    Good video. Being "born of water and Spirit" mirrors the natural birth process. This is the comparison Jesus was trying to get Nicodemus to see. As far as "water" the physical baby is encased in embryonic fluid (water) prior to being born. Part of the birth is the water breaking and the child emerging out of the water. The spiritual equivalent is water baptism.

    Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 1Corinthians 10:1-2 Baptized unto Moses in the cloud(Spirit) and in the sea(water) Sea and cloud=water and Spirit. Hi BJ. You are absolutely correct that food can become addictive. Matthew 4:4 indicates that food is necessary to sustain life though - is gambling also necessary in this same way? If food is necessary but some people can develop an unhealthy relationship with it, both 1 Corinthians chapters 6 and 9 would seem relevant - we must manage our relationship with food (i.e. not be "mastered" by it as described in 1 Cor. 6:12) in order to avoid sin.

    Thank you for this, now that you explained this it makes perfect sense. I never struggled with playing a lot in the lottery but would once in a while and would pray about it and ask God if it's his will because I didn't know if it was right or wrong. I never gambled to get fancy things for myself but to open shelters for abused men and women and my husband wants to have one for men and women getting out of prison etc because before I met my husband now I was in an abusive relationship for many years and always prayed for God to change him but one day while in my car listening to preaching I heard him say we all have free will so I got a revelation that only God change him if he wanted it. Six months after my sister was killed in an accident I ended my relationship with him because I was so heartbroken that I missed out on my family because I was trying to do things to always please him and he isolated me from my family. My husband now before we met had a past of growing up in a family that did nothing good were high ranking members of a gang, all this led him down a path that got him in trouble and he didn't want this type of life so while incarcerated he spent a year in segregation spending time reading the bible and for a while when he got out he would go on Christian radio stations and talk about his past and would go and talk to the juvenile detention Centers but his past associations didn't like this and caused him to flee away, he was on probation and so now is in for a violation of probation for leaving. He gets discouraged sometimes because of the attacks he gets from his past but he's still not giving up on the dream of helping others. If you would ever think about it I would wander if you may think about making a little book about these scriptures as far as how the enemy can attack us by not understanding these. I want to point out a book to maybe help you understand where I am going with this called, "A Mind set free ", by Jimmy Evans and if you haven't heard of him he and Robert Morris have a lot of their services on UA-cam so you can find but in his book he talks about our thoughts and how if we don't stay in scripture and know them when we come up against an attack like Jesus did and Quoted scripture then we can be defeated because that is our weapon of Warfare. I would recommend looking into these please because I believe after listening to this that it would be a good book you could make and if I could ask that you look into ECS which is a place that sends out bible studies to incarcerated people to teach them God's words. Where does it say don't use instruments either. Eg. The Bible does not literally say Jesus says "I am God , worship me " exactly but he is, right? So even not mentioning something does not mean it should not be done, Spirit and in truth while using music or no music is still spirit and in truth, ur self defeating ur argument.

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist

      Hi Sang. As we argue in the video, there is no New Testament command to use instruments, nor do we see an example of it or any scenario where we would have to necessarily infer that they were used. To many, this is a conclusive lack of evidence that using instruments is acceptable to God. Can it be Scripturally proven that musical instruments are acceptable?

    Stack market is a gamble

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist
      @RiverRidgechurchofChrist 5 років тому

      The stock market certainly involves speculation about the future performance of a company, but owning stocks also includes owning a stake of the company (and often voting rights, etc). This is ultimately a matter of opinion, but many see this as an important distinction compared to gambling. Gambling, of course, doesn't confer ownership of anything but the rights to the wager itself. Certainly though, a person could be guilty of greed via their stock investments just like they would be via gambling. Daniel - Member, River Ridge church of Christ

      Hola Aron. We can agree that, if you are dealing with a non-Christian who appears to live a balanced life, this isn't the subject to start with (Matt. 23: 23). That said, I try to be very careful to not speak for God and let Him dictate what is important rather than attempting to push my values on Him (John 7:16-18). If everyone agrees that their relationship with God is of great importance, then it be easy to earnestly evaluate something as trivial as lottery tickets :)

    Do you really think God will let sinners off the hook those who commit murder etc? We all have to stand before God one day and give an account of what each person has done. v 2Co 5:10-11 For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men... v Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement... There is a second type of death in Scripture that is different from spiritual death and physical death. This is known as eternal death the second death. In the Book of Revelation we read. The one who has an ear, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death (Revelation 2:11). Unless spiritual death is reversed in this life, the result will be eternal death. This is unending separation between God and all who reject Him. Believers Not Affected Believers are not affected by the second death. Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years (Revelation 20:6). Lake Of Fire The final judgement, or the lake of fire, is the time when the second death occurs. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death (Revelation 20:14). The second death is reserved for unbelievers. Those who experience this death are all those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars - their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death (Revelation 21:8). Eternal Death Eternal death, or the second death, is the ultimate form of separation. If a person dies in a state of spiritual death, they enter eternity separated from God. This is the second death. Once a person has experienced the "second death" there is no hope for them, it is irreversible. Physical death is the separation of the body from the spirit. Spiritual death, the way all of us are born, is the spiritual separation of each of us from God. Eternal death, or the second death, is the eternal separation of a person from God. There is no escape from the second death because DEATH means DEATH!!

