Raptor Education Foundation
Приєднався 2 вер 2017
Raptor Education Foundation videos illustrate and promote our work with raptors, their conservation and importance to ecosystems around the world. Sometimes we feature raptor videos or other wildlife to simply illustrate the sheer beauty and wonder of non-human life forms. We are the oldest and most comprehensive raptor sanctuary in Colorado with the largest collection of raptor videos in the state, and possibly in the country. We are the only raptor education organization endorsed by Roger Tory Peterson.
Wildcat Golden Eagles Are Back!
For those of you following the golden eagles at Wildcat Mountain in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, this past breeding season disappointed many of us when they abandoned their nesting activities. The pair then appeared to leave the immediate area of the nest and cliffs.
However, we've got some very good news to share...enjoy!

Falconry has been practiced for at least 4,000 years, and still captivates many people with its inherit mystery of working with some of the most iconic wild creatures on planet Earth. The reality of falconry, its origins and ancient practices along with current status is explained by Anne Price, author, biologist, Master Falconer and the President of Raptor Education Foundation. There is simply...

Buckley Buteo

If you drive south from 136th to 120th Avenues on Buckley Road during the summer months, you'll almost always see one or two Swainson's hawks. There are actually two pairs nesting within a half mile of each other this year. The northernmost nest is on the east side of Buckley Road in the trees adjacent to the road, but the foliage is so dense Peter hasn't been able to find the nest after five y...
Do Eagles Sneeze?
Переглядів 306Місяць тому
Our last update on the Broadmoor Golf Course nest located at the 11th T still had the solo youngster not quite ready to fledge. This video was filmed on July 25 with the juvenile bird already having left the nest for about two weeks. Madison Park residents report the youngster was perched in the evergreen above Bert's Red Apple food begging about ten days ago. While the big goofy "teenager" is ...

Back to the the first sighting of the female peregrine that led us to the discovery of the eyrie location! Alex Reshetniak noticed feathers floating down to street level from the top of the new federal courthouse. Looking up, he saw the peregrine plucking lunch. At the end of this video, as Peter panned over to the entrance of the federal courthouse, the female flew straight west up 19th Street...
Slow Birding at the Eleventh Hole
Переглядів 3002 місяці тому
For our Seattle members and friends, this video at the Broadmoor Golf Club's 11th hole eagle nest was filmed on May 13th when Mom eagle was brooding the small eaglet, and June 21st when the young eagle was standing. He or she still has a lot of gray, downy feathers and isn't close to fledging. The weather on May 13th was quite cool, while on the summer solstice it was hot as evidenced by the yo...
Commerce City Balds, July 3rd and 4th Visit
Переглядів 1272 місяці тому
The discovery and documentation of peregrine falcons nesting in downtown Denver has diverted Peter's documentation of a variety of nesting raptors in the Brighton/Commerce City/Denver area. This was especially true of the Commerce City bald eagles which he's been filming for years. This year he missed the moment when the single youngster fledged, however on July 3rd and 4th he found the eaglet ...

After a bit of a hiatus due to the prevalence of HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza), we finally opened our doors once again and enjoyed perfect weather for our Spring Open House on May 4th. The Force was with us, bringing a record attendance, perfect weather, and the chance for both old friends and new to meet our new birds, including our female golden eagle, black female gyrfalcon, femal...

Eagle Academy Visit
Переглядів 982 місяці тому
At the end May, we paid a visit to Eagle Academy in Lone Tree to deliver a special program about golden eagles. Instructor Susan Simpson had visited our booth the previous January at the International Sportsmen's Expo, and there she met our female bald eagle. Susan, working with high school students at Eagle Academy, wanted to do a student-lead fundraiser for a specific cause, and after convers...

For the second year in a row, we were honored to attend the Memorial Day Service at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery in Thornton, Colorado. In addition to a service, bagpipes, F-16 flyover, and a 21-gun salute to honor our fallen heroes, attendees were able to see America's national symbol, the bald eagle, up close during our special program. The opportunity for close-up photos and the fasc...
The Best Eagle Encounter

One of our most popular eagle encounters, especially during Independence Day festivities, features our female bald eagle. Anne Price, REF's President, is a history nerd, along with being an author and biologist, and she provides a fascinating look at the origin of America's living national symbol. Here, she's tag-teaming with Colorado's most articulate bald eagle at Eagle View Adult Center on J...

Peter shot all of this video except the close ups of REF's peregrine, on June 26 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. For those of you curious about the equipment Peter uses, all of the footage was shot with the same camera (Canon SX 60 HS), but the resolution differences result from the density of light on the subject. Those of you into physics need only remember that the matter composing everything you ...

Fresh video recorded in the early morning on June 23rd, along with some great stills by Jeff Wang shot earlier in the week, show the parents still hard at work bringing food back to the eyrie. One of the young falcons took a first flight, or perhaps slipped or was blown out last week (covered in Raptor Chronicles), and at least one fledgling is still on the hidden ledge. We also are guessing th...
Thank you so much. It’s lovely to start my day with this video.

