What Wright seems to miss is that the Jewish view of working to MAINTAIN their standing as a member of God's people, is just as much a works salvation as any Mormon ever held.

Luther was simply wrong about Justification. One should simply study Augustine or Aquinas on this topic. Wayne simply doesn't engage with the historical understanding of Justification, but rather assumes his protestant view must be correct.

I think that there are issues of emphasis and not of interpretation. For example, the Gospel does proclaim the Lordship of Christ. Only God could save us. Hence it is also about salvation. But I could take this a bit differently and say that the Gospel affirms salvation by faith, which is only possible if Christ is Lord. How you state these truths seems as important as simply stating these truths. But whether you think one precedes the other is really a question of emphasis and not of truth.

I have read NTW extensively and have never seen or heard him make the claim that Grudem attributes to him. My suspicion is that Grudem (like Piper and others) have never read much of what Wright has written - only enough to see where he differs from their opinions. I would challenge anyone to provide a reference in any of Wright's books, papers, articles, etc. where he makes these claims in the way Grudem presents them. The issue with Grudem, Piper, etc. seems to be that they are unwilling to examine what the Scriptures truly say and are relying on "that's what we've always believed" without stopping to question the status quo. Wright is a world-renowned historian and theologian - perhaps the leading NT theologian of our time. I think Grudem, Piper, and the church at large would do well to put aside their preconceived notions, read what Wright has written, and seriously compare it with what the NT teaches.

I’d say his assessment is fair. The new perspective on Paul is not perfect, but it has brought to light many misconceptions that we evangelicals have about first century Judaism, which are essential to understanding Paul. His struggle was not about faith vs works in the Catholic/protestant sense (that’s a 16th century issue), but rather about Jesus being the Messiah who brings about salvation as prophesied for everyone, and faith in Him as the sign of what makes you part of the “people of God”. I think this is totally compatible with imputed righteousness.

When I finally realized that I no longer need to listen to men to reveal the truth of God's Word (John 16:13 & 1John 2:27) the Lord Jesus sent us His Holy Spirit to guide us, lead us show us the Truth. I can listen with humility a man preach a sermon, BUT the truth of his teaching is discerned by submitting to The Holy Spirit discernment. Ever since that revelation (ok, I'm a slow learner!) I've understood things I never could have if not for my submission to the Holy Spirit's guidance. Who needs mere men like NT, MacArthur, Washer, Hyper Piper, etc. These are mere men pontificating 'their interpretation' of scripture. Who needs them when living in you, is source of All truth, the Holy Spirit.

Very 1st perception of "free grace" about downplaying the need for repentance is just diabolically wrong and just gaslighting. We are turning to God which is repentance whereas before we had our backs to God and lived according to our passions. It continues to boggle my mind how reformed theologians make faith this ultra complicated thing we do in order to come to Christ. Especially since they believe that faith is the gift of God! Faith is not mathematical or intellectual calculation based upon the probability of something being true. I don't believe because the evidence suggests the probability of "x" being true. I trust and believe God the same way I trusted my Father to jump into His arms when I climbed to high and couldn't get down on my own. I trusted the words of my Father when He told me, I will catch you. The same when I trusted Christ for salvation. I knew I needed saving and I trusted Christ to save me because He promised to in the Scriptures! That was 38 years ago and He has never forsaken me! If someone claims to have trusted Christ and their life hasn't did a complete 180, it might be that they don't understand the importance of discipleship. To which they should be encouraged with the words of Paul, Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Why do we need to be urged to walk worthy if it's inherent to being born again? The clear commission of Christ was to Preach the Gospel and make disciples/followers of Christ. Believers are born again, Disciples are made through growth in knowledge and grace. Free grace does teach that our Position in Christ and our Practice of Good Works might not always line up. This is the 2 aspects that AW Pink called Union and Communion which is a great book!

This was the clearest explanation of why I must take NT WRIGHT with a grain of salt. For NT to consider the church has been in the dark since Augustine of Hippo and that the ‘new’ perspective have uncovered the true meaning of Paul’s explanation of the new covenant theology is indeed startling.

