WEEK 16 | NYC MARATHON TRAINING | 2 WEEKS TO GO UNTIL NYC!
I'm not quite sure how we've ended up at week 16 already, but somehow, I've been marathon training for 4 months!!
This week we started off with some threshold repeats, added in some easy miles, marathon pace work, and a 12 mile long run on Sunday.
Overall feeling really good and ready to run! Now we just have to wait two weeks to get on a plane to NYC and try not to go crazy during this taper. Cheers to that!

Ever thought of building a shoe rotation for your marathon training block? Well, I'm no expert, but this round I did build a little shoe rotation for myself and I truly think it did help as I made my way through 18 weeks of training. Here's the shoes I used and what I used them for: New Balance 1080 v13: long runs, every day runs Asics Novablast 4: speed and hill workouts Brooks Hyperion Max 2:...

What a week! Started off by running 20 miles before work on Tuesday and ended with 12 miles at altitude in Colorado Springs. I also had some hot and steamy mid-week runs here in San Antonio that left me jumping in the pool to cool down because it is just still so hot here. Super excited to be heading into our taper weeks pretty soon here and feeling so good while running the most mileage of thi...

Follow along as my training takes a detour to Washington, DC this week! I had to fly to DC for a few days for work, and it was definitely interesting making sure I got all my runs in while I was there. After coming back I had a big weekend with a 16 mile and 4 mile run to round off the week. In exciting news, I tried out the shorts I think I'm going to wear for the marathon and they were a succ...