    Does Genesis 22:13-18 = John 8:56?

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist
      @RiverRidgechurchofChrist 5 років тому

      The verses are certainly related. As Hebrews 8:5 describes, many Old Testament events were described as "types" and "shadows" of things to come in Jesus' time. From this perspective, Abraham recognized how God recognized his faith and provide an acceptable sacrifice in his circumstances but was also faithful to bless the nations that would come through him (Gen. 12:3). If you are interested, we posted a written article exploring this a while back: www.riverridgechurch.org/resources/study-the-word-blog/2017/04/02/what-does-john-856-mean Daniel, member at River Ridge church of Christ

      Hi Butch. When you have time, read about the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31). Notice how when both die, one is described as being in torment and the other in comfort. In verse 26, Abraham explains that people cannot pass from one side to the other. Both states - torment and comfort - are found in Hades. The Bible indicates that Hades itself is an intermediate state between our earthly lives and our eternal spiritual ones. Notice how Acts 2:27 and 2:31 contrast Hades (temporary) with a permanent place in Heaven. We can conclude from this that when we are judged by Christ (2 Cor. 5:10), the judgment is final. Again, I'm sorry to hear this - it sounds very challenging. Romans 12:18 is worth remembering: "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." Notice that this instruction is not saying we must live at peace with everyone, just that we should strive for it to the degree that we can control/influence the situation. As Luke 16:15 states, God knows our hearts. You may not be able to control how your grandmother acts and she may not be fair with you, but God will only judge you for your actions. I hope this is of some comfort to you. Daniel - Member, River Ridge church of Christ

    Will you be judged on the sins you repented for, or just the ones you haven't.

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist
      @RiverRidgechurchofChrist 6 років тому

      Hi Gary - This is an important question. Clearly, 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 references that Christians will be judged. If I understand your question correctly, you are asking what sins a Christian will actually be accountable for. The Bible is clear that any sin a Christian repents of will be forgiven, meaning they are no longer spiritually accountable for it (Acts 3:19, Acts 26:20, 1 John 1:9, Hebrews 10, etc.) Thus, the only sins that will be held against a Christian (in the absolute, soul-defining way) are those that were not repented of. 1 John 5:16 references this concept and calls them "sins leading to death" - i.e. a person who physically dies while having unrepented sin is in spiritual danger, whereas the person who repents of all their sin before physical death is safe in Christ. Daniel - Member, River Ridge church of Christ

    we were not made to die. for by one man sin and death entered the world and by one man sin and death were conquered. since death did not enter the world until the fall the only way death enter the world was no access to the tree of life. God did not want man to be sinful and fallen and immortal so they were cast out. would eating the fruit once make them immortal? or continual consumption required?

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist
      @RiverRidgechurchofChrist 5 років тому

      Genesis 2:16-17 describes how Adam could eat of any fruit except the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. I'm not sure if we can answer your question definitively, but the verses seem to imply that continued consumption of the tree of life was required. Daniel - Member, River Ridge church of Christ

      Thanks for the comment, Dustin. Sorry for the late reply - a few people monitor this account, so the comments sometimes fall through the cracks. You are absolutely correct that KJV has several well-documented limitations. Arguably, any commonly available translation is "correct enough" to teach the reader the things necessary for salvation. That being said, I personally wouldn't recommend KJV to anyone asking for a good translation to study from. Daniel - Member, River Ridge church of Christ

    • @TheDustin49
      @TheDustin49 6 років тому

      So you wouldn't recommend the Standard KJV or 1611 KJV(with Apocrypha included between Testaments) Bible. Here's 3 reasons why you should: 1(The KJV Bible was translated over a period of 7 years by professional scholars[who had access to the Codex Vaticanus and Siniaticus manuscripts used for modern versions like the ESV, NIV, NASB, or NLT].) 2(King James I and ALL the authors of the original 1611 KJV were targeted for assassination by the Jesuits.) 3(The KJV has survived for over 400 years despite numerous attacks and criticisms.). It's lasted longer than most versions available today, and it's a miracle that it even exists to begin with. That's more than enough reason for me to recommend it. I would also recommend the LXX(Greek Septuagint), the Wycliffe Bible, Tyndale New Testament, Coverdale Bible, and the Matthews Bible. The only reason I'm not KJV only is because I'm not convinced that it's the only accurate version of the Bible.