From The Pure White Plumage, I Can Tell It’s Male
It kind of looks like the owl from Harry Potter 🦉
Nice description, right on the money. The photography is not bad either. 😎🎥👍
I live this! I'm in Denver and a birds of prey/raptor (slightly to extremely biased in favor of the Peregrine Falcon being the coolest animal on our planet) and I just now, today, found your amazing channel. If you're ever looking for someone to mentor, I'm right here lol!!
Pretty weird looking cat
so cool!!!!!!!!!
I’ve actually heard Bald Eagles sneeze on the many live streams of nest cams. They make a quick puff of air and a brief “choo” sound. So yeah, the sneezing is similar to us, but not quite the same!
Much new information that I did not know. I thought that once they left the nest it was a done deal. It makes perfect survival sense to go back to where food was regularly provided. And the eagle parent, needing for the juvenile to hunt on its own, has to provide what we human’s call “tough love”. Very enjoyable video, but the narration makes a big difference in understanding what has happened before to provide context to what the viewer is seeing.
Laura, thanks for the comments! Did you catch the sneeze?
@@RaptorEducationFoundation Yes, I think I did. It was towards the beginning of the video. I guess I was just more interested to find that juvenile had already left the nest and came back. I know not to compare their behavior to humans, however, I find the similarities interesting.
@@laurachapman1829 Sneeze was almost at the end of the video....
@@RaptorEducationFoundation My brother found it before I did. Now I recognize when it happened.
He is amazing. Such soulful eyes. Thank you for all you do for these angels
Anatomically perfect specimen.
A comment from my younger brother who has both a Bachelors degree in Biology and a Master’s in Geology, “Biggest ah-ha is the power of the lens to capture this documentary. Never would know this was happening. Very cool!"
Wow is this this year? Only saw one of the adults on the tree after a few visits this season. Glorious!
STUNNING!!!!!!!!! I had been looking for #7 and didn’t see it. A good friend had to notify me that it was there this evening. Preening in the wind and was a glorious view. The feathers are amazing. Powerful music fitting perfectly for the video. Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting these videos. They make my day! Back in 1989 and 1990, I had the fortunate opportunity to be a member of CDOW’s (now CPW) Peregrine Falcon Recovery Team, more affectionately known as “Jerry’s Kids”, named after Jerry Craig, one of the main people responsible for the recovery of the peregrine in Colorado. As part of the job, we surveyed known and potential nesting sites throughout the state, then banded the young. Some of us were then also assigned to hacking out 5 infant peregrines at different sites around the state. I was assigned to a site near Buena Vista, but had the opportunity to go to several other hack sites including LoDo. So, to see these birds brings things full circle. Currently work in LoDo and in the past I have spotted peregrines zipping by my 15th floor office window, but I have passed them off as passage birds mainly due to the time of years, but with this new info, you can bet that I will start taking walks with my binoculars and maybe even a spotting scope. You’ll know it's me because I will have a big smile on my face. Thanks again!
Ah ha!!! I was hoping for a chapter six. Lovely to see those falcons fly around my old office building at Denver Place. I used to work on the 33rd floor. Don’t know if that building still has that name but this video was delightful! Thanks, REF.
God can I have one male one female
Beautiful!
nice
It’s thrilling watching Nature adapting. Incredible footage. Thanks!
More outstanding video from Raptor Education Foundation. Informative description of “rousing” clearly demonstrated in this film!
I was proud to volunteer with REF back in the late 80s, albeit briefly. What a wonderful and important organization! I love this video!
Love this!
Krallenstutzen ist scheisse!
Fascinating. Are you able to tell us it's story?
apologies, I read it was an imprint along with its sibling. Thank you!
I have been following this nest for about three years and was thrilled this year to see what appeared to be parental feeding of nestlings about a month ago. I always take my Sony A6000 w/70-300 lens in an effort to capture any memories that I can. It was AMAZING to see this video captured by Raptor Education Foundation that SO exceeds what I can see through my eyes and my camera lens. This video makes it simple to recognize the larger female and also just how this pair interacts with one another. It was super fun to see the eaglet spreading its wings to see just how big it has grown and to also clearly see the pin feathers on the wings. Stunning video! Thank you!
Hi it me najayla
What a fabulous example of the heron repositioning the fish so he could swallow it! Great video!!!

I'm surprised the branch their on holds up and doesn't snap off, from all that weight. The nibbles were cute too!

WOW, beautiful close capture. Great raptors. Amazing.
Storks are not raptors, but they are birds of prey.

Oh dear God,so magnificant,TY!!!
Nice presentor, nice eagle, nice country
Lovely footage! Peter, can you send me a link so i can edit and post on our social, promoting REF at the expo?
Everyone enjoys a good bath!
It’s The “Pure White” Snowy Owl 😊❤
Is this bird used in falconry?
It is not a typical species for falconry, however there are individuals which have been trained for programs, demonstrations, etc. in South America . Injured and orphaned birds have also been successfully rehabilitated and released using falconry techniques.
Amazing!
ok nice i wish i had a dad 😔😔😔
It's so beautiful ❤️