Week 1: New York City Marathon Training!
got the rebel v4 as my first NB shoe. this Jade color is just insane- love the pinky one too ( as a man lol) but the ones you got is suuuuch a smoooooooth color, im in love with em. the Rebel v4 feels soooo good im consider to buy the elites on a sale, when they get a sale lol. heard a lot aswell that the alphaflys are the best, but not for everyone
Definitely heard lots of good things about the rebel too, I'd be interested to try it for sure. And the cyber jade color is just soooo gooooood. I did love the NYC colorway that I originally had but I've had an eye on these teal ones since they dropped sneak peaks of them over a year ago!
good vid
thanks!
So exciting!
It really is!! Trying to keep my anxious nerves under control as we get closer!
I’m excited for you!🎉
Thank you!!
Team Novablast here too. I would also recommend Saucony shoes, especially the latest Triumphs which have it all: comfort, response, grip, beathability.
I'll definitely check them out the next time I'm in the market for new shoes!
The most cursory research would indicate AlphaFlys are not for 4:30-5:00 and are targeted at forefoot strikers
Yea I'm really glad that I was able to try them out, but seems like they just aren't the right ones for me!
Great selection and run down !
Thanks Matt!
Try Hoka!! Without socks. Many runners in my area wear these .
Good to know!
You will find out if you ever go to Sketchers or Hoka that you will skip the socks!!
Novablasts are underrated as fast shoes.I find myself running faster in them when I am trying to do easy miles. Great choices for your rotation. Hyperion Max V1 did not work for me size wise. I have heard great things about the V2. Good luck in your race in those Elites. They look great.
Yes! That's why I'm hesitant sometimes to wear them for easy runs because I also find myself going faster in them when I wear them. Highly recommend the Hyperion v2 - I think everyone I know who bought them has LOVED them. And thank you!! Very excited for race day!
Did you ever run without socks?
I always wear socks! I guess I'd be afraid of rubbing without them? And I think the sweat from my feet would probably break down the shoes faster? Just a guess though.
@@kiki_runs If you ever go with Sketchers or Hoka, the rules will change and you probably won’t wear them.
@@kiki_runs If you ever go with Sketchers or Hoka, you will find out that socks will not work!!!
1:25 can u return already used shoes in which you go outside??
It depends on where you bought them from, so I definitely recommend checking the company policy before you buy them. New Balance did allow me to return the NYC version of the SC Elite, and then when I bought the Nike Alphafly at the Nike Collective store they said they had a 60 day return policy and I could get my money back even if I wore them outside.
I will also be running in the SC Elite as well, great choice. See you at the marathon! I’m also starting at 11:30, blue wave 5.
Ahh amazing!!! pink wave 5!! If you see me say hi! And otherwise good luck in NYC!
You got this
Thank you!!!
Nice
Do you think the NB Elite support high arches? I have the SB2 for the marathon but I want the NB elite so bad. The last time I used a carbon plated shoe it caused me to get plantar fasciitis. So it scares me to get a plated shoe. What do you think?! 🤔
I'm definitely not a shoe expert, so I would say try to go to your local running store and get their opinion on what would work for you. One option may be to add an insert to help with arch support? I do put inserts in all of my shoes to help with some internal rotation. I always say go to those who are experts and get their opinion first!
🤜🤛 🔥🔥🏃♀️ 🌹🌹🏃♀️
The SC Elite v4 is probably the only carbon plated shoe that "work" at every pace. Another option, but less stable, is the Hoka Cielo X1.
At your pace you definitively don't nee carbon shoes because you will not be able to activate them in the way they are designed to work. Another important point is that your biomechanics will change on different/carbon shoes, this is why is important to wear them regularly so your body and muscle adapt to the new work. Shoes rotation are an important part of your training because will make you stronger and reduce the risk of injuries. If after running in a pair of shoes you feel pain and discomfort, don't blame the shoes but your body that is not strong enough or prepared for that small change in geometry, this only say that you should work more into the gym and on shoe rotation.
Hi! Thanks for your comment! I have a shoe rotation (actually will post about it later this week) and feel strong and confident with my strength routine. I think the alphaflys just weren't the right shoe for me, but very happy with the SC elite and excited to use them in NYC!
@@kiki_runs great! 💪
Wow this is your best video yet!!
You're the best!
I live in Houston so I feel you on the hot weather runs 😂 I make sure to go at like 6 am so it’s not sunny, hot and humid….its just hot and humid 🤣
Hahah right?! I always play the game of if it's worse to go before sunrise when it's more humid, or less humidity but add the sun... neither option is good!
Nice comparison of the shoes ! Let’s go KIKI RUNS!
you’re amazing!
Thank you so much!!
Omg i can't believe this doesn't have like 500,000 views. Can't believe you were so cheerful this whole time!
Hahhah sometimes I feel like if I just smile the whole way I'll trick my body into enjoying it!
i 1000% agree with you here... i have always been a Nike "fanboy" i absolutly love both the Vapor and AlphaFly shoes BUT i too am a 4.5/5HR marathoner and Nike just wasnt cutting it. I saw a review for the SC Elite v4 and thought let give them a try. So as a runner who carries a bit more weight (195-205lbs), I'm always searching for shoes that can handle the extra stress without sacrificing comfort or performance. The New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v4 (thats a moutful) has exceeded my expectations on both fronts. I was initially drawn to the shoe's reputation for a comfortable ride, and it definitely delivers. Even after 20+ miles, my feet feel fresh and ready to keep going. This is a huge improvement over other carbon-plated shoes I've tried, which often leave my feet aching after long runs. But comfort isn't the only thing these shoes have going for them. The FuelCell foam and carbon plate provide an incredible energy return that helps me maintain speed, even when fatigue sets in. Whether I'm tackling a marathon or an ultramarathon, I know I can count on these shoes to give me that extra "umph" when I need it most. I'm so impressed with the SuperComp Elite v4 that I've already purchased a second pair. If you're a heavier runner looking for a comfortable and high-performing shoe, I highly recommend giving these a try. You won't be disappointed.
That's awesome to hear! Yes I loved the v3 and feel so much more supported in the v4 than I did in the Alphafly. I've gotten probably 35 miles in them and they seem to be working so I'll be wearing them for the marathon!!
Funny stuff, however it puzzles me why runners focus on 'new and most current models' only, for race day. In looking at those medals in the background - you've got a lot of experience - and there must be some shoes with no uncertainties and are proven - for you, no? You must have a shoe in the past 3 years that's your jam? no? When you buy and wear a new model, you're the beta site, it's a complete roll of the dice - can go either way. The new / latest model is not necessarily an improvement of the shoe, it's about generating recurring sales, you know that. I'm thinking about racing in December and if I do - it will be in a pair of NB 880 v12 , a shoe that came out in Spring '22. I buy new old inventory of lots of different shoes and you can find pretty much anything that's come out in the last 3 years - generally at less than half of their original price. If a shoe is your jam, it's your jam and it does not matter if it's a 1, 2, or 3 year old model of that shoe. You know the NYC course is 10 minutes slower than flat marathons for non-elites (inclines and where they're placed, number of turns, different types of surfaces - it all adds up). Good luck!
Thank you!! And I did try to find the SC elite v3 in my size but ran out of luck (I searched and searched!). I think it may be worth my while to buy another pair of the v4 before they drop a new version so that I have some back up pairs instead of having to always go to the newest version!
!!!!!! SHUT UP WITH YOUR BAD SELLFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!! 20 MIILLESSSS!!!!!! Honey, you are INCREDIBLE!!! Oh my goodness, girl, you had *ME* in tears at the end!!!!!!!!!!! Congratu-freaking-lations, love!!!!! I’m clapping and cheering over here with tears in my eyes!!! 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Awww thank you so much!!! It was a wild morning but feels so good to have that behind me!
That was Incredible all before work
We're you emotional because it was such an accomplishment?
I think so! That's the longest solo run I've ever done, and all before work on a Tuesday. I'm also just generally emotional this week because it's the anniversary of my father-in-law's passing and I'm running the NYC marathon in his honor, so lot's of emotions!
Hello, i see you use currex insoles. Why you use-it ? and what do you think about currex insoles ?
Yes! I have been using the Medium ones on recommendation of the person who fits me for shoes and noticed quite a bit ago that I was rolling in a bit, crossing over, and scuffing the inside of my shoes. They've been helping a lot with that along withe me working on strengthening my hips!
Superblast 2 is also a great choice based on your pace/preference for stability
That shoe is definitely on my list of ones I'd like to try! I think once I retire my Novablast 4 I'll be getting a pair of the Superblast 2s! Also heard there will be some additional colors out later this year.
Hello! My wife is training for her first marathon and loves watching your weekly videos. She doesn't have a UA-cam account, so she asked me to ask you a question for her: What brand of sports bra are you planning on wearing for your marathon? Also, what type of running watch do you use? She's thinking about getting one, but there are a lot of options. Thank you!
Thanks so much! And tell her I say hi! I think I’m going to wear my Brooks 3 pocket bra for the marathon because it has some extra storage. It’s the bright green or hot pink one I wear often. But I’ve also found some great sports bras at target that are lot less expensive. And I have the coros pace 3 watch! I got it earlier this year and have absolutely loved it. Definitely a lot of options out there!
@@kiki_runs Hello!! My name is Beth and I’m the wife of the goofy named guy in the above comment! Haha 🥰 (I created my own UA-cam account so I’m now able to comment directly.)