    • @DjSostre7

      Dustin Granger your first reason isn't that strong of an argument. Your first reason ALL you said was professional scholars took seven years to make it. That's it. I think what happened is this, they have been called out so much against there faith - believe only mentality by folks who say the Bible says we have to repent also (verses believing only), that they just flat out deny it now. I have been working on a response video because it pricks my soul to see the comments of people falling for this; It is the fine sounding argements of not needing to obey God which i assume influences the acceptance of such a teaching. It seems that they are misunderstanding the biblical faith of assurance and conviction as defined in Hebrews 11with mental acknowledgement. Despite the 100 verses that emphasis our need for abedience and the clear verses that go against these thoughts. This sure gives a perspective what the Lord meant when he used the phrase "spiritual blindness" or when He said that Satan has blinded the eyes ... Im not quite through your lesson so i will go back and listen. Another thing that has been heavy on my mind is as I browse through Church of Christ lessons online, most have very little views compared to much of the denominational videos. I understand we are out numbered but it does not mean we cant encourage our brethren to share more and make an effort to get these great lessons out there. I want to encourage a large number of people to like and share videos with friends everywhere and encourage others to follow. my email is bibleauthority777@yahoo.com. name is Jim. Hi Jim - We appreciated your thoughts, but I must admit nothing surprises me anymore. Once you start rejecting parts of God’s word, then nothing is going to stop you from rejecting more and eventually all. My response to such people would be very direct. As Paul mentioned in, II Thes. 2:11, God will send a strong delusion so they would believe a lie. If people want to believe lies, our God will allow it (although He does not approve). There isn’t much you can teach people Biblically when they reject Biblical authority. Thus, quoting any of those 100’s of verses to them will fall on deaf ears. People will hear what they want (II Tim. 4:2-5). Your response would not be so much - look at these verses, rather, a need to respect what the Bible teaches (II Tim. 3:16; Col. 1:18; Matt. 28:18; Col. 3:17; I Pet. 4:11, etc.). Most everything that I teach comes back to authority - it has to, else it is from man and not God. Their main problem, as I see it, is the common misunderstanding of mercy and grace. Many religious people view these as things offered to us by the Lord unconditionally. They have been brainwashed to think that if there are conditions, then it can’t be mercy and grace. Man must obey from the heart that form of doctrine (Rom. 6:17). That doctrine is Christ’s (II Jn. 9). Until man accepts that fact that he must work out his own salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), they will go through life with a false hope. Jim I want you to be concerned over this, but first focus on Jim. Knowing that you see error in the life of others (and you really do), make sure you are right with God. First take care of self, then we can see clearly to help others (Matt. 7:1-7). Make sure you are a Christian and have become part of His spiritual family, the church He purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28; Acts 2:38,47; Eph. 1:22-23, etc.). Please keep in touch and if you need any more assistance, don’t hesitate to write here or via studytheword@wowway.com Chuck

    I don't feel being against interracial marriage or a gay marriage means you are superior at all. It's a personal choice. As a Christian if something seems unclean to "you" then indeed it is unclean to "you".

      Agreed that Christians need to honor their conscience per Romans 14 and 1 Cor. 8. Christians are also called to grow in accordance with God's will though. Just as it is wrong to ignore sin (1 Cor. 5:1-2) , it is also wrong to create law where God has not (Mark 7:6-7). An Christian might start out believing that interracial marriage is wrong, but there is no sound, scriptural basis for this. - Daniel, member, River Ridge church of Christ

    Awesome stuff! I really like how you quote the Bible often, it is very reassuring to the listeners. Also, your teachings are all very relatable.

    The second death is not an eternal punishment, it is the destruction of the living or ressurected bodies of those who have not followed the commandments and Jesus.

      "The second death is not an eternal punishment" ceasing to exist is not an eternal punishment? what is your defenition of an eternal punishment if ceasing to exist is not. Ezekiel 18:20 the soul that sins it shall die.

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist
      @RiverRidgechurchofChrist 6 років тому

      Death is used two way in scripture, physical and spiritual. Did Adam and Eve die the day they ate the fruit? God said they would and they did. Sin brings forth separation from God (Isa. 59:1-2; Rom. 6:23). It is appointed for men to die once then the judgment (Heb. 9:27) this is physical. Eternal punishment is not ceasing to exist - else there is no eternal punishment. But there is ongoing suffering (Matt. 25:30,,46). Just ceasing to exist is not a punishment. If it was, man has nothing to fear in sinning. So big deal, when I die that's it. That is not what the Bible teaches. Read Lk. 16:19-31).

      @@RiverRidgechurchofChrist What do people do in hell?

    • @RiverRidgechurchofChrist
      @RiverRidgechurchofChrist 5 років тому

      Ivan - The Bible offers some descriptions of Heaven and Hell but says relatively little about what people will specifically do in either place. Regarding Hell: Matthew 25:41 describes an "everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels" Verse 46 calls it an eternal punishment. Matthew 13:42 - "a furnace of fire...wailing and gnashing of teeth" 2 Thessalonians 1:9 - "They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and away from the glory of his might" John 5:28-29 describes the condition of the wicked by saying they will receive a "resurrection of condemnation" -Daniel, member at River Ridge church of Christ
