn57
Episode 17: The Shaft Saga is Over
Переглядів 4,6 тис.Місяць тому
Over the past couple of months we have experienced issues with our propeller shaft being out of alignment. This episode is all about the saga of the shaft, with a special interview with James Knight of @yachttechinc1754 explaining how it all went down and how it was solved. #nordhavn #nordhavn57 #doctornordhavn #mvnoeta
Episode 16: Noeta is Floating...Briefly
Переглядів 3,3 тис.Місяць тому
In today's episode we explain why, after 31 days in the shipyard, and 3 days floating, we had to haul out of the water....again! And a few of the projects we were able to accomplish while floating. (And a special cameo by some UA-cam fans and one by Gilligan!) #doctornordhavn #nordhavn #mvnoeta @yachttechinc1754 @mvnoeta ...oops - Title image says Episode 15 - it's actually 16! :)

We share lots of boatyard projects in this episode! And we get some bad news about our new-to-us Nordhavn 57 :( We finish the bottom painting, put the boat back together and get ready to splash in this episode! But it doesn't end well. Check it out! @mvnoeta @yachttechinc1754 #doctornordhavn

I am new to the channel and I am and old salt. Super happy that you are on the way back down the line. What does Pat do for work? I am really enjoying watching from the point you sold N50 and bought N57. After I get caught up I will go back and watch everything else. Fair Winds and following seas.
Welcome aboard! Pat is an airline pilot, so he commutes out of wherever we are. It's a pretty great way to be able to live this life! Cheers!
@@mvnoeta I finished all the N57's and came back to episode one and have started watching which answered my questions. Working ep 3 as I write! Thank You!
@@dane_amsoilguy4962 Outstanding!!! Let us know if there are any questions that you still have :) Always happy to answer them!
Give us this day our episodal Gilligan.😊
🤣Definitely! I am committed to trying to get a cameo in each episode now! Stay tuned!
Curious what that marina charges a month there in Mexico?
They are all a little different, and becoming the same or more than the west coast of the US. We are at Marina Riviera Nayarit which is one of the priciest at $1.24 a foot/day. Paradise Village is .84 cents a foot/day. There are discounts for paying by the year and most marinas are cheaper in the summer, which is also hurricane season :)
@ ok wow !! I looked at prices and thought I was reading it wrong .. I guess not
@@rlpatton1970 I wish I were wrong! They've been slowly creeping up over the past years. And the demand is high, so most marinas are full.
@ well hopefully it’s nice
@@rlpatton1970 Most of them are nice - they all have pros and cons. I did a video comparing 2 of them a few months ago: ua-cam.com/video/cjSoGt9n_3U/v-deo.html
Speaking from a guy with a John Deere tear 2 the electronics and harness are total garbage
@@donaldsnow6618 we would agree!
how doing you like the soft chocks??
We really like them. We had them on a previous boat. They are really forgiving, so when we drop the dinghy in place, it just slides right into position. They also don’t bruise your toes when you accidentally kick them 😅
What has FBC (fat boat cat) been doing during the trip? Y’all be safe❤
He spent most of his time in the bathroom sink 😂
@ 😂😂
Question. do you have stabilizers?
We do, thank goodness! We have ABT stabilizers and they work amazingly well!
@@mvnoeta I have to take my 50ft Ocean Alexander from San Francisco to Ensenada. Loved the video. Do you know any skippers that I can hire to help me?
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for following along! 🙃
What distance offshore are you cruising ?
Most of the time just a few miles. But at one point we were about 50 miles off the Baja coast, since it cuts way in and we wanted to go straight. And then about 140 miles off when we were mid Sea of Cortez.
Perfect! 🥱 😆
Boring is good! 😂
Neat.. would be sooo much better without the music though.
Noted- thanks
Do you think the Dolphins are attracted by the Smiley face😊...can't hurt!