Ok. I think Wayne Grudem has produced the Systematic Theology for our time. Calvinists or partial Calvinists may like the older classics that are not as spiritually gifts-oriented. As a Baptist, I had a do-or-die call to the Saint Louis Vineyard in 1990. I wouldn't be here today if I had dragged my feet any more than I did. So, I love Grudem's connections to the Vineyard and then his great moorings in historic Protestant affirmations. I'm sure he can disagree with portions of my book Super Thunderbird. I might first sound like that I wouldn't agree with Dr. Grudem. But having worked through the sometimes hazy world of Systematic Theology, I think that this book is the basic and best starting point for those ready for Systematic Theology. His book can't do you hardly any wrong. I will sound like an unbeliever at some points now on creationism. This is going to sound widely speculative. But in the end, I think that it is more hard Bible in my estimation than our current Bible perspectives. Please see my book for a better description. God Preexisted at the core of all things, the 1st Core Sphere. Now comes Three Concentric Spheres. 2nd, He decided to create Angels and Adam-and-Eve Colaborers and to allow for freedom to choose Him at a future designated time. 3rd Sphere, God's new Abode. 4th, His Attending Angels. Adam and Eve existed in God's Preexistence thoughts, their Core Sphere in the Pre-Fall Perfection Realm. Now three more Spheres. 2nd, God created Them. 3rd, Their new Abode. 4th, Their Attending Angels. Adam-and-Eve's Four Concentric Spheres were 100% tied into God's Four Concentric Spheres. Then the "freedom" was initiated. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of Opposites (Knowledge of Opposites/Knowledge of Opposing Forces). This is God's foreknowledge of our perspectives as large-scale quantum beings in a quantum field in a Post-Fall Mimic. When Adam and Eve rebelled, they became the Core Sphere of "Fall Pronouncement" in a Post-Fall Mimic of Four Concentric Spheres. 2nd, the Angels Fall Pronouncement. 3rd, the Second Chance Arena for Adam and Eve now through the Knowledge of Opposites. 4th Sphere, the Fallen Angels in their permanent-and-eternal burning hades. There are three phases of Adam and Eve. First Adam and Eve, the Celestial Portals of our Post-Fall Mimic. Two productional and dimensional sheets clap and produce offspring by producing universes/multiverses with eventual habitable zones with possible Adam-and-Eve DNA Organisms. Second Adam and Eve, the first selected Adam and Eve for a Material Consubstantiation Untoward Redemption anointing on the meet-God's- criteria-for-Adam-and-Eve-DNA Organism Homo sapien. Third Adam and Eve, the biblical and historical Adam and Eve. Two differing accounts of the creation of Adam and Eve. The first is more equal, and I think They were created as Bi-une Beings in that They were Colaborers with God. The second account is out of Adam's Rib. The two sheets could have clapped at the rib area of the Celestial Adam to produce our current universe and our habitable zone. Evolution is an "entirely not-God entity." God has a TALL Order with our Second Chance Arena. This is Tabs, Authority, License, and Love. So all the syllables to words to sentences to paragraphs to pages to chapters and to books are MCUR discourse. God gives a Frequency from His Throne Room which gives godly credence to the right combinations and meanings of words for a swirl of Inerrancy, Infallible and Inspired Holy Writ useful for salvation attestation. All cognitive linguistics are faulty at post-foundationalism unless one adds this point of view. Dr. Grudem mentions that in the future there will be a seamless understanding of science and theology. Could I be on this path? superthunderbird.

Justification by faith - faith (gr. Pistis ) mean also loyalty In Greek mythology, Pistis (/ˈpɪstɪs/; Ancient Greek: Πίστις) was the personification of good faith, trust and reliability. In Christianity and in the New Testament, pistis is typically translated as "faith". The word is mentioned together with such other personifications as Elpis (Hope), sophrosyne (Prudence), and the Charites, who were all associated with honesty and harmony among people.[
