54 40 or fight !
Love the Gong. How about the sweaty sledge hammer Mark VII Productions from Jack Webb ?
"Nazi"
I'm glad Jim picked this, it was on my list for the entire time I was on the show, and this movie is about the futility of the resistance. Much like Army of Shadows it's a reflection on how impotent the maquis felt.
The Matador.
Great episode!, John, fight me!!!!!
Another mile of ruined celluloid ! You silly American armchair critical autiers ! I will taunt you a second time !
I don't think even Jon would say he makes movies. Going into his sports videos, expecting a traditional documentary, and judging them on those merits is just... a little stupid? It's not being shown in a theatre, it's a free UA-cam video made by sports blog nation for hell's sake lol. A lot of people adore his google earth graphics specifically because of the jagged edges and the amateur look. That's gonna turn some people off, but that's not the main appeal. These are writers first and foremost. I have friends who don't give a fuuuuuck about sports who have sat enraptured through his 3 hour history of the Seattle Mariners, and it sure as hell wasn't because of the visuals. The thesis of this video is a history and assessment of mma through a leftist lense. Like all things political, if you're politics don't align, you'll probably hate it.
I make farting noises in your general direction.
I'd like "The Key " as a WW2 sea flick. Ol' Burt as your 200th lead actor is good. Kudos to Y'aalll.
The penultimate show. What's for the 200th ? Bicentennial Man ? The 300 ? The 400 Blows ? Indy 500 ? 600 Dalmatians ? 700 days at Leningrad ? By the numbers !
what a waste of time these guys are, but the movie is something special. the fact most of these guys seemingly know nothing of Britain, movies or life....they are like a bunch of spoiled American brats.
It is a gorgeous film and I loved the first time I saw it. Later I read up on Thomas Moore, and lets just say his principals are great if you do not look too close. He had a tree that he used to flog heretics on, and then have them burned alive. The heretics were guilty of saying the gospel in English, not Latin.
Accents should be immaterial for this film, as at the period being depicted, the characters were all speaking French - and not the same dialects of French at that (none of them did more than barely set foot in England). O'Toole should have also received a Best Actor Oscar for this - but he wasn't even nom'd. As for the tone, this so reminded me of some family holiday gatherings from my own youth (with much less entertaining dialogue). Enjoyed the banter!
"Every family has its little problems" K Hepburn.
Just strolled over to the I-Max. 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice', get a score card for the 'Homage' moments, three gens of twisted sisters, no dull moments, Burton does it again, Joe Bob says check it out.
If you "can't get over the line readings of American films of the 1940s" why would you review them at all? Sit out. You have a block. If I did not like the sound of electric guitars, I would not review rock music. If I did not like gun fights, I would not review action films. What is the point of going in with a predetermined chauvinism.
Mona LIsa is also a great Hoskins film.
Solid film, with cool twists. Great performances and a smart story about what Thatcher-style capitalism will do to London.
I think this is one of the greatest American movies ever made.
Is "Precious" coming next ?
So many beeches in Sonoma !
'Tricia's Wedding' is another Devine fillum.
Way back then, 2 friends of mine were peaking on acid and saw this on a marquee . "Dustin Hoffman, he's funny" they said, and went in. They were bummed for a week after.
I thought this film is so overrated. However I was very surprised that my WWII combat veteran Dad liked. It. He was a M3A1 half track driver in an Armored Infantry Battalion in the ETO. Wish I had discussed this film more with my Dad. I do remember my Dad saying that the WWII GIs rarely used the F word lol. And he too said the way the dismounted armored infantry followed the tanks in combat was accurate.
Consensus is correct. I saw this in a theater when it first came out and was so disappointed. As a military history buff I thought its depiction of the Pacific War was so sanitary and ahistorical. And I couldn’t understand why it received so many Academy Award nominations.
One of the greatest film dramas ever.
Very underrated film.

Should have a pet........"About a Boy and His Dog".........
To recover from this .......I booked a U-Tube of "Cold Comfort Farm".......felt much betta.
I do enjoy analysis/discussions like this - and O Lucky Man is one of my favourite movies (which is what brought me here). But I found myself shouting at the screen. I do wish John Harden would just be quiet and allow the others to speak without interrupting all the time. You need to balance your sound feeds. Jim was too quiet and John was too loud. I stuck with it for ten minutes but then gave up. There were some interesting insights - I had never made a comparison between this and The Prisoner before but yes - I see what you mean. I may watch the rest later.
Harsh review. Michael Beach is the creepiest villain in any movie I’ve ever seen.
Destination shirt
Adult tease movie from the pedo favorite genre of 'Lord of the Flies'.
I have been remiss, an Allcladdamy Tyvek award to the maker of the lead-in titles. Some of the early ones tempted copyrite but were fab. The old Japanese ones and scratchy silent films were superb. One Kudu to you too.
George Miller saw this and viola, Mad Max four years later.

You guys ought to go there. I promise you a rewarding experience. I would recommend to spend as much time as the circumstances would permit. Not only would you confirm or correct any perception(s) you may have; the beauty of Algeria will blow your minds. It is the largest country in Africa and 10th in the world. I wouldn't miss one square inch of Algeria if I were you. And I thank you for taking the time to read my friendly message.
You should all wear Roller Ball tee shirts......GO Energy !
Interesting review! Surprising as this is a highly well regarded movie but some people who didn’t like it were likely expected something faster and more ‘thrilling’. For me, it is a breathtaking character piece. It looks of its time because it is of its time- it doesn’t necessarily need to age well to still be good or effective. The violence at the beginning is chilling because it’s realistic and human and it’s the character elements that separates it from other noirs in a sense. It doesn’t need to be bloody or exploitive. The brutality and sadism is more than enough to make its point- Carl Franklin speaks of the decisions to make the violence the way he did which is interesting. There are of course bits that aren’t perfect but overall it’s a great low budget little noir. Certainly Criterion think so! That said, good review and I look forward to check out more of the channel 😊
This movie and Hobo are with a Shotgun.
I've seen it in the 1975 at the Belknap Drive-In in Fort Worth Texas. LOVED IT.... I was 13.
It's no DEATH RACE 2000, but then again what is?
I noticed The Book Depot in Mill Valley and the Civic Center in San Rafael!
Run opening scene of 'Mondo Cane' with the dog being dragged off.
So many ex rebels played their real roles in fact, starting with YACEF SAADI. YS wrote the story while in jail but was rejected as such by the producer, who had to rewrite it based on YS story obviously! I wish I was part of this video!
Moudjahidine
A Marxist movie!! Are you serious ?
Just Algerian movie