Definitely! 💯
Wow❤
😅lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Question: Why did you fill up in Long Beach instead of Ensenada? Isn't the diesel a little cheaper in Mexico?
Great question- we checked all the prices for Ensenada, San Diego and Long Beach. The Long Beach price was the best one since we were getting so much. The other issue with Ensenada was that if it’s not fuel delivery day, then they might not have enough for us. Ensenada was $5.09 gallon, San Diego was $5.16 and LB was $4.50. And honestly, our slip was 100 yards from the fuel dock in LB 😅- so it was just easy.
Yeah. Im just not going to believe that unless you move me onboard to witness it for myself 😂
😂😂😂
Wow, you cook fast. Interesting how you are anxious to get to Mexico (legally), and thousands are anxious to get into the US (illegally). Does Gilligan like Mexican cat food ? Well, as long as you are all having a good time, that is all that counts
Such fast cooking skills! 😂 I feel really privileged that there is a system in place for us to come into Mexico. And that we are not fleeing danger or poverty. (BTW - we’ve met lots of US and Canadian folks who haven’t done the paperwork and are in Mexico ‘illegally’). We are having a great time though and Gilligan will eat whatever we put in front of him 😂
Great episode! Thank you❤
Glad you’re enjoying them @BonnieVolkle !🙃
All the paperwork and yet millions cross our borders and no paperwork 😮
Happy to follow the paperwork process and that Mexico has a system for us. Even more grateful that we aren’t fleeing violence and poverty. We count ourselves very fortunate. 🙃
What RPM are you cruising the John Deere at?
We’ve been cruising at 1250 mostly. That’s the sweet spot for efficiency. Puts us around 8.7 knots.
Have fun, enjoyable episode. Needs more Gilligan.😉
Thanks! I will ask him- but he kinda does whatever he wants 😅
Congratulations are making it back to Mexico! 🇲🇽
Thanks! So happy to be here!
Figured u would of stopped in Dana Point on the way lol. At least you're way south of the bomb cyclone
We definitely wanted to make a stop at the Mother Ship, but the seas were just so nice, we opted to take advantage of that!
OK, I am finally caught up. I found your UA-cam videos at episode 21, and then backtracked to the beginning. So I am ready to continue on with your adventures.
Yay! Welcome aboard! We are about to turn the corner at Cabo San Lucas, so we are making great time!
Ah, Berkeley. My first yacht (Sea Scout Ship NORTHLAND, a 63ft AVR) was home ported there. Yes, I am a native of Berkeley. I joined the Sea Scouts at age 14, and have made the sea my life for 62 years.
That’s great! We had a great stay there!
OK, the video you showed in the morning in Crescent City had a Red Sky. There is an old nautical saying that goes,......." Red Sky in the Morning, Sailors Take Warning ", meaning that it is not going to be a nice day at sea. So I am not surprised that shortly after you left Crescent City, you encountered winds and rough seas.
Yup…we probably should have stayed put another day or 2!
Alamitos Bay.
Yep! It's been lovely here in the bay! Great marina :)
That is so cool!
So amazing in person! :)
I’m new to your posts. Saw you coming into Long Beach and parking on the same slip I had I was at for years. Ew traveled the west coast of Canada, US and Mexico. Had the same problem you had with the TIP except in reverse and had to go to Ensenada saw Fito and was able to cancel it with no problem. Wife got sick, sold boat and now will enjoy sailing with you vicariously. Have fun and be safe.
Hey hi!! We've had much the same journey!! You'll probably see many more places you've been to in upcoming videos. Hopefully we'll be in Ensenada in a week or so. Long Beach has been lovely!
Was enjoying the video, but you have to do something about your background "music". It is awful!
😂 Noted
Go Gilligan 😊
He says 'meow' :)
@@mvnoeta We love cats and have owned both a Ragdoll, Mr Cassius and a Birman Mr Smythers , soo much love from them, Gilligan makes me smile.xx☺
@@amandabortello505 Their names! :) Love them so much!
@mvnoeta 💗🙏
Cute - This was fun. Thx
Glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun making it!
I can get it for you. Pm me.
Thanks, I went down to Ensenada and got it taken care of. We're all legal now!
Your kitty was telling you where it wants to go.
Exactly! He's the real captain.
I’m so glad y’all are having a great cruise!
Thanks! Me too :)
8.7 knots ? Isn’t that about max speed on that boat ? Mileage?
8.7 knots is the most fuel efficient speed - running about 5 gallons per hour. She'll go 11 knots, but we'll have to pay for it :) When we had to slow down due to arrival time, we were going 7 knots, using just 3.2 gallons per hour.
@ wow as a trawler owner as well .. I always thought nordhavn were a littleSlower than. That
@@rlpatton1970 Most of them are a little slower. The 50, 57 and 62 are the speediest of the Nordhavn fleet. Our 46 liked 6.5 knots, our 50 was happy at 8 knots. But this one is a speedy little thing! :)
@@mvnoeta So, about 240 gallons burned? WOW!
On the video the dolphins look like, ghost like, very big squid. If this looks like that is real life, no wonder ancient boats men thought they where ghosts or monsters from the deep.
No kidding! It was mesmerizing. Hard to capture the beauty of it in video.
Why not the Pacific Northwest?
We cruised from Anacortes to San Francisco a few weeks ago...it was mostly miserable sea state. It was our 2nd time doing so in a similar state. Further south, the waters are typically much calmer. It was a treat! Here's our PNW passage: ua-cam.com/video/oJJqWQtDMcQ/v-deo.html
Cute cat.
Thanks - Gilligan the Fat Boat Cat is an integral member of the crew....he's the chief napigator.
Wow. Congrats. It sounds like you got lucky.
Thanks!! Got a great weather window for sure!
Can not alway predict the weather when out on the water you just have to accept the good with the bad otherwise just pointless in having a boat if it is always tied up in a marina and only take it out when the wether is flat calm
Exactly! Glad the weather prediction was right for this passage!
Left a day before you in a Marlow 70. Got into some heavy weather and needed to overnight in Newport. Rest of the way was buttery.
It's been beautiful the last couple days - happy to have missed the heavy weather. Happy Cruising!
If he wanders around the boat yard he will find fleas.
Yup- Vet said even fully indoor cats can get fleas. They come in on other people or items brought from outside.
Just so you know, Annies Mac and cheese with premade liquid cheese is our go to post or during overnight passage meals, with a cup of chili poured in the middle. Not always, but sometimes! It’s comfort food at its best! Needless to say I have 5 boxes stashed and should buy more before we leave!! 😂😂😂. Also, we don’t drink underway with one exception, we cracked a bottle of Champagne when we crossed under the bridge. Definitely a milestone as I’m a northern california girl from birth!! Welcome to California! I hope our paths meet on our way south!
That's awesome! We're headed your direction today! Leaving this evening, headed for Long Beach.
BRAVO and impressive. As I always say if you want it done right ask a woman. Never underestimate the power and drive of a woman. Your journey and tenacity was very informative. Thank you.
You got it! Thanks for the kind words.
I’m no expert machinist but facing a coupling on the end of a shaft three feet from the lathe’s headstock is not good practice. That shaft will deflect.
Maybe the video didn't show the angle very well in order to see the support. So this is a 3 inch shaft supported in the chuck and it was in the center of the shaft at the coupling end - We trust James Knight and the machinist who has been doing this 50 years. No deflecting here :)
That's awesome! BTW like your background artwork showing the first NOETA 46.
Thanks! Our middle kiddo is a graphic design artist and drew that whole series for us ❤
Well done Alexa! Very informative. ! Thank you!
You know the nightmare all too well! 😅
That’s awesome congrats!! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! 😁

We're so grateful this challenge is over :)
